Kaizer Chiefs rumours: Mama Joy in the news, star owes SARS R6 million

This morning's Kaizer Chiefs news wrap has a nice little Mama Joy anecdote and a huge SARS bill for a star midfielder.
Gaston Sirino is in hot water with the South African Revenue Services.
Monnapule Saleng is a forgotten figure but Pirates need to find a buyer.
Mayele will only come to South Africa for 'Amapiano and a holiday'
Nobody has ever questioned the loyalty of Kaizer Chiefs fans. Just look at the continuous disappointments they have faced, and they just keep getting back up off the ground. Could Mama Joy become the latest Chiefs 'Super Fan' to keep morale in the stadium up? We've seen this suggestion more than once this week in our comments sections. Mama Joy doing what she does best. After Pirates hesitated to sell Monnapule Saleng, and with all possible suitors knowing he's unhappy at the club, that will certainly drive his price down. Pirates' bargaining position is significantly weakened. Can they still sell the mercurial winger to a South African side?

Eben Etzebeth: Injury woes a thing of the past

When it comes to injuries, the 2025 season has been one to forget for Eben Etzebeth, who missed a large part of the Sharks' URC and Champions Cup campaigns for a variety of reasons. Besides an extended absence due to concussion and subsequent symptoms, the big lock strained his hamstring during a Springbok alignment camp in March, and was also ruled out of the Sharks' URC semi-final after a training ground injury. However, Etzebeth is now back with the Springboks, and he believes the extended rest could actually serve him well as the international season rolls around. 'I've recovered from everything now,' Etzebeth told the media in Johannesburg on Wednesday. 'Obviously, I didn't have the best run – the concussion and injury kept me out for about four, four-and-a-half months, which wasn't ideal. Then I had a minor setback just before the URC semi-final, but I'm fully back in training and very excited for the rest of the season. 'As you get older, it (injuries) does take a bigger toll on your body. Of course, I would've liked to play more this season, but the time off has helped me rest and recover,' he added. 'You don't just sit around – you rehab, work on areas that have been troubling you. You get your whole body strong again. So, while not playing is frustrating, there are positives like getting the body right and spending time with family.' There is no doubt that the Springbok coaches will be intent on ensuring they manage the game-time and conditioning of Etzebeth to see him through to the 2027 World Cup. The 33-year-old currently has 131 Test caps to his name, and clearly has no plans of slowing down. 'The day I can't play for the Boks anymore will be a very sad day for me,' he stated. 'There's no better feeling than running out in a full stadium in South Africa – Loftus, Cape Town, wherever – with 50,000 people behind you. It's incredibly special, and it motivates me every time.' 'Productive' Thembinkosi Lorch earns praise despite loss to Manchester City

Manchester City defender Vitor Reis tries to get the ball off Wydad Casablanca's South African forward Thembinkosi Lorch during the FIFA Club World Cup Group G match. Image: FRANCK FIFE / AFP Former Orlando Pirates forward Thembinkosi Lorch has been lauded for his industrious performance for Wydad Athletic Club in their FIFA Club World Cup match against Premier League giants Manchester City. Phil Foden scored inside two minutes and wing Jeremy Doku was also on target as Manchester City cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win in their opening match. But it was South African Lorch who ended up being the talk of the town. The clash against City was always going to be a big ask for Wydad, whose coach Amine Benhachem was only appointed in the run-up to the Club World Cup after replacing former Mamelodi Sundowns boss Rhulani Mokwena. However, they showed some spirit, led by a lively display from Lorch up front Video Player is loading. When new Man City signing Rayan Cherki gave the ball away cheaply, Lorch produced an audacious attempt to beat Ederson from inside his own half. However, the Brazilian goalkeeper made the save. Lorch set up fellow South African Cassius Mailula after some skilful play, but the former Sundowns man squandered the opportunity. After the match, former Bafana Bafana stars and SuperSport pundits Shaun Bartlett and Bongani Khumalo praised Lorch's performance against such formidable opponents. "He had quite a productive day on the field. I was quite disappointed when they took him off, obviously managing him as a player," Bartlett said during SuperSport TV's live broadcast.

With an enticing prize pot sponsored by the Sovereign Group and Holborn Investments – R20 000 for first place, R10 000 for second and R6 000 for third – the competition was as fierce as it was festive. A total of 28 sides battled it out over a demanding five-game format – three 15-end games on Saturday, followed by another 15-end game and a longer 18-end decider on Sunday. The greens were awash with colour and flair as teams donned matching shirts, suggesting that fashion is becoming an exciting new feature of sponsored bowling events. The lively atmosphere and visual spectacle only added to the buzz of the weekend. Topping the podium was the formidable foursome of Glenda Matthews, Susan Nel, Linda Didlick and Kim Christensen, whose strategic play and consistent performance earned them the R20 000 first prize. Hot on their heels were Hillary's Bridget White, Talia Russon, Aileen Ramsden and Linda Meyer taking second place, while the Hillcrest team of Jill Buzzard, Stella Tweedie, Claire Murray and Rowena Wepener rounded out the top three. 'This is always a wonderful tournament,' she said. 'There's tough competition, great friendships and it's a pleasure to be part of something so well-run. Hats off to Umhlanga Bowling Club and their generous sponsors.' Many participants echoed her sentiments, offering glowing feedback. Some described the club as stunning, the facilities as top-class and the atmosphere as exceptionally friendly and welcoming.
