Public Warned Against Fake 'Datuk Seri' Titles Used In Investment Scams
He said one of the reports involved a man falsely claiming to be an 'Ahli Istana Anak Angkat' to gain the trust of victims and solicit investments, including a case where a Datin lost RM400,000.
'We've checked with the Istana and there is no such title. It's completely fabricated,' he told a press conference at Wisma MCA here today.
Chong said three of the six cases were business-related scams while the others were enquiries — some from overseas — to verify the legitimacy of individuals claiming to hold honorific titles.
He added that the scammer had exploited public events and official functions by placing his name and image among VIPs and ministers to boost credibility.
Meanwhile, Majlis Datuk Persekutuan Malaysia (MDPM) president Datuk Alvin Tee Guan Pian reminded the public that federal titles were only awarded to those who had made significant contributions to the nation.
'Fake titleholders often use these credentials to secure business deals and contracts. The Securities Commission takes illegal investment schemes seriously, and offenders can be charged in court,' he said.
Separately, the President of Majlis Datuk Dato' Malaysia (MDDM), Datuk Samson David Maman, has urged the relevant parties to expedite proposed amendments to the Awards Act 2017 (Act 787) to curb the misuse of honorific titles.
"It's going internally. But we know there are many proposed amendments across various acts. Ours is just one of them. Time will come when we are on the priority list,' he said at the same press conference.

GOF seizes 14 goats, 190kg of ketum in Kelantan raids
PASIR MAS: The General Operations Force (GOF) has seized 14 goats and 190kg of ketum leaves, with a combined estimated value of over RM18,000, in two separate operations carried out here and in Tanah Merah. GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said two local men were arrested in connection with the possession of the livestock and the ketum leaves. He said both seizures were made under Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan, which took place on Monday and last night. In the first operation, members of the 7th Battalion spotted a suspicious vehicle at Chabang Empat Tendong in Pasir Mas at around 7pm yesterday. "Upon inspection, GOF personnel found 14 goats cramped in the rear of the vehicle. "The 41-year-old driver failed to produce any documentation for the animals, which are believed to have been intended for sale on the local market. The estimated value of the seizure is RM10,500," he said. The case has been referred to the Kelantan Veterinary Department for further action under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953. In a separate case, Ros Azhan said GOF personnel discovered several packages of ketum leaves in a vehicle. "The car was stopped as it passed through Kampung Bechah Butir Nangka in Tanah Merah at around 9am on Monday. Inside, the personnel found 19 black plastic packages containing 190kg of ketum leaves. The driver was also detained. "The seizure, valued at about RM7,600, has been handed over to the Tanah Merah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

Palm Oil Exports To The US Rise 51.8 Pct To 93,000 Tonnes For January To May 2025 -- KPK
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's palm oil exports to the United States (US) increased by 51.8 per cent to 93,000 metric tonnes from January to May 2025, compared to 61,000 metric tonnes during the same period last year. The Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) said that 65 per cent of the nation's palm oil exports to the US in 2024 were certified sustainable products used in high-value goods, while another 19 per cent consisted of palm stearin, a key ingredient in the food and personal care industries. Although the US is not Malaysia's main export market for palm oil, the ministry emphasised that the government is paying attention to the 25 per cent tariff imposed by the US on Malaysian goods, which takes effect on Aug 1, 2025, to ensure that the country's market position is not adversely affected. 'The ministry is always vigilant and proactive in monitoring developments in international trade policies to safeguard the country's palm oil exports,' KPK said in a written response posted on the Parliament's website today. KPK was responding to Datuk Siti Aminah Aching (BN-Beaufort), who inquired about the impact of the 25 per cent tariff imposed by the US on Malaysia, its effect on global demand for Malaysian palm oil, and the ministry's efforts to mitigate any negative consequences on exports. The ministry highlighted that together with the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), it is continuing to engage in ongoing negotiations with the US to ensure fair, open, and mutually beneficial trade relations. It added that various integrated initiatives are underway to ensure that Malaysia's palm oil exports remain unaffected and sustainable. 'These include promoting the transformation of the palm oil sector toward high-technology downstream products such as oleochemicals, processed food ingredients, and biofuels,' it said. KPK said it is strengthening efforts to implement the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) 2.0 certification to ensure Malaysian palm oil meets international standards, particularly in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects.

Felda Launches Mobile App To Drive Digital Transformation, Strengthen Governance
KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) today launched its new mobile app, MyFelda, in a strategic collaboration with its subsidiary FGV Prodata Systems Bhd, to accelerate the agency's digital transformation and enhance governance, transparency, and inclusivity within the settler community. FGV Prodata chief executive officer Shamsuri Jasri Abdul Rahman said the app goes beyond being just an information platform; it is also a key driver in modernising and digitising the entire Felda ecosystem. 'MyFelda is designed based on the principle of 'Role-Based Access', ensuring that each user group, be it settlers, staff, or vendors, receives customised, organised and secure access tailored to their specific needs,' he said at the launch. The app is also integrated with the Smart Plantation Management System (SPMS), which leverages technologies such as drones, geographic information systems and artificial intelligence to strengthen oil palm estate management. 'Through SPMS, we can collect accurate field data to analyse plant health, identify vacant or affected areas, plan targeted fertilisation and disease control activities, as well as improve overall operational efficiency,' he said. Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek officiated the launch of the MyFelda mobile app at an event attended by Felda's senior management, settler representatives and strategic technology partners. Meanwhile, Felda's director of Administration and Information Technology, Afzal Hanis Hamid Abd, said the app was developed to provide settlers with reliable, up-to-date information at their fingertips. 'With this app, settlers no longer need to visit the office to obtain income statements or account details. Everything from plantation information and financial statements to loan records and current yield data is now easily accessible through their phones,' he told Bernama. Afzal Hanis added that one of the app's key strengths is its 'single source of truth' approach, where all information is consolidated from Felda's official systems to eliminate discrepancies and ensure data integrity.
