Detroit Tigers to place Kerry Carpenter on injured list with hamstring tightness
Hinch said Carpenter had an MRI on his right hamstring Monday, June 30, after he injured his hamstring against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, June 29.
With Carpenter, a left-handed hitter, out of the lineup, the Tigers will recall infielder Trey Sweeney, also a lefty, after he was just sent to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, June 28.
If it's the 10-day injured list for Carpenter, he could theoretically return July 11, but with All-Star break beginning Monday, July 14, it's possible the Tigers could keep Carpenter out of the lineup until Friday, July 18, when games resume.
Hinch suggested the Tigers were being cautious even though the MRI didn't reveal significant damage. Carpenter has dealt with hamstring issues since early June and also was limited by it during the 2024 postseason.
The Tigers slugger felt tightness in his hamstring in the fifth inning during the team's win against the Twins on Sunday. He was pulled from the game. He went 2-for-3, including a home run in the first inning, before he exited.

"It's really annoying," Carpenter told reporters Sunday. "But, man, everyone has been working hard on it. It's hard to put a finger on it, but we'll see how it goes from tonight on."
Despite the hamstring issues, Carpenter is putting up another fine season toggling between the corner outfield spots and designated hitter. Despite a dip in batting average, slugging percentage and OPS, his power numbers are similar to last season. He has hit 16 home runs through 78 games; last season he hit 18 home runs in 87 total games.
He'd been on an uptick the last five games, hitting three homers with six hits in 13 at-bats.
