Justin Pugh retires from NFL as member of New York Giants
Former New York Giants offensive lineman Justin Pugh officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday and did so as a member of Big Blue. Pugh took the podium in East Rutherford following the team's third training camp practice and bid farewell to the game after 11 years. "Not many players get to go out on their terms, and after 11 years playing in the NFL, I am officially retiring from the league," Pugh told reporters. "I thought I was going to do another one, but just didn't have it in the tank. I started losing weight and started feeling good, and didn't want to do a 12th year. "But like every little boy, I always dreamed of playing in the NFL ... I definitely never planned on making a block so Eli (Manning) could throw the ball down the field. I never dreamed of being an offensive lineman. I don't think any little boys are out there right now being like, 'Let me pass set and block in the playoffs to make something happen.' "What I realized, offensive line was the position that was for me. I was built perfectly for it, and it's something that you don't choose. Everyone wants to be that star position, but it's something that really defined me as a man, as a father, and as a teammate." The Giants selected Pugh in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft and spent his first five years in blue. He signed with the Cardinals in 2018 and played seasons in Arizona before rejoining the Giants for his final season in 2023. Pugh played 132 games (131 starts) at both guard and tackle over his career, and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2023. Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley offers blunt assessment of his trade deadline status: 'It's 90 percent I go'
St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley can see the writing on the wall. While the Cardinals got out to an encouraging start, the team has cratered in July, and could look to sell off parts despite still being in the wild-card hunt. Despite the team sitting just 2.5 games out of the playoffs, Helsley expects to change franchises ahead of the July 31 trade deadline. When asked about his situation, Helsley gave a blunt, honest answer, saying it was "90 percent" likely he would be traded, per The Athletic. Still, contending teams want firepower, and relief pitching is always coveted this time of year. Helsley and the Cleveland Guardians' Emmanuel Clase look to be the top closers available, leaving Helsley counting down the days. 'I would say it's 90 percent I go, 10 percent I stay,' Helsley said. As The Athletic notes, it's common for relievers to be dealt around the trade deadline. Every contender could always use another bullpen arm, and strong relievers generally don't cost much, at least compared to a star starter or every-day player. Still, Helsley's estimation of the situation could come as a surprise considering the Cardinals are still very much in the playoff race. At 53-51 entering Friday, there's an argument the team could should parts and make a second-half push for the postseason. But St. Louis' recent play doesn't offer hope that's possible. The Cardinals have gone just 6-12 in July, and opened the second half by getting swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks and dropping a series against the Colorado Rockies. At a time where every team's performance is magnified by the front office, the Cardinals aren't showing much fight. Though Helsley has experienced some regression, he should draw plenty of value at the trade deadline. The fireballer has a 3.09 ERA over 35 innings, with a 25.5 percent strikeout rate and 20 saves. While those numbers are strong, they represent a slight decline for Helsley, who struck out nearly 30 percent of batters faced last year en route to a 2.04 ERA and 49 saves. That performance earned Helsley his second All-Star appearance and some down-ballot Cy Young votes. There exists a scenario where the Cardinals are able to trade Helsley and still remain in contention. Relievers are easier to replace than most players and trading for a major-league ready player at another position could give the Cardinals the boost they need to contend in the second half. Trading Helsley isn't necessarily a white flag for the Cardinals, though the fact that he feels so certain he's on his way out probably doesn't bode well for the team's 2025 chances.

Cardinals to wear NFL Rivalries jersey on TNF vs. Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks swept the Arizona Cardinals last season. The Seahawks defeated their NFC West rival 16-6 in Week 12, and embarrassed them again, 30-18 in Week 14. Naturally, the Cardinals need a change-up to motivate them this coming campaign. The Seahawks' first matchup with the Cardinals in 2025 is scheduled for Thursday Night Football (TNF) in Week 4 at State Farm Stadium in Arizona. The Cardinals just took to social media to announce they'll be wearing their NFL Rivalries uniform for that contest. The new-look uniform will be revealed on Aug. 28. Joining a first wave of teams from the AFC East and the NFC West, the Cardinals' special attire is expected to feature a nod to the team's origins and the region it represents. Together, Nike and the NFL, announced the Rivalries program on April 25, during the NFL draft weekend. The idea is to drive fan engagement by celebrating storied traditions and uniting communities with unique and elevated product designs, per the league itself. Specially designed Nike uniforms and fan gear will drive the Rivalries program over the next four seasons.
