Under-the-Radar New Restaurants to Check Out in Los Angeles, July 2025
is an editor of the Southern California/Southwest region, who covers the evolving landscape of LA's food scene. Brand new restaurants open every day across the Southland, usually without too much fanfare. This periodic compilation highlights some of the most notable and under-the-radar places that have sprouted up recently. From the San Fernando Valley to the South Bay, from the Westside to the San Gabriel Valley — let's dive right in. For the biggest restaurant openings in town, check out this companion list. Venice— Venice just gained a new hangout inspired by sun-drenched Italian summers. Venice Beach Club, a new restaurant from the team behind Dive Palm Springs and and Supperclub Hollywood, serves an approachable, easygoing menu with dishes like pizza, burgers, steak frites, and crudo. Wine, beer, cocktails, and zero-proof drinks are also available. 2 Rose Avenue, Venice, CA 90291. Koreatown— The One Jokbal, a new Korean restaurant specializing in pig trotters, opened in Koreatown in June. The restaurant specializes in three types of jokbal — spicy, barbecue, and garlic — available by themselves, or in combinations with rice balls and bossam. The restaurant also serves a handful of other dishes including tteokbokki, a spicy buckwheat noodle salad, and build-your-own rice balls. 338 S. Western Avenue, Suite A, Los Angeles, CA 90020. Canoga Park— Crane & Elephant, a new Japanese restaurant, landed in Canoga Park this summer, bringing a new destination for ramen, curry, and more to the San Fernando Valley. The menu comprises starters like gyoza and takoyaki, alongside tonkotsu ramen, beef curry, udon soup, and more. 22205 Sherman Way, Canoga Park, CA 91303. Studio City— The Windy City comes to Los Angeles at Pearl's Red Hots, a new hamburger and hot dog joint in Studio City that opened in June. Try the Klassic Kraut Dog with sauerkraut, mustard, and onion on a poppyseed bun, or the Pearl with chili, mustard, and onion. Pearl's also offers Italian beef sandwiches, smash burgers, and sides like onion rings. 4359 Tujunga Avenue, Studio City, CA 91604.

BTS Fills Every Space On One Billboard Chart
For years now, BTS has ranked as perhaps the most successful musical act of all time on one Billboard tally. The South Korean boy band has earned multiple records on the World Digital Song Sales chart, including the most No. 1s and well over 100 top 10 smashes. Thanks to a new live album from the newly-reformed group, BTS doesn't just return to the purchase-focused list — it dominates it in a way rarely seen on any Billboard roster. BTS Dominates the World Digital Song Sales Chart This week, BTS completely owns the World Digital Song Sales chart. The tally only features 10 spaces, and the septet fills all of them, not allowing any other name to appear. All 10 of the boy band's wins at the moment are brand new, as they all come from the group's newly-released album Permission to Dance On Stage (Live). A Record-Extending No. 1 Smash BTS earns a record-extending thirty-ninth No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales chart, as "Permission to Dance (Live)" launches in first place. The group's latest roundup of new wins includes live renditions of some of its most famous singles, such as "On," "Black Swan," "Fake Love," and "Life Goes On." In many instances, the studio versions of those cuts also performed incredibly well on the same tally, and now the live takes — which are counted separately from the first editions — are successes in their own right. More Than 100 Top 10 Bestsellers Throughout the years, BTS has pushed 158 tunes to the World Digital Song Sales chart. When the group first began appearing on the roster, it featured 25 spaces, though some time ago, Billboard shortened it to just 10. The troupe has scored 127 placements within the top 10, including all 10 new arrivals this time around. Permission to Dance On Stage (Live) also brings BTS to No. 1 on the related World Albums chart. The live set is also a top new title on both the Billboard 200 and Top Album Sales rankings as well.

Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails Swap Drummers; Original Iron Maiden Singer Paul Mario Day Dead at 69; Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White in Talks to Star in The Social Network Part II
Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails swap drummers, Ilan Rubin joins Foo Fighters as Josh Freese heads back to Nine Inch Nails. Foo Fighters have announced that Ilan Rubin will be joining them as their new drummer, while Josh Freese will return to Nine Inch Nails. Rubin had been a touring member of Nine Inch Nails since 2009 and holds the distinction of being the youngest inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 at age 32. Freese, who had been with Foo Fighters since 2023 following the death of Taylor Hawkins, will be rejoining Nine Inch Nails, a band he previously played with from 2005 to 2008. Paul Mario Day, original Iron Maiden singer, dies at 69. It was announced that the vocalist for the British heavy metal band passed away yesterday. While an official cause of death has not been revealed, Day had reportedly been battling cancer in recent years. Day was with Iron Maiden from December 1975 to October 1976 and sang at their first concert in May of the same year. After his departure, he went on to front several other bands, including More, Wildfire, and a reformed version of Sweet. Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White are top contenders to star in The Social Network Part II with Aaron Sorkin set to write and direct. There's a strong possibility that Oscar holder, Mikey Madison and Emmy and Golden Globe winner, Jeremy Allen White will star in the upcoming follow-up to the 2010 film The Social Network . Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the original screenplay, is set to write and direct this new film. Reports indicate that Madison and White are his top choices for the lead roles, though no formal offers have been made yet as the film is still in development. The follow-up film will not be a direct sequel, but rather a new chapter focusing on the more recent (and negative) impact of the social media platform, drawing inspiration from The Wall Street Journal's investigative series, The Facebook Files . Today's holidays: National Avocado Day, National Chili Dog Day, National Mutt Day, National Raspberry Cake Day, National Intern Day, National Cotton Candy Day, National SPAM Day. In today's birthday news: Actor Michael Biehn turns 69, R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry 67, entrepreneur Mark Cuban 67, actor Wesley Snipes 63, musician/DJ Fatboy Slim 62, author J.K. Rowling 60, country singer Zac Brown 47, actor B.J. Novak 46, actor Rico Rodriguez 27. Solve the daily Crossword
