'I will never allow this (divert water from J&K to other states). Let's use our water for ourselves first,' Omar said when asked about the Centre's proposal for a 113-km canal to redirect surplus waters from Indus, Jhelum and Chenab to Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Speaking on the sidelines of an outreach office's inauguration in Jammu on Friday, Omar made it clear that he would not allow any proposal to build a canal and divert surplus water to other states. 'I am not going to give approval. Let us be allowed to use our water first, then we will talk about others,' the J&K chief minister said.
Among the three states mentioned in the water-sharing plan, the CM specifically questioned Punjab's inclusion.

'Where was she when she had the opportunity to raise this issue?' Omar asked. The allusion was to Mehbooba's term as chief minister in coalition with BJP from 2016 to 2018.
Omar pointed out that a cabinet sub-committee set up by his government had submitted its report on reservations and the law department was examining it.
Asked if his govt would move Supreme Court to have J&K's statehood restored, Omar expressed hope that PM Narendra Modi and the Centre would stand by their commitment on such a move. 'Will see whether we have to go legally or not for statehood but till then, we are waiting for the Prime Minister and home minister (Shah) as they have assured that statehood will be restored,' the CM said.

Azamgarh/Gorakhpur: Accusing the previous govts of turning Azamgarh into a "terror hub", Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that BJP's double engine govt brought major development to the district giving it a new identity and making it the fortress of "indomitable courage" under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Drawing a comparison between UP before 2017 and after, the CM spoke about the recent recruitments of 60,244 police personnel, and said that for the first time, youth from every caste and religion, including 12,045 girls, were selected for govt jobs without any recommendations or bribes. Alipur village in Karnataka awaits return of residents from strife-torn Iran
Bengaluru: Amid raging Iran-Israel hostilities, fear and anxiety have gripped the tiny hamlet of Alipur — located 70 km from Bengaluru — with 105 villagers from there currently stranded in Iran. Alipur in Gauribidanur taluk of Chikkaballapur district is one of the few Muslim-majority villages in the state — constituting 90% of the population, with Shias make up 99% of the community. Linked by spiritual, religious, socio-cultural, and educational bonds, Alipur has fostered a close relationship with Iran for decades, and several services had been initiated in the village in collaboration with the Iranian govt. Iran's current supreme leader Ali Khamenei's visit to Alipur in 1981-82 to inaugurate a hospital built in collaboration with the Iran govt marks the high point in the village's ties with the West Asian country. According to the villagers, while a few of the youngsters from Alipur are studying medicine at Tehran University, the majority are enrolled at the prestigious Shia seminaries and Islamic research institutes to become Islamic clerics. Besides, some have also gone on an annual pilgrimage to the holy city Mashhad — the second most populous city in Iran. "The families back home were anxious, as panic gripped the village ever since tensions rose between Iran and Israel. There are about 105 citizens from Alipur who are currently stranded at various locations across Iran," said Shafeeq Abidi, a resident. "Currently, around 15 students are pursuing medicine (MBBS) in Tehran. Around 30 citizens have gone on a pilgrimage, and more than 50 youngsters are undergoing religious training. A few others have also gone on business trips, as the village is also a hub for gems and jewellery trade," he added. Officials from the state revenue department and Chikkaballapur police visited Alipur two days ago to collect details of the citizens who are currently in Iran. This was in keeping with the directive of the Ministry of External Affairs to bring them back home as part of Operation Sindhu, launched by the Union govt. "Until a few days ago, the families of those stranded in Iran were terrified. However, over the past two days, the families were unable to contact their loved ones. Thankfully, all of them have been moved to safe locations and are in touch with Indian embassy officials. The govt of Iran is also cooperating by providing shelter, food, and transit options," Abidi explained. "The state govt has been coordinating with the MEA for the safe return of our villagers. They will be airlifted from Iran and are expected to reach Karnataka by Sunday or Monday," Abidi added.

Delhi govt directs strict enforcement of sewage and effluent treatment norms
New Delhi: Delhi govt instructed the DPCC to enforce strict compliance with the mandatory installation and functioning of Sewage and Effluent Treatment Plants across all relevant premises. They are to conduct time-bound inspections to verify installation and operational efficiency, ensuring treated effluents meet prescribed standards. An E-Dashboard will also be developed for real-time monitoring, with bi-monthly reports submitted. PWD minister Parvesh Verma issued strict orders for immediate action against the illegal discharge of untreated sewage and industrial waste across industrial and commercial establishments and all relevant establishments in the capital. Terming water pollution a serious threat to both public health and ecological sustainability, the minister directed all relevant departments to launch an intensive inspection and enforcement campaign, ensuring 100% compliance with existing environmental norms. "This is a crisis that can no longer be ignored. Delhi cannot afford to let untreated sewage flow into its lifelines. No polluter will be spared. Inspections must ensure proper installation and fully functional operations. Strict legal action will be taken against any establishment found violating prescribed norms. Penalties will be enforced under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, with no exemptions or delays. All departments must submit bi-monthly compliance reports to the minister's office for review and accountability. This is the real legacy of the Kejriwal govt. 70% PWD drains desilted till now, so instead of lecturing us, AAP leaders should answer what exactly they did when they were in power," he said. "Why were Delhi's drains not cleaned properly year after year? Why was there no long-term planning for flood management? Why were crores allocated to agencies like DJB and I&FC, but the city still drowns after every rainfall? CM Rekha Gupta is actively working, reviewing projects, visiting sites and holding officials accountable," he said. Hitting back, AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj said with MCD, Delhi govt, NDMC, and DDA all under BJP's control, it has no excuse to pass the buck. Every drain in Delhi falls under BJP-ruled agencies. "BJP is exposed as Delhi reels under waterlogging every time it rains. Rekha Gupta and LG must answer for apathy, corruption, and negligence," he said. Any desilting exercise which didn't happen on the ground in the last 2 years amounts to corruption, which LG refused to investigate despite it being flagged by then UD Minister, he said.
