Jason Momoa shuts down nepo baby claims as his son Nakoa-Wolf, 16, scores major role in Dune: Part Three in his Hollywood debut

Daily Mail25-07-2025
Jason Momoa has insisted that his son Nakoa-Wolf isn't a nepo baby as he discussed his big Hollywood debut.
His son Nakoa-Wolf, 16, is making his acting debut in Dune: Part Three after scoring the role of one of Timothee Chalamat and Zendaya 's on-screen twin children.
However, the Aquaman star, 45, has shut down any speculation that he helped his son get his start in Hollywood, insisting Nakoa-Wolf did it without any help.
Jason, who starred in the first Dune movie and is reprising his role, told Extra: 'He's into the workforce for the first time. It's going to be good.
'He did it on his own, I don't want to help him, and he's done it all on his own, and good for him.'
Jason sweetly said he believes his son is 'better' than him and shared his awe over being able to handle himself in Hollywood at such a young age.
'I couldn't do what he's doing at his age, there's no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own,' he admitted while appearing at the Chief of War premiere with his family.
'I was on Baywatch at 19, he's 16 and holding shit down with Denis Villeneuve.'
'We raised him beautiful. We raised our children… it's just, you know, being loved and being confident in themselves… that is what he is. He's very confident.'
As well as Nakoa-Wolf, Jason also shares a daughter Lola Iolani, 18, with his ex-wife Lisa Bonet, 57, who is also a Hollywood actress.
Nakoa-Wolf has been cast in Denis Villeneuve's third Dune instalment alongside Silo star Ida Brooke, 17.
The two young actors will portray the twin children of Paul Atreides (Timothée) and Chani (Zendaya) - Leto Atreides and Ghanima Atreides.
The film, which follows the events of Frank Herbert's second novel, Dune Messiah, continues the story of Paul Atreides as he becomes emperor.
Jason, 45, originally played Duncan Idaho in Villeneuve's 2021 Dune film but did not appear in Dune: Part Two, which was released in 2024.
He is confirmed to return in the third instalment, though details about his character's reappearance remain unclear.
In the original book series, Duncan is resurrected as a clone – known as a ghola – following his death.
In Dune's first movie, Duncan was the loyal swordmaster and mentor to Paul Atreides.
His character was killed near the film's climax while defending Paul and Lady Jessica (portrayed by 56-year-old Rebecca Ferguson) from Sardaukar forces.
Elsewhere, Jason was joined by his two children wihle he attended the premiere of his new Apple TV+ series Chief of War on Friday on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Over the weekend, Jason's teenage children stepped out to support him ahead of the release of his latest TV project.
At Friday's premiere, Jason showcased his Hawaiian heritage wearing a black, red and yellow feathered cape over his tight black T-shirt and dark pants.
In Chief of War, Jason stars as Ka'iana, a war chief who joins a bloody campaign to unite warring islands against the colonizers who will eventually take over their homes.
Jason co-created, stars in and served as an executive producer on the Apple TV+ series. The nine episodes were shot in Hawaii and in New Zealand.

Aquaman star Jason Momoa admits he gave up smoking after near-death experience

Film star Jason Momoa, famous for his role in the Aquaman superhero movie, has revealed that he experienced a near-death experience while out surfing in the Hawaiian sea Hollywood star Jason Momoa has spoken of a near-death experience at sea - and said it made him quit smoking. The beefcake actor is famous for his role in the Aquaman superhero movies battling to rule the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. ‌ But Jason said he faced his own trouble in the ocean with a fight for life when he was surfing in his native Hawaii with three pals. He revealed: "We paddled 13 miles down the coast and you're kind of almost a mile offshore. We're about seven miles into it and my leash snapped. ‌ And it's so windy on Maui and so the board just went, I couldn't even see it anymore." It comes after Taylor Swift sparks engagement rumours as fans spot Travis Kelce's lock screen. ‌ Jason, 46, said he was being battered by 10-foot waves crashing down on his head in a notoriously dangerous part of the water surfers dub "s***f***s". He continued: "It pulls you out and you just get hit with these waves. "So I was stuck in this crazy spot and unknown to me I was really on the outer reef and they couldn't see me. I had my paddle and I was waving it and they couldn't see me. ‌ "And the waves were so big, it basically took my shorts off it was so f***ing big. I was out there for a while and then I just couldn't see anyone coming to get me. And I couldn't move anymore and my arms and my legs gave up after, you know, I was out there for a while." Jason said he was thinking of his baby daughter, who was just three-months-old at the time, when his friend Larry Hamilton came to his aid. He explained: "He came from behind and I had already given up. My body stopped, like, I couldn't move my arms anymore and I bubbled down. "And then my toe hit the outer reef. Like, I literally gave up and I'm screaming inside and my foot just hits the outer reef. And I don't know if it was a f***ing whale or like it just could have been one rock. But I just reached down, grab it. I jump up. ‌ "I get hit by another wave and I dig my feet into the coral. And I'm literally in the middle of the ocean. And I'm just... I could barely put my lips above just to breathe and get a break. But I had already given up. So it's like you've already given up and died and have a second chance at it. "Then I still stayed out there for like 10 minutes. I was hanging on the side of this reef. And I hear Larry come from behind and he's on my board towing his board. And I get on and he's like, 'Are you alright? I'm like, 'No.' I remember seeing him, but I was 10 minutes dead already." Jason admitted to the SmartLess podcast that his fear that he was going to die was so great that he prayed to his ancestors. He also told the hosts - fellow actors Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett - that the scare prompted him to quit smoking. ‌ The Game of Thrones actor said: "I have seven more miles to paddle. My feet are covered in blood. And I'm just literally looking for my ancestors just paddling the rest of this way, head down and we get out. "I do believe in my ancestors. I prayed to my grandmother and my grandfather. I was reaching and I was in a bad position and if you're stuck out there in that kind of waves with no board, you're f***ed and there's just no way to swim in. I don't have that. So it was a bad spot to be in. "And I mean, I could have been trolling, there could be sharks everywhere, but I'm just like trolling this whole f***ing coast. I used to smoke and I used to smoke like two, three packs a day. I couldn't stop for my kids, I couldn't stop for my ex. I couldn't stop smoking. "And the moment I came out, I never smoked again. Like, I just died. Like I tried and tried, but like I couldn't do it again because I just, I gave up. Like, I gave up my life." *The SmartLess podcast interview with Jason Momoa is on general release from August 11.

The comedian, 44, joked he was 'nearly chucked in jail' when the bag of white powder raised concern to custom officers. Jason left fans in stitches as he explained the petrifying ordeal in a video on X once he passed through customs. He said: 'I've just come off the ferry in Bilbao and we got pulled into the side, the van searched and what not. 'The most worrying bit was when he [customs officer] went "What's in there?" [pointing to the collegen] which is like a box of stuff from Will Powders. 'And then opened this bag of collagen peptides which let me show you... My heart was in my mouth, it's literally a massive bag of white power.' 'Phew! Got away with it though', he quipped. Jason captioned his post: 'Heart-stopping moment at customs in Bilbao! Nearly chucked in jail over some @willpowders collagen! phew!' Fans wrote in the comments: 'You lead an exciting life [laughing face emojis]', 'More material to bank for the next tour', 'You could write your whole next tour just off this week xx', 'I travel with my willpowders collagen too. To make it worse, I have the big measuring spoon in the bag too. I always hold my breath in security expecting to be pulled to one side'. Jason gave a health update alongside a defiant message after undergoing surgery and cancelling four shows on Monday. He was due to take to stage for his A Manford All Seasons tour in Hertfordshire on Thursday before it was announced he was 'too unwell', with the star going on to cancel a further three shows. He later revealed he had developed appendicitis - which is when the organ swells, causing severe pain and in most cases, surgeons remove the appendix. Jason left fans in stitches as he explained the petrifying ordeal in a video on X once he passed through customs And taking to his Instagram on Sunday, Jason had seemingly recovered well as he revealed he was out of hospital and heading on holiday. The TV personality also defiantly declared that he'll 'not be defeated' while informing fans of the major travel alterations he's had to make amid his illness. Sharing a snap of himself reclining on a bed in a ferry cabin, Jason penned: 'I will not be defeated! I'm going on holiday! Might not be able to fly to Portugal but what about this ferry! On it. ⛴️ it's only 33 hours.' His post was met with plenty of messages from fans expressing their joy that he was on the mend. Meanwhile, last week Jason was sweetly supported by his parents as they sat by his bedside after he underwent appendix surgery. He gave fans an update as he took to Instagram to share a sweet photograph of his parents Sharon and Ian paying him a visit in hospital. 'Mum & dad come to look after me for the night! Rest of the family away and they didn't want by myself,' he wrote in a caption. Always their baby no matter how old ya get!' John Bishop stepped in to replace Jason at the Kendal Calling festival on Sunday, with the Liverpudlian comedian, 58, uploading a humorous announcement video that was shared to Jason's page. He was due to take to stage for his A Manford All Seasons tour in Hertfordshire on Thursday before it was announced he was 'too unwell', with it later being revealed he had appendicitis The TV personality also defiantly declared that he'll 'not be defeated' while informing fans of the major travel alterations he's had to make amid his illness Speaking to the camera, John said: 'The one that can't be cancelled is Kendal Calling on Sunday afternoon. So he's asked me if I'm free and I am, so I'm going to step up and fill Jason's boots.' Jason underwent surgery following a 'scary' 24 hours, revealing he first came down with symptoms while driving at 70mph down the motorway. He shared on Instagram: 'Appendix surgery all went well, now in recovery with my Vimto, they serve it in all Manchester hospitals. 'Bit of a scary & extremely painful 24 hours but thankful to our NHS & my incredible nurse mum who's a godsend in a health crisis! 'My advice would be to not get Appendicitis whilst driving at 70mph on the motorway!' Jason shared his disappointment about not being able to make his upcoming shows and thanked fans for their support. 'Seriously though, I'm gutted that I've had to move the dates this weekend, and I'm sorry for the late notice to so many people in St Albans, Oxford, Lincoln, Skegness & at Kendall Calling,' he added. 'I thought I could get by on antibiotics and surgery at a later date so I could still do the shows, but was advised not to. Sharing a health update on Instagram on Friday, Jason penned: 'Appendix surgery all went well, now in recovery with my Vimto, they serve it in all Manchester hospitals' 'Also means I can't fly out to Portugal on Monday to join my family on holiday! Ah well, such is life. Thanks for all the ''Get Well Soon'' messages.' Earlier on Thursday, it was confirmed that Jason would not be performing in Hertfordshire due to ill health. An initial post read: 'We regret to inform you that tonight's performance of A Manford All Seasons @albanarena has been unexpectedly cancelled due to Jason Manford being unwell and will now be rescheduled to Mon 20th Oct 2025. 'Thank you for understanding, we apologise for any inconvenience caused.' In another statement shared to X, a further three shows in Oxford, Lincoln and Skegness were also scrapped and rescheduled for later this year and early 2026. 'We regret to inform you that the following performances of A Manford All Seasons have been unexpectedly cancelled due to Jason Manford being unwell,' it added. 'Oxford, New Theatre. Lincoln, The Engine Shed. Skegness, Embassy Hall. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.' WHAT IS APPENDICITIS? Appendicitis is a swelling of the appendix, a two to four-inch-long organ connected to the large intestine. Appendicitis can cause severe pain and it's important for it to be treated swiftly in case the appendix bursts, which can cause life-threatening illness. In most cases surgeons will remove the appendix in an appendectomy – scientists aren't sure why people need an appendix but removing it does not harm people. The causes of appendicitis aren't clear but it is thought to be caused by something blocking the entrance to the organ. Symptoms include pain in the stomach which later travels to your lower right-hand-side and becomes severe. Pressing on this area, coughing, or walking can all make the pain worse, and other symptoms can be nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhoea and a fever.
