Motorist detained over a hit-and-run and concealing evidence charges in Dubai
The first is a 33-year-old Indian man, who is involved in a hit-and-run accident that left a person seriously injured. He is also accused of failing to stop at the scene or provide necessary assistance and first aid. The second accused is a Pakistani national who repaired the vehicle involved in the accident without obtaining a repair permit from the relevant traffic control authority.
Al Falasi explained that the incident took place on July 20, 2025, when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on an internal street in the Hor Al Anz area. The pedestrian sustained severe physical injuries as a result of the incident and was transferred to a medical facility for treatment. This incident occurred due to a combination of negligence, inattention and a lack of consideration for other road users, Salah Al Falasi said.
He commended the vigilance and rapid response of the Dubai Police security teams, who arrested the driver and manager of the vehicle repair centre within 48 hours, demonstrating their professionalism.
Al Falasi also confirmed that the Traffic Prosecution began investigating the accident immediately after the perpetrators were arrested. The first has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of the accident, which resulted in bodily injury and property damage. The second defendant, who manages the vehicle repair centre, charged with obstructing judicial procedures by repairing a vehicle with signs of an accident without obtaining a permit from the relevant traffic control authority. The prosecution ordered the detention of the accused pending investigation, to monitor the health of the injured person and determine their final medical condition, and to hear the testimony of those responsible for the arrest. This is in preparation for taking the necessary measures to refer the accused to trial and demand harsher penalties in accordance with relevant local and federal legislation.
Counselor Salah Boufrousha Al Falasi called on drivers to exercise the utmost care and caution when driving on the roads and to comply with all legal and safety requirements to ensure the safety of all road users and protect public and private property.
He also stressed the importance of not fleeing the scene of an accident involving bodily injury, except in cases of extreme necessity, and of reporting the relevant authorities in the emirate within three hours of the accident. This is in accordance with the latest amendment to the Traffic Law, which came into force on 29 March 2025. The law stipulates a penalty of imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year and a fine of not less than Dhs50,000 and not more than Dhs100,000, or one of these two penalties.

'I cannot believe that she is gone and that I will never be able to share anything with her. She was a close childhood friend.' Extremely dangerous Abdulla, who lives in Al Nahda, drives an e-scooter to and from school every day. 'I ride it to the metro near my school and then from the metro to my house every day,' he said. 'Earlier, I was quite lax about safety measures. It is only since the accident that I have begun noticing how dangerously people use the vehicle. I have seen so many near-misses where people ride the scooters in extremely dangerous manners.' In April this year, authorities in Dubai announced the launch of a specialized Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit to monitor violations by cyclists and e-scooter riders. The popularity of e-scooters has burgeoned with the emirate seeing an eight percent increase in the number of trips undertaken on the vehicle. There are strict rules governing the use of e-scooters, with offenders facing fines of up to Dh300 for violations like riding on public roads, reckless driving, and failing to wear safety gear. Last week, Dubai Police revealed that they had confiscated a total of 656 scooters in Al Barsha area alone in 2024 due to various traffic law violations committed by the riders. Despite this, Abdulla said that he had seen people driving dangerously near his house. 'I see many people riding it on the public road, sometimes even against traffic,' he said. 'The e-scooters are a great mode of transport but there needs to be a clampdown on those who misuse it and put themselves and others at risk.'

They were accompanied by Indian Christian evangelist Dr. KA Paul, who has been advocating for her release. Together, they made an appeal to the Houthi authorities for leniency. In an emotional video shared by PTI, Mishel is seen expressing her love for her mother in both Malayalam and English, saying, 'I love you, mamma.' The audio, however, is not clearly audible. Last week, India's Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that it is closely monitoring the case and providing full support to Priya and her family. The ministry also stated that it is coordinating with 'friendly governments' to help resolve the matter diplomatically. Nimisha Priya had been sentenced to death in Yemen for the murder of a Yemeni national. Dubai Police recover AED 1.1 million jewellery bag in cross-border operation
In a remarkable display of international cooperation, Dubai Police have successfully recovered and returned a jewellery bag worth over AED 1.1 million to a UAE resident. The recovery followed close coordination with Bangladeshi authorities and the UAE Embassy in Dhaka, after a Dubai-based jeweller reported the loss. The jeweller had travelled to a GCC country for an exhibition, carrying four bags of diamond jewellery. Upon arrival, he realised one of the bags wasn't his. He returned to Dubai immediately and filed a report. An investigation revealed that a Bangladeshi traveller had mistakenly taken the jeweller's bag during security checks, as both bags looked nearly identical. Acting swiftly, Dubai Police coordinated with officials in Dhaka. The bag was located and returned safely to the UAE. Dubai Police thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh, Abdulla Al Hamoudi, for their support. They also praised the professionalism of all parties involved, reaffirming their commitment to strong international law enforcement partnerships.
