TF1 lands on Netflix

U.S. giant Netflix announced Wednesday a livestreaming and on-demand content agreement with French television group TF1, its first such deal with a major traditional broadcaster anywhere in the world, that would allow users to access the group's content without leaving the platform.
The service will launch in summer 2026, Netflix's co-chief executive Greg Peters told Agence France-Presse (AFP), while declining to name any of the financial or other details of the tie-up with TF1.
Netflix subscribers in France will get access to TF1's five TV channels and content from the group's own TF1+ streaming platform – all 'without ever having to leave the Netflix environment' on their smart TV or other device, the U.S. company said in a statement.
On offer will be sporting events, soap operas and reality shows such as the 'Survivor'-style 'Koh-Lanta.' TF1 and Netflix have for years collaborated on productions like 2019's historical drama 'Le Bazar de la Charite' .
But France's top private broadcaster – one of Europe's largest – has big ambitions for TF1+ to stand on its own two feet, making the more intimate tie-up with Netflix a surprise.The TF1 streaming platform aims to become the most popular free offering in France and the wider French-speaking world.'TF1+ is and will remain at the center of our strategy,' TF1 chief executive Rodolphe Belmer told AFP ahead of the announcement.
Belmer insisted that the deal did not risk 'cannibalization' of TF1+ and was 'truly complementary' in a media landscape of fragmenting audiences and growing on-demand viewing.

Qatar strengthens economic ties with France at Vision Golfe forum
Tribune News Network Doha Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry HE Dr. Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed participated in the 'Vision Golfe' forum held in Paris from 17 to 18 June 2025. The forum brought together ministers, senior officials, decision-makers and industry experts from the Gulf Cooperation Council states and the French Republic. The State of Qatar's participation reflects growing bilateral relations with France, and underscores the importance of constructive economic dialogue on regional and global issues of shared interest. In his remarks at the forum, the Minister of State stated that the forum represents a vital platform for reinforcing Gulf–French relations and expanding economic and trade cooperation, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, supply chains, global trade, and sustainable development. The Minister of State stressed that the State of Qatar stands as a key strategic partner within the framework of GCC–France cooperation, retaining strong bilateral ties with France focused on advancing mutual development and prosperity. He pointed to the notable growth in economic relations, stating that trade exchange between Qatar and France reached approximately QAR 11 billion over the past five years, with 574 French companies currently operating from Qatar— further bolstering the economic partnership. The Minister highlighted key indicators of Qatar's economic performance, reflecting rising global investor confidence. He reaffirmed Qatar's continued efforts to implement national strategies with a focus on furthering economic diversification and public-private partnerships. The Minister of State invited French companies to explore the wide range of investment opportunities available in Qatar, especially at national free zones, Qatar Financial Center (QFC), Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) and other platforms that offer attractive incentives and competitive advantages. He also reiterated Qatar's commitment to developing investment infrastructure and fostering high-impact, sustainable partnerships that benefit both nations. Dr. Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed concluded his speech by affirming the pivotal role played by the State of Qatar in enhancing the security and stability of the region through active diplomacy, regional and international partnerships, and ongoing efforts in supporting priority issues. On the sidelines of the forum, the Minister held bilateral meetings with French officials, including Laurent Saint-Martin, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and French Nationals Abroad. Discussions focused on enhancing economic and trade cooperation. EIB funds France-Spain power link
Agencies The European Investment Bank (EIB) on Monday announced 1.6 billion euros ($1.84 billion) of fresh funding for a major electricity interconnection between France and Spain, fulfilling demands by Madrid and Lisbon after the huge April blackout, which raised concerns over the state of power grids in Europe. Experts believe the severity of one of Europe's largest power outages, which paralysed the entire Iberian Peninsula on April 28, could have been mitigated with more interconnections between the neighboring countries. The EIB said it would provide loans to the Spanish and French grid operators, Red Electrica and RTE, for the Bay of Biscay project, which will almost double power exchange capacity from 2,800 to 5,000 megawatts (MW). The interconnection, already under construction and due to start in 2028, will stretch over 400 kilometers. On Monday, the first tranches of 1.2 billion euros were signed at EIB headquarters in Luxembourg in an event involving the bank's president Nadia Calvino, EU energy commissioner Dan Jorgensen and senior French and Spanish officials. The European Union has set an interconnection target for member states of at least 15% of installed electricity production capacity by 2030 to improve the bloc's energy security. The blackout exposed Spain and Portugal's relative lack of interconnections, with support from France and Morocco playing an important role in restoring power.
