Vaclav Cerny Rangers transfer return all but ruled out
Cerny's agent, David Nehoda, said: "Vaclav will be back in Wolfsburg in time for their start of training.

"The summer transfer market window does continue for a long time though, so everything remains possible."
Cerny started 30 league games for Rangers during the season and scored 12 goals in the Premiership. He also netted a further six goals in 12 games in European competition.

It was a good workout for those players who needed minutes on the park but now boss Russell Martin, still trying to grasp the high demands of being the Rangers boss since arriving in the summer, will have noted the poor goals conceded as he starts preparing to host Belgian side Club Brugge in the first leg of the Champions League play-off on Tuesday. Despite reaching the play-off with a 4-2 aggregate win over Viktoria Plzen, the 2-1 defeat in the second leg in the Czech Republic during the week brought another fresh wave of criticism for the former Southampton boss. As expected, he rang the changes with only defender Nasser Djiga retained from the trip to the Czech Republic. There was a debut for Mikey Moore, the 18-year-old attacker who received his international clearance on his loan move from Tottenham, and Fernandez, signed from Peterborough this summer. The home side, captained by Liam Kelly, took instant control. Moore had a couple of efforts beaten away by Alloa goalkeeper Liam McFarlane before he laid the ball off to Bajrami, who took a touch and curled the ball in off the crossbar from the edge of the box. The home side's lead was cancelled out in bizarre circumstances, which began when Djiga lost possession. Steven Buchanan skipped by left-back Bailey Rice, his angled-drive was blocked by Kelly straight to Luke Rankin whose shot was stopped by Rothwell – perhaps by his arm. However, when the ball got through to Kelly again, he thrashed it off the head of the prostrate Rothwell and the ball landed in the net, irking the home fans. Rothwell's next contribution was more positive, however, slinging in a free-kick from the right for Fernandez to head in from eight yards. McFarlane made good saves from Gers attacker Danilo, Djiga and Bajrami before club captain Tavernier came on to replace the injured Rice. The second half continued along the same lines with Rangers attacking and Alloa defending and McFarlane made further saves from Danilo and Tavernier. There was a VAR check when Alloa substitute Cameron O'Donnell stopped Oscar Cortes getting on to the loose ball when McFarlane parried another Bajrami drive. Referee Daniel McFarlane checked his pitchside monitor and pointed to the spot, with Tavernier driving in off a post. Thelo Aasgaard, the 23-year-old Norway midfielder signed from Luton, replaced Moore to make his Rangers debut, with Hamza Igamane and Connor also coming on for Rothwell and Danilo. Alloa injected some tension into the game when Taggart tapped in from a yard after David Devine headed an O'Donnell free-kick off the crossbar. But Findlay, on for Cortes, fired a low shot in off the far post to seal the win, but the Light Blues will be stress-tested to a greater degree by Club Brugge on Tuesday.

They only got out of jail with strikes from Nedim Bajrami, Emmanuel Fernandez, James Ravernier and young Finlay Curtis. An embarrassing first-half OG and tap-in from Scott Taggart couldn't see them escape criticism. Martin picked a much-changed line-up and was almost made to regret it as they limped through to the next round of the Premier Sports Cup. No harm to Liam Kelly, but the fact he was the Rangers captain pretty much says what kind of line-up Martin picked. The likes of Jack Butland, skipper James Tavernier, Lyall Cameron and Oliver Antman were all named as substitutes. While Cyriel Dessers and John Souttar and Djeidi Gassama missed out altogether as they were given the day off to shake off knocks before the big European clash with Brugge on Tuesday night. The Ibrox boss clearly saw this as an opportunity to give some minutes to the likes of Bajrami, Emmanuel Fernandez and young Bailey Rice. The lesser spotted Oscar Cortes also started. Remember him? Only time will tell whether these boys have what it takes to play any sort of significant role in the team in the season ahead. Getting young Mikey Moore into his line-up would have been something Martin would have been pleased about. At just 18, the kid has to be shown some patience after joining on loan from Spurs. But there were definitely signs in this debut performance that he's got some star quality. Martin just had to trust that he could rely on this makeshift team to get this job done without any real fuss. But the way it's been going, that was asking a lot. Andy Graham's League One side were never going to just roll over. They've had a terrific start to their season with four wins on the bounce against Bonnyrigg Rose, Montrose, Dundee and Airdrie to really earn the right to play at Ibrox. But it was utterly unthinkable that Rangers would somehow fail to progress to the last 16 of the competition. 5 Nedim Bajrami opening the scoring at Ibrox Credit: PA The fact they only had a 2-1 lead by half-time covered none of Martin's players in any glory whatsoever. But it was all credit to the Wasps. They went behind after 13 minutes when Bajrami smashed an unstoppable shot past goalkeeper Liam McFarlane which clipped the underside of the crossbar on its way in. It was a cracking hit from the Albanian. But instead of taking control of the game from that point on, Rangers failed to take the initiative. And incredibly the part-timers scored to make it 1-1 after 23 minutes. The goal was a calamity from a Rangers point of view. First Rice was completely out-stripped by Steven Buchanan as he first into the box. When he fired the ball towards goal it came off Kelly and into the path of Luke Rankin whose shot struck Joe Rothwell on the arm. There were loud shouts for a penalty. But before referee Daniel McFarlane reacted, Max Aarons booted the ball off Rothwell - who was lying on the ground - to score one of the most bizarre own goals you'll see. To say it was embarrassing would be an understatement. 5 Closer look at Rothwell's own goal Credit: Willie Vass The small, loyal band of Alloa fans went wild in the away section as they celebrated something they probably didn't think was possible. And yet, with this Rangers team, it seems like anything is. Rangers were soon back ahead, big centre-back Fernandez powering a header into the net just five minutes later. But it was still another first-half that was far from convincing. Martin was forced into his first change just seconds before the breaks when Rice slumped to the turf with an injury and Tavernier took over. You can only assume Martin had some harsh words for his team at the interval. As he seems to have had every week. But whatever he said, it didn't exactly bring a massive improvement. Danilo almost scored with a flicked effort but Rangers' play was still far too slow and laboured from middle to front. They needed a VAR decision to get a penalty after 67 minutes. It initially looked like Alloa sub Cammy O'Donnell had made a terrific block to stop Cortes from scoring. But ref Daniel McFarlane was encouraged to take another look on the monitor and when he did he decided it would be a spot kick. O'Donnell was even booked for the incident which seemed doubly harsh given he didn't know a thing about it. 5 Up stepped Tavernier to make it 3-1. Martin was then able to throw on Hamza Igamane and summer signing Thelo Aasgaard for the closing stages. There was another VAR check for a possible red card for Connor Barron for a crunching tackle on Kurtis Roberts but it was decided the booking from the ref was sufficient. Alloa could have been forgiven for throwing in the towel at that point. But incredibly they scored again after 79 minutes. David Devine smacked the crossbar with a header from a free-kick and the ball dropped for Taggart for an easy tap-in. It was another shocking goal for Rangers to concede. They restored their two-goal lead in stoppage time when sub Curtis fired past McFarlane and were applauded off the pitch. But vast improvement is needed on Tuesday.
