Just as with its automobiles, Mercedes-Benz Places in Miami is defined by a commitment to luxury, timeless design and cutting-edge technology. The project's architectural elegance is a collaboration of renowned firms; Field Operations sculpted the lush green spaces, serene gardens and meticulously designed landscapes, while SHoP Architects crafted the bold, cuboid structure that houses the residences, multi-use playgrounds and basketball courts. The interiors, which shine for its sophistication and mid-century modern design, have been penned by Woods Bagot Studio.
Perhaps the most sought-after amenity in this development is the exclusive Silver Arrow Lounge, the resident-only rooftop retreat that features a 52-foot swimming pool and sun deck. Inspired by the legendary 'Silver Arrows' racing cars, this private sanctuary exudes the same spirit of performance, elegance and innovation that defines the Mercedes-Benz legacy. Naturally, convenience is paramount — ample parking, complete with EV charging stations, as well as dedicated bicycle and scooter storage, ensures effortless mobility. In true luxury fashion, residents will also enjoy the exclusivity of valet parking and a fleet of house cars, elevating everyday living to a level befitting the Mercedes-Benz legacy.
With the launch of sales for the second tower, Mercedes-Benz Places has unveiled a sales gallery, offering prospective residents an immersive preview of the project's interior designs. Trump could scrap Aukus deal
The United States is considering ending a nuclear submarine pact with the UK and Australia, in what would be a major blow to a security alliance between the countries. The Pentagon launched a review of the 2021 Aukus submarine deal to decide if the US should cancel the project, US defence officials said. The assessment is being led by Elbridge Colby, a defence department official and former Trump campaign aide, who has raised questions about Aukus. The deal includes a commitment from the US to supply Australia with at least eight nuclear-propelled submarines. But some inside the Trump administration argue it comes at the expense of America's own domestic production of submarine defence. Aukus submarines will feature a Rolls-Royce pressurised water reactor built in the UK, with the UK providing naval training to support the programme. The deal froze France out of a major defence contract with Australia. It comes after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday insisted the US would supply Australia with a fleet of nuclear-powered submarines, amid growing concern that production is not rolling out quickly enough. Under the Aukus deal signed to great fanfare in 2021, Washington, London and Canberra are cooperating on the joint development of cyber warfare tools, artificial intelligence and hypersonic missiles. The agreement commits the United States to building cutting-edge submarines for Australia, an investment with an estimated cost of up to $235 billion over 30 years. Australia plans to acquire at least three Virginia-class submarines from the United States within the next 15 years, eventually manufacturing its own nuclear-powered subs. The US Navy has 24 Virginia-class vessels, which can carry cruise missiles, but American shipyards are struggling to meet production targets set at two new boats each year. Critics have questioned why the United States would sell nuclear-powered submarines to Australia without stocking its own military first. In a post on X last year, Mr Colby wrote that he was 'skeptical' of the agreement. 'In principle [Aukus is] a great idea. But I've been very skeptical in practice. I remain skeptical – agnostic as I put it to [The Sydney Morning Herald] – but more inclined based on new information I've gleaned,' he wrote. 'It would be crazy to have fewer [attack submarines] in the right place and time,' he said. China has strongly pushed back against the Aukus deal. Mao Ning, the spokesperson of the Chinese foreign ministry, in 2023 said that Aukus was 'about fuelling military confrontation through military collaboration'.Ms Mao said: 'It is apparently driven by Cold War thinking. It creates additional nuclear proliferation risks, exacerbates arms race in the Asia-Pacific and hurts regional peace and stability. 'China is deeply concerned and firmly opposed to it.' The biggest threat to China is the pact's order to supply Australia with at least eight nuclear-propelled submarines, which travel and remain undetected for much longer than the traditional diesel-powered vessels. The highly-advanced nuclear fleet would enable a better understanding of China's existing sea-based nuclear weapons. A US Defense Official said: 'The Department is reviewing AUKUS as part of ensuring that this initiative of the previous Administration is aligned with the President's America First agenda. 'As Secretary Hegseth has made clear, this means ensuring the highest readiness of our service members, that allies step up fully to do their part for collective defense, and that the defense industrial base is meeting our needs. The Newest Nürburgring Lap Record Belongs to China
While the U.S. has pretty much banned Chinese-made cars by tariffing the value out of them, Chinese brands continue to prove they are a force to reckon with, now and if they ever come to our shores. The latest proof of that has just been set by the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, an all-electric sedan that just reset the lap record for electric sedans at the Nürburgring. It's a record that was once set by Germany's own Porsche in 2004. This isn't the first time the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has set a record lap at the track known as 'the Green Hell.' In October of 2024, the stripped-down prototype went out and shattered the record for four-door vehicles by setting a 6:46.874 lap time. Of course, it wasn't a full production vehicle, but it still set that impressive lap on a partially wet track and even lost power for around 12 seconds during the run. Xiaomi did declare, however, that it would return to the Nürburgring with a production version of the SU7 Ultra and reset the production electric sedan record. April 1st would mark the day that Xiaomi would do it, but it would need to beat the official record of 7 minutes, 7.55 seconds—a record recently set by the 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package. The SU7 Ultra would also utilize track ready parts just as the Porsche did with a set of Bilstein Evo T1 coilovers, Endless high-performance brake pads for its carbon ceramic brake system, upgraded motor and battery cooling system, and high-performance tires. With Vincent Radermecker—former World Touring Car and British Touring Car driver—behind the wheel, the 1,527-hp triple-motor sedan crossed the line in 7:04.957 and stole the production EV sedan record. To put this time in further perspective, the SU7 Ultra starts at $73,724 (when converting from 529,900 Chinese Yuan, at the time of writing) and set a time faster than the Rimac Nevera. The Nevera is an all-electric hypercar that starts at $2.2 million with four motors outputting 1,888 hp and it was beat by 0.341of a second (a time of 7:05.298 for its official production car record) by a sedan that can have a fridge equipped inside the center console (there is no word if the record setter was chilling some drinks during the run). The SU7 Ultra also hit a top speed of 214.994 mph racing down the Döttinger Höhe straight. It's safe to say that Xiaomi has helped put the world on further notice that the Chinese OEMs are not slacking around—and why Ford's Jim Farley loves his Xiaomi.

Watch Xiaomi Set Production EV Record at The Nurburgring
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, primarily known for its smartphones, is branching out by making cars. The SU7 is the company's inaugural model and has already spawned a high-performance Ultra version. Last October, a prototype lapped the Nürburgring in an astonishing 6 minutes and 46.8 seconds . At that point, Xiaomi promised it would return to the Green Hell and repeat the hot lap with a production-ready car. Predictably, the SU7 Ultra that customers can purchase in China was unable to match the performance of the stripped-down prototype. Nevertheless, a lap time of 7 minutes and 4.95 seconds is a remarkable achievement. It makes Xiaomi's electric super sedan faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which lapped the challenging German track in 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds . The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is also a tad faster than the Rimac Nevera, effectively dethroning the Croatian electric hypercar from the production EV leaderboard. The exotic two-door EV completed the lap in 7 minutes and 5.29 seconds . To clarify, all times mentioned refer to the longer configuration of the Nürburgring, which spans 12.9 miles (20.8 kilometers). The Mercedes-AMG One's record for the fastest production vehicle isn't in any danger for now. The F1-engined hypercar completed the lap in 6 minutes and 29 seconds last year. As for the outright record, it belongs to the track-only Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, with a blistering lap time of 5 minutes and 19.55 seconds. It's hard to imagine a street-legal car will ever get close to that. Onboard footage shared by Xiaomi shows the SU7 Ultra reaching a GPS-verified speed of 215 mph (346 km/h). That makes the SU7 Ultra the fastest production sedan ever, whether gas or electric. The title previously belonged to the Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima , with a top speed of 208 mph (334 km/h). The defunct Italian luxury sedan was only 1 mph faster than the Bentley Flying Spur W-12 and 2 mph faster than the Lucid Air Sapphire. It's worth noting that the SU7 Ultra that tackled the Nürburgring wasn't completely standard. Xiaomi fitted the optional track package available to customers, so it doesn't disqualify the car from being considered a production model. As a refresher, the tri-motor EV has a combined output of 1,527 hp and can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 1.98 seconds. At 201.3 inches long, it's bigger than a Taycan and even heavier, at 5,203 pounds (2,360 kilograms). It went on sale in China at the end of February with a base price of just 529,900 yuan (nearly $74,000).
