Resident Evil Requiem will be Leon Kennedy's final game claims insider

Leon S. Kennedy will play a big role in the next Resident Evil according to an insider, and will also feature open world areas with a vehicle.
Capcom officially unveiled Resident Evil Requiem at Summer Game Fest earlier this year, where they debuted a new protagonist in the form of FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft.
While the developer has shared little else about the sequel, aside from the ability to switch between first and third person perspectives, rumours prior to the announcement claimed Leon S. Kennedy would feature in some capacity.
Capcom has not officially said Leon will make an appearance (and even appeared to rule him out entirely), but a prominent insider has now gone one step further – claiming the upcoming sequel will represent a final bow for the character.
Insider Dusk Golem, who is known for Resident Evil leaks, posted a series of tweets about Resident Evil Requiem on X. In these posts, he claims the next instalment 'is supposed to be Leon's last major role in the timeline'.
'Leon and Grace are the main protagonists of Resident Evil Requiem, yes,' they added. 'I am repeating myself a bit there, but will end up being the case. Both play big roles, but I think when all is said and done, this in many ways will come off more as Leon's send-off game.'
Dusk Golem later clarified he doesn't know how Resident Evil Requiem will end, or Leon's fate, but rather the 'circumstance surrounding' his inclusion. 'Hell, I could see the end being Leon being all, 'I'm getting too old for this and have earned my retirement' after the events of Resident Evil 9,' they speculate.

While it's worth taking this with a pinch of salt, timeline wise, it lines up with what we know about Resident Evil Requiem. The sequel is set 30 years after Raccoon City's destruction in Resident Evil 3. Leon first debuted in Resident Evil 2, which takes place at the same time, where he's 21 years-old.
A 30-year time jump from these events would mean Leon, if he does appear, will be 51 years-old in Resident Evil Requiem. While not exactly retirement age, he's probably seen enough zombie shenanigans to warrant an early exit.
There's already precedent for older versions of original characters popping up in Resident Evil. In the last mainline instalment, Resident Evil Village, original protagonist Chris Redfield shows up, where he's 48 years-old.
Leon is four years younger than Chris, putting the latter potentially at 55 in the events of Resident Evil Requiem, so there's a chance the next game could represent a retirement of the old guard across the board. Outside of Chris, the last time the bulk of the main cast appeared in a mainline title was 2012's Resident Evil 6.
Jill Valentine was rumoured to be part of early plans for Resident Evil 9 but Dusk Golem makes no mention of her playing a role in Requiem. There's also no mention of teenager Rose Winters, which the ending of Village implied would play an active part in future games. Although those plans may also have changed over time.
Beyond the story, Dusk Golem has claimed there'll be several 'innovations' gameplay-wise in the next instalment. These include 'good performance on open level designed areas like Raccoon City', which will feature a 'vehicle to travel around it'.
This wouldn't be entirely new for the series, as it sounds similar to the open area boat sequence in Resident Evil 5 and the Resident Evil 4 remake, although those were quite limited.
'The combat with Leon has seen huge innovations, honestly some Last Of Us Part 2-isms, but also its own innovations,' they added.
On the remake side, Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil: Code Veronica are expected to be the next titles due for a makeover. According to Dusk Golem, the former received 'some form of reboot in development' late last year, although it's unclear how significant the changes are. More Trending
It's claimed these titles are scheduled to release in 2027 and 2028, but it's unclear which one will arrive first (he previously said it would be Zero).
Beyond these titles, they claim the next 'big budget' Resident Evil game, which is not a remake or spin-off, will launch in 2029/2030.
If you're simply after more information on Resident Evil Requiem, the same leaker states the title will be shown next at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, before it makes an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show in September.
Earlier this year, Capcom confirmed Resident Evil Requiem began life as an online open world game, but these plans were (thankfully) dropped.

Battlefield 6 players get free gift if they cause $1 trillion of damage in beta

EA has set Battlefield 6 players an explosive challenge in the open beta, depending on exactly how much property damage they cause. Battlefield 6's second open beta officially went live on Thursday, adding an additional map called Empire State and two new modes in Rush and Squad Deathmatch. The beta is set to run until Sunday, August 18 at 9am BST, and developer EA has leaned into the franchise's appetite for destruction via a new challenge for players. If players around the world manage to collectively cause $1 trillion worth of damage in the Battlefield 6 beta, everyone who participated will receive a Destruction weapon skin for the M60 machine gun when the full game launches on October 10, 2025. At the time of writing, the total amount of financial damage is just over $100 billion, a figure carried over from the first beta, so players have a lot to demolish over the next two days if they want to claim their prize. If you want to see how much you've individually contributed to the desecration of virtual architecture, EA has a way so players can see their specific 'destruction receipt' too. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. In order to access the results of your destruction, you first have to take part in some obligatory social engagement. You can find a breakdown of the steps below. Blow up stuff in the Battlefield 6 beta. Post a gameplay video of your destruction on X or Instagram with #BF6Receipts and @battlefield mentioned in the post. Within 24 hours, your receipt will be added to the online leaderboard here, where you can search for your username and find your total. So what's the best way to cause the most destruction? While you can rack up damage by hopping in vehicles and unloading at buildings, character class wise you're best to pick the Engineer, who comes with a rocket launcher and mines as side weapons. While the jury is out on whether Battlefield 6 will threaten Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, the latter's release date is a whole month later according to a recent leak. Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 will be missing one key feature

Gearbox has confirmed Borderlands 4 on the Nintendo Switch 2 will come with a number of downgrades in comparison to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. With the console's more powerful specifications, there was a hope the Nintendo Switch 2 would have greater feature parity when it comes to third party multiplatform games. And that is the case, but only up to a point. While there have been some impressive ports so far, especially Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, the biggest test is how current generation titles across the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S run on the hardware. Star Wars Outlaws looks set to be the first test subject, which is set to launch September 4 on the Switch 2. The second will be Borderlands 4, which is due to hit Nintendo's system three weeks after the other versions, on October 3, 2025. While the reasons behind the slight delay are unclear, all signs suggest developer Gearbox has had some trouble getting it to run on Switch 2 the same way as it does on the other consoles. Gearbox president Randy Pitchford previously confirmed the Switch 2 version will not support 60fps like other platforms. 'It was important to us to not cut anything and to support cross-play across other platforms,' Pitchford posted on X when asked about the frame rate on Switch 2. 'So, no. It'll be mostly around 30fps, with some dips in some intense moments heavy combats or if hosting a multiplayer game in handheld mode.' But in the official FAQ for Borderlands 4, fans have spotted another caveat specific to the Switch 2 version, namely that it won't support split-screen co-op. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. 'Switch 2 players will have the same exciting Borderlands 4 experience as other platforms minus the split-screen option, and yes, it will have full cross-play with Epic, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S,' the website reads. More Trending Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2 will also have full mouse support, making it one of the first online shooters to support the new Joy-Cons in that way. For anyone who played Borderlands 3 on the original Switch, this might not come as a surprise. That also had local co-op removed but it didn't support crossplay for online co-op either – so Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 does have the latter, at least. While some level of compromise is to be expected considering the Switch 2 is less powerful than the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it's still a disappointing sign that the console might continue to have noticeably worse versions of third party titles. For now, the most bankable Switch 2 ports might be titles which were released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, such as Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Persona 3 Reload, which are all set to launch on Nintendo's console in the near future – although only Persona has a release date so far, on October 23. Battlefield 6 second beta has more bugs than the first one say fans

EA has acknowledged there are certain problems with Battlefield 6's second beta, with some claiming it's buggier than the first one. While it's still too early to gauge Battlefield 6's success, especially since the game's not due until October and is competing against Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, first impressions have been overall positive. The first open beta, in particular, was a huge hit, attracting more players than Call Of Duty. While the initial beta wrapped up this past weekend, a second one has already begun and includes a new map and gameplay modes to warrant a revisit. Unfortunately, this second beta risks losing some of the goodwill the first one created, since there are reports of players encountering multiple issues, both on PC and consoles. EA has acknowledged the beta is suffering from matchmaking problems at the moment, and is promising to have these resolved ASAP, according to the official Battlefield Reddit account. 'The team is aware of ongoing matchmaking issues for some of our players when attempting to matchmake on playlists. We're actively investigating this and working towards a solve as soon as possible,' it reads. In a follow-up comment, EA has advised you 'ensure that you have the most recent client update' or try using the repair functionality if you're trying to access the beta through the EA app. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. There are also reports of DLSS and DLAA not working either, but EA believes it's figured out what's causing this and should have it resolved later today. If you missed the first beta and fancy playing the second one, doing so is very simple. It's freely available to download via Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox store with no code or special access required. Just go to the online stores and search for Battlefield 6, and you'll find it available to download, as if it was an ordinary free-to-play game. The easier access is obvious a benefit, but it sounds like the beta has more issues besides matchmaking not working properly. A quick look through the Battlefield 6 subreddit brings up multiple threads from players suffering from crashes or struggling to get the beta working in the first place. It's already claimed that it's buggier than the first beta, with a handful of players reporting instances of losing health when switching classes and instantly dying with nothing to indicate they were even hit. More Trending If the current player numbers on Steam are anything to go by, though, these issues may not be too widespread. At the time of writing, there are roughly 367,000 people playing the beta according to SteamDB. Those numbers aren't as high as the 500,000+ it enjoyed last weekend, but it's not too significant of a drop and can be justified by it being a Thursday afternoon (or morning from a US perspective). So, things will likely jump up once the weekend hits. Hopefully, there won't be as many cheaters plaguing the beta this week either. It wasn't a good look for EA considering it's implementing brand new anti-cheat software. That said, those instances have ideally helped improve the software, with EA claiming it has successfully prevented at least 330,000 cheating attempts.
