Congress and BRS share a protection bond: Bandi Sanjay Kumar
Accusing the BRS and Congress of shielding each other's 'corruption' and 'acts of deception', Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has alleged that the two parties are having a mutual understanding to defend each other from 'wrong-doings' as part of a 'protection bond.' He was speaking to mediapersons in Karimnagar after participating in Raksha Bandhan festivities on Saturday. Mr. Sanjay reiterated his demand for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the phone tapping during the previous BRS rule, saying the scope of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) currently probing the case is very limited. The phone tapping was done under the K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) government in violation of the regulations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority, he said, saying, 'This is entirely a matter under the jurisdiction of the Centre. The accused extorted hundreds of crores of rupees from political leaders, businessmen and film actors through phone tapping, he charged. Where did that money go? he asked, saying finding an answer to that is beyond the capacity of SIT officials. Responding to a query, he said, 'We do have trust in the SIT officials. But we have no trust in the Congress government. In cases like irregularities in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, power purchase agreements and the Formula E Race, and other scams surfaced during the previous BRS rule, the current Congress dispensation in the State is only delaying under the pretext of investigation without taking any action.' He further alleged that the phones of several politicians including the present Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy were also tapped by the previous BRS government. Can the SIT issue a notice to the Chief Minister and summon him for questioning? Mr Sanjay asked. It is imperative to hand over the phone tapping case to the central investigative agencies to complete the investigation quickly without delays, he insisted. Replying to a question, he said, 'The phones of the ministers, MLAs and MLCs were tapped. If BRS MLAs have any self-respect, they should leave that party.' 'BRS MLC Kalvakunta Kavitha should be served notices and questioned in the phone tapping case,' he said in reply to another query. On BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR)'s reported statement to issue a legal notice to him, Mr Sanjay said, 'I am ready to swear before God on phone tapping. Will KTR be ready to accept my challenge?'

Phones of Revanth, Kavitha were tapped too : Union Minister Bandi
HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Friday said that over 6,500 phones, including those of politicians like BRS legislators and ministers, barring those of the then chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, former minister KT Rama Rao and former Rajya Sabha member J Santhosh Kumar, were tapped during the previous regime. After deposing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating the phone-tapping case, Sanjay also claimed that phones of former minister T Harish Rao, and KCR's daughter Kavitha and her husband, too were tapped. Speaking to the media here, Sanjay said that he had submitted some information and confidential reports to the SIT. 'The BRS government, under the leadership of KCR, tapped my phones along with those of my family members, staff and party leaders,' he added. Stating that the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) was supposed to monitor the movement of Maoists, the MoS said: 'The SIB officials, instead, included my name in the list of Maoists and tapped my phones.' Sanjay further claimed: 'Not just my phones but those of the then TPCC president and the present Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy were also tapped. '

Congress to proceed with local body polls after August 15
HYDERABAD: Fresh off its three-day protest in New Delhi over enhanced reservations for Backward Classes (BCs), the ruling Congress has decided to go for the much-awaited local body elections in the state, insiders insist. Sources said the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) is likely to convene a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting on August 13 or 14 to review the party's protest in Delhi, counter-strategies of the BRS and BJP, and preparations for the polls to elect sarpanches, MPTCs and ZPTCs across the state. The meeting date is expected to be finalised on Monday or Tuesday. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, along with his Cabinet colleagues, MPs, MLCs and senior Congress leaders, staged protests in the national capital demanding that the Union government pass a bill sent by the Telangana Assembly and an Ordinance seeking to raise BC reservations to 42% as well as amend the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act to remove the 50% cap. The government is likely to notify local body polls after August 15 or 18. The State Election Commission has reportedly completed arrangements to conduct elections for MPTC and ZPTC positions. Existing reservation patterns are expected to continue, with district election officers (usually collectors) tasked with finalising reservations at the village and mandal levels. Although legislative attempts to mandate 42% BC reservations were not successful, Congress plans to implement this informally. The party also intends to challenge the BJP and BRS to adopt similar BC quotas while distributing tickets. BJP state president N Ramchander Rao has indicated that the party is open to allotting a large share of seats to BC candidates. BRS leaders have suggested, without formal confirmation, that they may field more BC candidates than the Congress.
