Man re-arrested on child pornography charges at Winnipeg air force base
The 31-year-old was re-arrested Wednesday after police searched a residence at 17 Wing, a Royal Canadian Air Force Base in west Winnipeg, police said in a news release. Multiple electronic devices were seized during the search.
He now faces more charges of accessing child pornography and possession of child pornography, as well as seven counts of failure to comply with a release order.
The man had been arrested at the base on April 16, following a child pornography investigation.
He was accused of photographing an undressed child he knew and uploading the images to social media between May 2018 and April 2019. The man allegedly persuaded the child to engage in sexual activity in 2020.
Winnipeg police told CBC News at that point the 31-year-old was not a civilian.
He was released under conditions that included not accessing the internet or having access to anyone under 18 years old.
Police said they are not naming the man in order to protect the identity of the youth involved.

2 mayors arrested in southern Turkey as part of crackdown on opposition
ISTANBUL (AP) — The mayors of two major cities in southern Turkey were arrested Saturday, state-run media reported, joining a growing list of opposition figures detained since the mayor of Istanbul was imprisoned in March. Abdurrahman Tutdere, the mayor of Adiyaman, and Zeydan Karalar, who heads Adana municipality, were detained in early morning raids, according to Anadolu Agency. Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, widely considered the main challenger to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan 's 22-year rule, was jailed four months ago over corruption allegations. The former CHP mayor of Izmir, Turkey's third-largest city, and 137 municipal officials were detained earlier this week as part of an investigation into alleged tender-rigging and fraud. On Friday, ex-mayor Tunc Soyer and 59 others were jailed pending trial in what Soyer's lawyer described as 'a clearly unjust, unlawful and politically motivated decision.' Also Friday, it was reported by state-run media that the CHP mayor of Manavgat, a Mediterranean resort city in Antalya province, and 34 others were detained over alleged corruption. CHP officials have faced waves of arrests this year that many consider aimed at neutralizing Turkey's main opposition party. The government insists prosecutors and the judiciary act independently but the arrest of Istanbul's Imamoglu led to the largest street protests Turkey has seen in more than a decade. Imamoglu was officially nominated as his party's presidential candidate following his imprisonment. Turkey's next election is due in 2028 but could come sooner. The crackdown comes a year after the CHP made significant gains in local elections. Adiyaman, which was severely affected by the 2023 earthquake, was among several cities previously considered strongholds for Erdogan to fall to the opposition.

Bodies found in unit in coastal town
Two men have been found dead inside a unit on the Sunshine Coast, with police appealing to the public for assistance in their investigation. Emergency services were called to the Kingsford Smith Parade housing complex in Maroochydore at about 11.20am on Friday, after concerns were raised for their welfare. Officers located the bodies of two men inside. It is understood the 65-year-old Maroochydore man lived at the property, and the 56-year-old man from Mountain Creek was a regular visitor. The unit has been declared a crime scene. Forensic officers and detectives remained at the complex on Saturday morning as investigations into the circumstances of the deaths continued. The exact cause of death is unknown, and police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities are now urging anyone with information or relevant CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation. Jacob Arthur Amos told the Sunshine Coast Daily he had tried to check in on his 'good mate' on Saturday morning. 'He wasn't answering his door, and now we know why,' he said.

Man dies after being found in street
A man has died after being found with serious injuries on a suburban street in Perth's east, with an 18-year-old now charged with his murder. The man, 33, was found at the corner of the Great Northern Highway and Margaret St in Midland at about 5pm on Thursday. He was rushed to St John of God Midland Hospital, but later died. After days of investigation, WA Police confirmed on Saturday that an 18-year-old had been charged with the man's murder. He was due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday. Witnesses described the harrowing scene earlier this week, claiming the man's loved ones watched on as paramedics tried to save him. 'It was awful watching her,' one witness told 9News. 'She went from disbelief to shock, to distraught. My heart was breaking for her.' A second crime scene was established a few hundred metres away at a property on Dudley Str, where neighbours reported hearing a commotion at the same time.
