The Cleveland Browns are taking up a majority of the conversations after the 2025 NFL Draft. Why? The Browns not only selected Shedeur Sanders out of Colorado in the fifth round, but they drafted Dillon Gabriel ahead of Sanders in the third round.

After trading for Kenny Pickett in the offseason, the Browns now have four quarterbacks to choose from if you add Joe Flacco. Because the Browns drafted two quarterbacks, and the most popular name in the draft, many are speculating on what Cleveland will do with the quarterback room ahead of the start of the season. Deshawn Watson will not play this season.
NFL insider Jeremy Fowler discussed his thoughts on the Browns' QB future on the ESPN Cleveland radio station.
'They (Browns) look at quarterbacks like currency,' Fowler said. 'If someone goes down in training camp, they have someone they can trade. Maybe it's Pickett, maybe it's one of the rookies. But I can see that maneuvering. I have a hard time thinking they keep four on the roster.'
Trading one of the quarterbacks would be a smart move on the Browns' side. It does not make sense to keep this many. It's understandable, knowing the Browns have still yet to find a franchise quarterback, but that won't be determined this season unless you see Sanders play extraordinarily.

Trading Gabriel just seems like the logical move. The Browns probably drafted Gabriel, not knowing Sanders would still be available later on. Because he was, the Browns decided to pull the trigger and draft the former Colorado QB. Sanders has all the intangibles to be a great player. Moving on from Gabriel could get you a draft pick, rather than stashing him away on the practice squad.
Unless Flacco gets cut, he will likely be the backup with his experience.
The Browns have plenty of options. We will see how training camp pans out on if Cleveland will send any of these quarterbacks to another squad.

Ole Miss trimmed a 12-3 deficit to 12-11 with five runs in the seventh and three in the eighth but went down quietly in the ninth. Little Rock, one of two teams in the field with a losing record, almost became a second No. 4 seed to advance, but the Trojans lost to LSU in the Baton Rouge Regional championship game. The program has reached the Super Regional three previous times under coach Chris Pollard but had to play each time on the road, losing at Texas Tech in 2018, Vanderbilt in 2019 and Virginia in 2023. Duke took the first game in each of those Supers but ultimately fell short. Now, the Blue Devils finally get to play at home, thanks to Murray State's magical run through the Oxford Regional. And how about those Racers! Murray State won the Regional in dramatic fashion, beating Ole Miss twice at Swayze Field to advance to the Supers for the first time in program history. The Racers got it done offensively, scoring a total of 42 runs in their four games in Oxford — three vs. Ole Miss and one vs. Georgia Tech. They might be the top two. Tennessee has prospects such as pitchers Liam Doyle and Marcus Phillips, and infielders Andrew Fischer and Gavin Kilen. Arkansas counters with star shortstop Wehiwa Aloy, outfielder Charles Davalan and pitchers Gage Wood and Zach Root. It's a talent bonanza. Advertisement It's also a continuation of the SEC's disappointment after an underwhelming performance in the Regionals. That one of these teams definitely won't get to Omaha is a downer for the league, especially considering some of the national seeds that didn't make it to the Supers. Tony Vitello returns to his former home to take on mentor Dave Van Horn in one of the sport's great environments. Arkansas took two out of three at home against Tennessee to end the regular season and had no issues cruising through the first weekend, but the Vols seem to have their edge back. — Rexrode The eight-nine matchup is always intriguing, but this one is especially so because after a wild Regional round, we don't have that many Supers featuring two top-16 seeds. And neither team had an easy path to get here. After Oregon State's opening home loss, the Beavers' chances were shaky, but OSU responded by scoring 43 (43!) runs in its final three Regional games. FSU needed some magic of its own to pull off a late-game comeback against Mississippi State and advance to its 19th (19th!) Super Regional, the most of any program in the country. Florida State has one of the top prospects in the country in junior left-hander Jamie Arnold. The Beavers boast one of the best freshmen in the nation in right-hander Dax Whitney. Though they aren't likely to start the same game — Arnold should be the Game 1 guy while Whitney is likely for Game 2 — we are probably in for a masterclass in pitching. — Schnell This battle of the four-letter state schools is a historical mismatch. The Roadrunners are in the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2013 — which happens to be the year that the Bruins last qualified for the College World Series. UCLA won it all 12 years ago. Coach John Savage, in his 21st season, aims to take a fourth UCLA team to Omaha. But UTSA will not be intimidated by the iconic jersey or the setting after it rolled Texas twice en route to sweeping the Austin Regional. It was one of several black eyes for the SEC in the opening weekend of the tournament. David Njoku will enter his ninth season in the league at a cost of nearly $11.5 million to the team. Last season, the University of Miami product posted 505 yards on 64 catches with five touchdowns in just 11 games. Advertisement The former Hurricane was plagued by ankle, knee and hamstring injuries that kept him out of six games and slowed him in several appearances. It also didn't help that there's been a revolving door at quarterback in Cleveland over the past two seasons while Deshaun Watson continues to be injured. Pro Football Focus ranked Njoku at No. 15 in their list of the top tight ends as we approach 2025. 15. David Njoku, Cleveland Browns "After a breakout 2023 season in which he caught 88 passes for 975 yards, Njoku dealt with injuries and a shuffling quarterback room in Cleveland on his way to a career-low 64.0 PFF overall grade this past season. If he can stay healthy with stability at the quarterback position in 2025, expect the athletic big man to flirt with 1,000 yards for the first time in his career." Advertisement Njoku made the Pro Bowl in 2023 after 882 yards on 81 catches and six touchdowns. It's that kind of form that he needs to return to so the Browns can justify that salary. He also enters 2025 with only void years left on his deal. Match that with the fact that the Browns drafted Bowling Green tight end Harold Fannin Jr. this season in the third round, and Njoku could be sharing playing time with the rookie. It's a complicated formula that might see Njoku's days numbered in Cleveland. Flacco Responds to Browns' Mentor Headlines originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns are never too far from a negative headline, but that's life as a maligned organization. The negatives get overblown, the neutral doesn't get the benefit of the doubt, and every storyline has the potential to become a problem. Advertisement Make no mistake, the Browns' biggest problem is its quarterback situation. With quarterback Deshaun Watson haunting the offense from (presumably) injured reserve, Cleveland will turn to one of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, or Shedeur Sanders – the latter two being mid-round picks from the 2025 NFL Draft. Flacco is expected to compete for the starting job, and he makes the most sense to be under center for Week 1. But when his comments about not being the most willing mentor hit the timeline at organized team activities (OTAs), Cleveland lost contain of a relative non-issue. Speaking to Albert Breer, Flacco got honest about the Browns' mentor controversy, and how his attitude isn't nearly as hostile as some fans have taken it. 'Listen, everybody wants to have good relationships and be a good teammate, or that's the expectation at least,' Flacco said. 'I think you want a bunch of players that have that mindset—it's about the team and it's about having good relationships, and freaking pushing people. Advertisement 'I think that is important to do. And in order to have those relationships and keep the team first, you have to have a bunch of guys that want to play football. That's what it comes down to. Being a mentor and coming out and just kind of going along for the ride isn't getting me off my couch.' Clearly, Flacco would much prefer to use teach tape from 2025 games to show the rookies how it's done. And while both Gabriel and Sanders will likely make decent arguments to play in the coming months, Flacco has earned the benefit of the doubt. In 2023, Flacco's hot streak took the Browns from destitution to competition, landing them in the AFC Wild Card Round by being just enough on offense. This year's defense isn't quite as potent, and the expectations certainly won't be as high. But Flacco has been around the block several times now, toeing the line between competent starter and second-string mentor. "I want to play football," Flacco said. "But also, I want to be a really good teammate, I really do. I enjoy being in that locker room, and just being around the guys. I think that's all a part of it. I've talked about how it's not necessarily my job, but at the same time, I'm also not gonna shy away from doing those things. I'm not worried about teaching guys and having that come back and bite me. Yeah, you got questions and you want answers, 'Yeah, come ask me, man.'" Advertisement Flacco isn't withholding information from his younger counterparts. This isn't the kind of adversarial relationship that defined the Green Bay Packers' transition two decades ago. But there's a difference between accepting one's fate as a backup and competing while teaching at the same time. Flacco would much prefer the latter. It seems the rest of the room is fine with that, too. 'It's a good, fun group. It's the offseason. Like, today, we had a 15-minute meeting, we're in there telling stories and laughing. You can tell, it's a bunch of guys that want to play football, but are also able to go in there and have fun.'
