The internet adores Sofia Richie's new bob – here's exactly what to ask a hairdresser

Independent27-06-2025
In this week's beauty news, Sofia Richie-Grainge has gone for the big chop, taking her chest-length locks up to her chin thanks to hair stylist George Curran. The model and social media personality brought her fans along for the haircut at her Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc wedding venue, posting a five-minute video of the process on TikTok (@sofiagrainge).
Describing her decision to viewers, she explains, 'I did one too many keratin treatments on my hair and, over the past six months, I've just been cutting at it and cutting at it hoping I could get this dead [hair] away – and it's just not going away.
'I know what I have to do to make this hair healthy again: it's to start over, so we're cutting a bob.'
The result? A flicky, French bob – which Richie-Grainge has playfully dubbed her 'Cap Du Bob' – with face framing and blunt ends towards the rear. But when you're heading into a salon for such a drastic cut, you need a step-by-step guide. So we reached out to industry professional Samantha Cusick for the instructions to give your hairdresser, and found out her key bob maintenance tips.
Expert hairdresser Samantha Cusick has styled influencers Zoe Sugg and Summer Fox, so we're in pretty good hands. She says, 'If you're after the Sofia Richie bob, ask your stylist for a classic above the shoulder (but below the chin), one length cut with subtle shaping through the front to frame the face.'
'The key to this look is that clean, French-girl finish with just enough bounce and polish to make it feel expensive but effortless,' she added.
But despite thousands of positive comments, the haircut has proven surprisingly divisive. Several videos have been posted in response to Richie-Grainge's video declaring that women should 'not get the Sofia Richie bob.' One user even went viral after pointing out that Richie-Grainge will 'have licensed professionals on-hand' to tend to her hair in the months after the chop, which is unobtainable for most people.
Maintenance is key if you've been inspired to get the same style. Cusick recommends the Ghd duet blowdry (£239.20, Boots.com). '[It's] a dream,' she explained, 'it takes the hair from wet to dry while smoothing and adding volume, so you get that signature bouncy texture in one step.'
For topical products, it came as no surprise to hear that Cusick's an Olaplex fan. 'To lock in shine, use a drop of Olaplex No.7 bonding oil (£19.55, Spacenk.com) on the ends,' she described, elaborating to tell us how it imbues the strands with a luxuriously healthy and glossy glow.
Finally, she looks to in-salon brand Authentic Beauty Concept: 'Finish with a mist of the airy texture spray (£25.75, Northlainehairco.co.uk)for soft hold and a bit of movement – you want it to feel touchable and undone, not overly stiff or styled.'
Cusick also advises regular trims to keep your bob looking fresh and hammered home some age-old advice, warning 'do not skip heat protection to maintain that silky, healthy finish.'

Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet's 40 days apart EXPLAINED as rumors persist they are over

has not been seen with her Hollywood boyfriend Timothee Chalamet in over five weeks. The last time the dynamic duo were spied side-by-side was on July 5 when they were in St Tropez, France during a yacht vacation. Since then the 27-year-old billionaire has been spotted having fun with friends like Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber as well as sister Kendall Jenner over red wine and vodka martinis in Los Angeles. The California-based cosmetics mogul has also been flashing her generous cleavage and toned tummy in sexy bra-top outfits on Instagram. Fans have wondered if the brunette bombshell and Oscar nominee have parted ways after two-and-a-half years together. But the Daily Mail can explain their distance. Turns out Chalamet has been filming his next project, Dune: Messiah, in Hungary. The New Yorker plays the character Paul Atreides in the third installment of the Dune movie franchise. 'Timothee is busy making a movie and the schedule is grueling because he is in so many scenes, he is the star,' said a source. 'So he has to be very focused and together to do his best work.' Jenner gives him all the support he needs, added the source. 'She helps him out as much as she can, like give him space to work and have her private jet on standby in case he needs to go somewhere fast,' said the source. 'Kylie is a good girlfriend to him. She is always there and wants him to be happy, and if that means he has to be overseas for a few months, she is OK with it, she will wait. She also secretly jets off to see him when she can. 'Of course she misses her man and her heart hurts when he is not near, but she makes it work.' There has been shooting in Budapest for the third Dune film. Chalamet's costars are Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Robert Pattinson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Florence Pugh and Jason Momoa. Dune Messia is being shot entirely with IMAX cameras and will be in theatres on December 16, 2026. The IMDB logline for the film is brief: 'The film follows Muad'dib, heir to unimaginable power, as he brings to fruition the ancient scheme to create a superbeing ruler among men, not in the heavens.' Dune Messiah is a 1969 science fiction novel by American writer Frank Herbert, the second in his Dune series of six novels. A sequel to Dune, it was originally serialized in Galaxy magazine in 1969, and then published by Putnam the same year. Jenner and Chalamet started dating in January 2023, were rumored to be an item in April 2023 and then they went public with their romance in September 2023. Their first red carpet together was at the 70th David Di Donatello event at Cinecitta Studios in Rome, Italy on May 7, 2025. In early July Jenner started following Chalamet on Instagram. The businesswoman boasts almost 400million followers on the photo-sharing site, but she is quite choosy about who she follows, with only 119 profiles making the cut. However, one of those is now her boyfriend of two years. Fans of TyMothée - the pair's most popular ship name - have been driven into a frenzy after spotting Kylie has allowed the A Complete Unknown actor into her close social circle. However, at the time of writing, the follow is yet to be reciprocated. The 29-year-old actor has 19.7 million Instagram followers, and has only shared 147 posts, compared with Kylie's whopping 7,244 posts. But the Kardashians star shouldn't feel snubbed because he doesn't follow anybody on Instagram. That's including his ex-girlfriend Eiza Gonzalez, who recently admitted she is 'obsessed' by his new romance with reality star Kylie. During an appearance in Cosmopolitan magazine's online video series Cheap Shots, Eiza explained: 'They look so cute together. They look so in love and so cute, I'm obsessed with them, and I love Timmy.' She added of the Dune star: 'I think he's the most talented, sweetest - honestly, sweetest boy - and I'm just so proud to see him thriving and doing great in his career, and we're just good friends. 'I have nothing but amazing things to say about him.' Chalamet has been romancing Kylie - who is mom to Stormi, seven, and three-year-old Aire with ex-boyfriend Travis Scott - since April 2023, and their relationship has won the seal of approval from Timothee's mother Nicole Flender. The real estate agent told Curbed: 'I have to say she's lovely. She's very nice to me.'

Tyson Fury and family in ‘terrifying' plane scare hours after wedding

Tyson Fury and his family were left 'terrified' after their private jet was forced to turn around and make an emergency landing just hours after the boxer renewed his vows to wife Paris. Posting on Instagram on Wednesday (13 August), the 37-year-old said he was 'totally sh***** himself' when he was told by the captain that there was a problem with one of the wings. 'We've travelled 100 miles on the plane and the captain's come over to me and said, 'we've got to turn this plane around,'' explaining that the wing 'wouldn't fix on the computer'. Hours earlier, Tyson and Paris got married for the third time in a luxurious ceremony in the south of France, attended only by the couple and their children.

Murrayfield anthem mix-up that sparked worldwide stadium trend recalled

Scottish Rugby has revealed the singing of an a cappella second verse of Flower Of Scotland at international matches began with a 'mistake' that initially led one member of staff to fear she would lose her job. On the 100th anniversary of Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Scottish Rugby explained that what has now become a worldwide stadium trend began with a mix-up between event organisers and musicians ahead of a 2008 Six Nations clash between Scotland and France. Scottish Rugby events lead Julie Beels, who was then working as a freelance entertainment producer at the stadium, said the misunderstanding which led the pipe band to stop playing mid-way through the anthem happened during a sound check ahead of the match. 'It's funny to look back on now, but at the time I thought I'd lose my job,' the 39-year-old said. 'We'd only played both verses before, and at the sound check the pipe band asked if we wanted it once or twice and I said, 'Once is fine – it's only the sound checks'. I thought they knew we'd play both verses for real ahead of the match. 'Minutes later, the pipers stopped playing after the first verse of the anthem and my heart just sank. There I was, in front of 67,000 people, thinking, 'That's it. I'm done'. 'But the crowd just kept singing – louder and louder – completely unaccompanied. It gave me goosebumps. From there, it grew a special following. 'Scotland has never had an anthem singer because at Scottish Gas Murrayfield the crowd is the singer. It reached a new level that day.' Ms Beels, who was 21 at the time, added: 'It could – and probably should – have been the worst moment of my career, but instead it's the highlight. 'It's amazing the way it's now done around the world, but I can't help but think 'hey – that's our thing'.' The anthem did not inspire a win that day – a Jason White-skippered Scotland fell 27-6 to Les Bleus – but the atmosphere it created proved unforgettable. PA Media Chris Paterson, centre, said the anthem that day had been 'special'. Initially the a cappella version was kept only for major games with sell-out crowds, but it has now become a permanent fixture at the ground, with visiting teams and even football crowds adopting the idea. Videos of the Murrayfield anthem have become an online sensation, racking up millions of views on sites like YouTube. The idea has also been replicated in sports around the world, from Major League Baseball to the Kentucky Derby. Scotland record points-scorer Chris Paterson, who was part of the squad that day, said it had been a 'special' moment. 'The game was pretty forgettable, but the memory of the anthem that day is still vivid,' he said. 'I can remember initially thinking it must be a mistake and being a bit confused, but as we sang through the second verse the noise rose and the connection with those in the stadium grew. 'I then assumed it must have been deliberate. Whether you're a player, coach, fan, or watching at home – it's special. It's an amazing part of what it means to be part of Scottish rugby. 'It always makes me smile when I see and hear it done at other events and venues across the world.' Scottish Rugby is calling on supporters to share their memories of the national stadium to mark its centenary, which will be celebrated during this year's Quilter Nations Series. Scotland will face the USA, New Zealand, Argentina and Tonga on consecutive weekends, with the All Blacks clash on Saturday November 8 being earmarked as the centenary test. Mark Laidlaw, Scottish Rugby's director of stadium development and operations, said: 'Scottish Gas Murrayfield has been the backdrop to so many iconic moments – from Calcutta Cup triumphs and Grand Slam glory to unforgettable gigs by Oasis, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Taylor Swift and more. 'We want to hear from the millions of people who've helped make the stadium what it is over the past 100 years – whether it's a historic win or the concert you waited 30 years to see.'
