Minister Kollu hits back at YSRCP for its divisive tactics
Speaking to media personnel at the TDP national office in Mangalagiri on Sunday, Kollu lambasted the YSRCP for resorting to divisive tactics to create unrest and obstruct the State's progress. He warned that the public is aware of YSRCP's tactics and predicted the party's political decline, stating, 'From 151, to 11, YSRCP's downfall is evident, and soon it will vanish from Andhra's political landscape.' Regarding the recent incident involving Krishna district ZP chairperson Uppala Harika, Ravindra clarified that her vehicle was released by police, but she returned and verbally abused TDP leaders and law enforcement, provoking a reaction from locals.
He accused YSRCP of attempting to falsely pin the blame on the TDP leadership to tarnish their image. 'YSRCP's efforts to create chaos and attribute it to TDP have failed,' Kollu asserted, alleging that Jagan's leadership is fostering lawlessness across Andhra Pradesh. Kollu claimed that during its five-year rule, the YSRCP regime 'ruined' the State, creating an environment of fear that deterred investors.

Chhattisgarh government to launch Gaudham Yojana for stray cattle protection
The Chhattisgarh government will soon launch a new cattle protection scheme, the Gaudham Yojana, with a 'special focus on curbing illegal trafficking and ensuring safety of stray cattle'. It will shelter cows seized by police during anti-smuggling operations, a government statement said. 'The Livestock Development Department has designed this scheme keeping in mind the safety of cattle seized during illegal transportation or smuggling, as well as stray cattle. The State already has a ban on illegal trafficking and transportation of animals. Large numbers of cattle are seized by police during anti-smuggling operations along inter-State borders. The scheme is being launched to ensure a safe shelter for such cattle. Each Gaudham will be able to house a maximum of 200 cattle, depending on capacity,' the release said. Over the past year, the Chhattisgarh High Court has on more than one occasion expressed concern over stray cattle on roads and highways, noting the risks posed to both animals and humans. The new scheme includes a fixed monthly honorarium of ₹10,916 for cowherds and ₹13,126 for cattle attendants. Additionally, a fixed daily allowance will be provided for fodder. Outstanding Gaudhams will receive daily per-animal payments — ₹10 in the first year, ₹20 in the second, ₹30 in the third, and ₹35 in the fourth year. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the Gaudham Yojana would ensure livestock safety while providing a regular source of income to cowherds and cattle attendants. The scheme effectively replaces the now-defunct Gauthan Yojana, launched by the previous Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government three years ago, under which honorariums were decided by local committees operating the Gauthans. A government official said the Gauthan Yojana had no dedicated budget, with funds sourced from other schemes such as the District Mineral Fund and MGNREGA. After the BJP government came to power, no budget provision was made due to the absence of a detailed plan. The new scheme has dropped certain provisions of the Gauthan Yojana, such as procuring cow dung for organic fertiliser. 'There will be no dung procurement in Gaudhams. Cowherds will utilise the dung themselves. Only stray and abandoned cattle will be kept in Gaudhams, where they will be scientifically conserved and protected. Priority will be given to cowsheds for managing Gaudhams,' the release added. The Gaudham Yojana will also make use of existing infrastructure created under the Gauthan Yojana. 'The Gaudhams will be established only on government land with secure fencing, cattle sheds, adequate water supply, and electricity. In Gauthans where infrastructure already exists, adjoining pastureland will be allotted for green fodder cultivation. If a registered cowshed committee in the vicinity declines to operate a Gaudham, other voluntary organisations, NGOs, trusts, farmer producer companies, or cooperative societies will be eligible to apply for its operation,' the release said. The scheme will be implemented based on proposals from district administrations and will be distinct from registered cowsheds. 'In the first phase, Gaudhams will be established in rural areas located along major national highways in Chhattisgarh. The district-level committee will study all applications comparatively and forward the name of the selected organisation to the Chhattisgarh State Cow Service Commission. After approval, an agreement will be signed between the Commission and the organisation, following which the organisation will take over Gaudham operations,' the release noted.

Bangladesh elections in first week of February 2025: EC
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Dhaka, Aug 9 (PTI) Bangladesh's poll body chief on Saturday said general elections would be held in the first week of February 2025 but ensuring it in a free, fair and impartial manner remained a major challenge. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, however said the exact date would be disclosed two months before the schedule was announced. 'People have lost confidence in the election system, the Election Commission and the administrative machinery involved in the electoral process," state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) quoted Uddin as saying at a function in northwestern Rangpur district. Uddin said his office, however, was 'working tirelessly to restore this lost trust." The CEC's comments come four days after interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus announced that the polls would be held in February next year. Yunus had made the announcement coinciding with the first anniversary of the ouster of prime minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League regime on August 5. Uddin feared that there was a growing apathy among voters as 'over the years, people have become disengaged from the voting process" but added 'as long as the Election Commission remains conscious of its responsibilities, all actions will strictly follow the rules, regulations and laws." Contrary to civic and rights groups' concerns over the law and order situation in the country, Uddin said, 'the law and order is currently stable and we aim to make it even better so that citizens can vote peacefully and without fear." The CEC, however, said the exact date of election would be disclosed two months before the schedule was announced while his office was preparing to conduct the polls within a short time frame despite various challenges. Meanwhile, former prime minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has emerged as the single largest party in Awami League's absence after Yunus' government disbanded its activities under an executive order. BNP's self-exiled acting chairman and Zia's son Tarique Rahman on Friday said the party and its like-minded partners would take part in the February polls as an alliance. The BNP earlier formed a 12-party alliance, mostly centre right groups and a left leaning one, but the party has visibly distanced itself from its once crucial ally, the far right Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat was a key-partner in the BNP-led four-party alliance government that ran the country from 2001-2006. Earlier in the 2018 national election, BNP included Jamaat-e-Islami as part of its electoral alliance but since the ouster of the Awami League regime last year, there has been a visible rift between them. Analysts said BNP's decision to distance itself from Jamaat was both political and strategic as it would give BNP a more liberal and contemporary image to civil society, the youth, and centrist political forces. A violent street protest by Students Against Discrimination (SAD) ousted the Awami League government on August 5, 2024. Three days after Hasina fled the country, Yunus had taken over as the chief adviser on August 8. A large offshoot of the SAD formed the National Citizen Party (NCP) in February this year. YSRCP alleges Rs 3,500 crore liquor scam 'malicious invention' by CM Naidu
Synopsis YSRCP leaders Gurumoorthy and Bharat denounced the Rs 3,500 crore liquor scam as a fabrication by Chief Minister Naidu, alleging it's a political vendetta against YSRCP member Midhun Reddy. They accused the TDP government of silencing opposition and diverting attention from their own alleged corruption. The leaders further claimed TDP engaged in liquor irregularities during 2014-19, causing significant revenue loss. PTI YSRCP leaders M Gurumoorthy and M Bharat on Saturday alleged that the Rs 3,500 crore liquor scam is a "malicious invention" by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Speaking at a press conference in Rajahmundry, they claimed that the case against YSRCP Lok Sabha member PV Midhun Reddy is part of a "political vendetta" aimed at "suppressing dissent and diverting public attention." Gurumoorthy alleged, "The Rs 3,500 crore liquor scam is a malicious invention by Naidu." The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had arrested Midhun Reddy in connection with the alleged scam, which pertains to the previous YSRCP regime. The leaders accused the TDP government of using the liquor scam as a tool to "silence opposition voices" while deflecting scrutiny from the NDA coalition government's alleged corruption. Gurumoorthy condemned the "inhumane denial of basic rights" to Midhun Reddy, including barring his sister from tying a Rakhi during his remand, calling it "utterly despicable politics." He also accused the TDP of liquor irregularities during 2014-19, including bypassing cabinet approvals, waiving an eight percent distillery tax, and causing a revenue loss of Rs 6,500 crore through "favouritism and advance payments." Bharat alleged that Naidu's name has become "synonymous with liquor corruption", pointing to the alleged privatisation of liquor shops, the proliferation of illegal belt shops, and inflated prices generating illicit condemned what they claimed was harassment of YSRCP leaders through "baseless cases" over the past 14 months, alleging that MLAs exploit liquor, land, and sand resources to orchestrate scams in their constituencies for "political gains".Bharat claimed the YSRCP is committed to fighting this "conspiracy" and urged the public to "resist exploitation". He alleged that the TDP-led coalition government's failure to control liquor distribution has "damaged families and communities throughout" the state.
