Fantasy Football minicamp roundup: Malik Nabers, Hollywood Brown and more
We're deep into the NFL offseason in June and the final round of minicamps got going this week. Among those teams are the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Rams, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks. Last week, the majority of the NFL held their minicamps and we got a flurry of news bits that helped shed some light on potential fantasy football storylines going into 2025. Below, we're going to go over news coming out of this week's minicamps and how that information might impact fantasy football for the upcoming season. Be sure to follow along here for live updates from minicamps this week. Hollywood Healthy The Kansas City Chiefs were able to make it all the way to the Super Bowl last season with a revolving door at wide receiver. That group included rookie Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Justin Watson and Hollywood Brown. The last name on that list, Brown only played in two regular-season games last season due to a shoulder injury. At the start of minicamp, Brown told reporters he's "100% healthy" going into 2025. Advertisement Fantasy impact: Medium Hollywood is an interesting sleeper going into 2025. Rice is coming off a major knee injury even if he starts the season healthy. Worthy showed big flashes of upside as a rookie, but can he be a true No. 1 option for QB Patrick Mahomes? Travis Kelce is still Travis Kelce but he's seen a slow decline over the past two seasons and could be thinking retirement soon. So, there's a path to Brown being the No. 1 WR option for Mahomes in an elite offense. Yahoo's analysts have Hollywood ranked 59th among WRs going into 2025. Nabers expected to be ready for training camp Last week, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll told reporters he wasn't concerned about WR Malik Nabers' toe injury. Daboll echoed those statements during the Giants' minicamp this week, stating the injury isn't anything that should be "long-term" and Nabers is expected to be ready for training camp in July. It's still a bit sketchy that Nabers isn't on the field right now given how much time he's had to nurse the injury. Plus, this could all be coachspeak from Daboll. But we'll take his word for it right now. Advertisement Fantasy impact: Medium We're putting this at a medium because of what the other side of this news would have meant, if that makes sense. If Daboll had come out and said Nabers would miss parts of training camp, we'd be on red alert. Nabers appears fine but we also want to see him on the field come July. If that's the case, we can put all of this injury-scare stuff to rest. But until then, we're going to continue to keep our eye on the situation. Giants QBs looking good so far If Nabers is good to go to start the season, whoever is throwing him the ball will be a major upgrade, it seems. QBs Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston were brought in this offseason and the Giants also drafted QB Jaxson Dart in the first round in 2025. All three have looked good at practice so far. Wilson will 100% begin the season as the starter. We could see a situation where Dart gets some playing time late in the season if New York isn't in the playoff picture. Either way, the Giants truly haven't had a real QB starting since Eli Manning in 2018. Advertisement Fantasy impact: Medium Again, a lot of the news coming out is a bit knee-jerk-ish and it's early in the summer. But if the Giants can get average QB play, it could be huge for fantasy purposes. We saw what Nabers did with a combination of Daniel Jones, Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito last season — 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. If the Giants can keep Wilson upright, Nabers' ceiling could be the top wideout in fantasy football. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] It also could thrust WR2 Wan'Dale Robinson into fantasy relevancy. Robinson was quietly WR42 last season with 93 catches on 140 targets for 699 yards and three TDs. With decent QB play, Robinson could spend most of the season as a viable FLEX option in most PPR formats. WR Jalin Hyatt, who was injured during practice this week, and TE Theo Johnson, also could become appealing sleeper picks in deeper leagues. Kyren Williams, Rams progressing in contract talks Williams is entering the final year of his rookie contract and can become a free agent after 2025. He was able to steal the backfield in 2023, finishing with 1,144 yards and 12 TDs while leading the NFL in rushing yards per game (95.3). He followed that campaign up with career highs across the board — 316 carries for 1,299 yards and 14 TDs in 2024. The two sides are working to get a deal done before the season but it's unclear if that will come to fruition. Advertisement Fantasy impact: Low This is low but one report could change things quickly. Williams isn't going anywhere this season. If the Rams choose not to extend him, he could get a franchise tag next offseason. Either way, Williams could be playing for a contract, which may up his game for 2025. It also could mean the Rams want to see what they have in second-year back Blake Corum, who didn't get much work as a rookie. Los Angeles also added a RB via the 2025 draft in Jarquez Hunter. Not to say Corum and Hunter are a threat to Williams. Chances are Williams gets extended and continues to be a top-10 fantasy back. We also know how NFL franchises have treated top RBs recently when it comes to contracts. If this thing goes south, it could have a big impact. For now, it doesn't.

They've lost a number of games in the past couple of weeks to fall below the .500 mark. Advertisement Yet the Mariners still are holding their heads up high and working to fix whatever is wrong. Seattle manager Dan Wilson doesn't appear to be too concerned with what he's been seeing on the field. 'The attitude has been there,' Wilson said after Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon, according to 'The energy's been there. Everything's been there except the results, and we've got to change the results and we will get there.' The Mariners didn't have a fun trip to the Valley of the Sun as Arizona swept a three-game series at Chase Field in Phoenix. What's been happening with the Mariners? They have one of the best power hitters in MLB with catcher Cal Raleigh. Well, looking at some statistics a little closer might offer some answers. Advertisement On Wednesday, Seattle had eight hits and two walks. It looks like their offensive output is good. But getting those runners home from being on base has been a struggle. Through 67 games, the Mariners have left 493 runners on base. Seattle Mariners aren't getting runners home in a timely fashion, hurting chances at wins How bad is that statistic? That's the second-highest mark among all American League teams. In addition, Seattle is hitting .222 with runners in scoring position. That's the fourth-lowest mark in all the major leagues, only being better than the Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, and Baltimore Orioles. They are not scoring runs. The traffic on the basepaths is there. So, the Mariners need to fix that ASAP if they are going to stay atop the AL West Division. Right now, they are four games behind the Houston Astros. Advertisement Yes, once again, Seattle is looking up and seeing Houston in first place. That's a spot the Mariners don't like being in one bit. 'Nobody in this clubhouse likes to lose,' center fielder Julio Rodríguez said. 'But I feel like we all know that the game of baseball is gonna go up and down. Everybody through the season is gonna go through stretches like this. I feel like everybody is staying pretty even-keeled throughout and just kind of putting one foot in front of the other.' Mariners first baseman Rowdy Tellez has been improving on his stats over the last few weeks. Seattle needs his hot bat to keep going. But the real highlight reel right now belongs to Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh. Advertisement Raleigh's output at the plate has been awesome. Raleigh has hit 27 home runs to lead the major leagues. He also has with 60 RBIs, giving the Mariners' offense a big push. Still, the Mariners have seen their American League West Division lead go away. They have slid down to be in second place as the Houston Astros have stormed their way to the top spot. Seattle is 37-35 at this point, still doing its best to stay in the division race. Despite being in mid-June, the Mariners are looking like they are looking for an AL wild card spot. This level of play has kept Seattle in the No. 11 spot in the latest MLB Power Rankings from The Athletic. Seattle Mariners' offense has been picking up the slack for team's pitching woes Tim Britton of The Athletic offers some perspective on the Mariners' current situation. "The Mariners' offense is the best it's been since ancient times, and that foundational starting rotation has instead been their albatross," Britton wrote. "The division is still winnable, and the ceiling for the roster looks higher now than it did in March if all aspects of the game align." Advertisement Britton points out that the Mariners' pitching staff was the big reason why the team wasn't included in The Athletic's preseason top 10 rankings. "In that initial writeup, (The Athletic writer) Grant Brisbee went on and on about Cal Raleigh's chase of 60 home runs and the genius of bringing back Jorge Polanco and all of why J.P. Crawford would rebound with the stick — and how if this team could just find a couple starters," Britton wrote. "… Yeah, so sometimes teams follow broad expectations while confounding on every specific." Mariners manager Dan Wilson has done a good job of getting Seattle to stay in the division race. Even though Seattle is down 4 1/2 games to the Astros, it remains in contention as the summer months roll along.
