ReNew Power to set up renewable energy complex in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district

The Hindu14-05-2025

ReNew Power, a Renewable Energy (RE) company, is investing about ₹22,000 crore in what it claims to be the country's largest single-site RE complex coming up at Bethapalle village in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the project is scheduled on May 16. IT & HRD Minister Nara Lokesh will be participating in it, thereby giving a big boost to the State's RE landscape.
ReNew was the largest RE investor in Andhra Pradesh six years ago, that is, in 2019 with an installed capacity of 777 MW but it had suspended its expansion plans owing to the cancellation of Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) by the YSR Congress Party government.
The company's re-entry into Andhra Pradesh now reflects the investor confidence in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, and the above project is the first major one being grounded after the State's Integrated Clean Energy Policy (ICEP) came into force in October 2024.
The breakthrough came after Mr. Lokesh's meeting with ReNew chairman Sumant Sinha on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum held at Davos (Switzerland). The project at Bethapalle, which is situated in Guntakal Assembly constituency, would have 587 MW solar and 250 MW wind capacities in addition to a 415 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Phase-I, whose total cost is pegged at ₹7,000 crore.
The cumulative capacity in all phases would be 1,800 MW peak of solar, 1 GW wind and 2,000 MWh BESS with an aggregate investment of ₹22,000 crore. The project aligns with Andhra Pradesh's ambitious target of 72 GW renewable energy capacity by 2029 as announced at RE Invest 2024.
It was stated that in the last eight months, there were major clean energy investments by Tata Power — ₹49,000 crore (7,000 MW), NTPC — ₹1.86 lakh crore (green hydrogen project), Vedanta's Serentica — ₹50,000 crore (10,000 MW), Brookfield — ₹50,000 crore (8,000 MW), and SAEL — ₹6,000 crore (1,200 MW).

CAG figures paint a disturbing picture of Andhra Pradesh's finances, says YSRCP president Jagan

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that the monthly key indicators released by the Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) for April 2025 bring to light a 'very disturbing picture' of the State's finances. The government claimed on May 1 that the net GST collections for April 2025 were the highest since the introduction of GST at ₹3,354 crore, whereas, technically, the net GST would be subsequent to the making of all adjustments, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said. In fact, as per the CAG figures, the State GST revenues for the first month of FY 2025-26 had contracted to 24.20% when compared with that of April 2024, he said. The government also said the GST revenues were at a record high even in May. It was mentioned in a government release that in April 2025, the Centre had deducted ₹796 crore on account of adjustment of advance apportionment from Integrated GST (IGST) and because of it, GST revenues had come down. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that the advance apportionment of IGST would be accounted for under Minor Head 110 and was a part of SGST under Major Head 0006 of the government accounts. The net GST revenues would be arrived at after accounting for all the adjustments. Same was the case even in the previous years. The press release issued by the government on May 1 said that the net GST collections for April 2025 stood at ₹3,354 crore. Now, the government said a sum of ₹796 crore was adjusted. 'One can clearly understand from this that the government is covering up the sordid facts about the GST revenues,' he said. The CAG figures indicated that the trend of economic sluggishness was more pronounced during the first month of FY 2025-26, with the tax revenues registering a decline of 12.21% and non-tax revenues falling by 22.01% over April 2024, he added.

IndiGrid to acquire 300 MW solar project, transmission asset for ₹2,108 cr

The solar asset, Renew Solar Aayan Private Ltd (RSAPL), is a 300 MW (AC) operational project located in Barmer, Rajasthan, a region known for high solar irradiation Press Trust of India New Delhi IndiGrid on Saturday said it will acquire ReNew Solar Aayan, a 300 MW (AC) solar project, and Koppal Narendra Transmission in two separate transactions for about Rs 2,108 crore. Inclusive of the adjustments, the enterprise value will not exceed Rs 2,175 crore, a statement said. IndiGrid announced the execution of definitive agreements to acquire one solar and one transmission asset, aggregating to an enterprise value of approximately Rs 2,108 crore, excluding any net working capital and cash adjustments, it added. The solar asset, Renew Solar Aayan Private Ltd (RSAPL), is a 300 MW (AC) operational project located in Barmer, Rajasthan, a region known for high solar irradiation. The project has been operational since March 2024 and benefits from a long-term 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) at a fixed tariff of Rs 2.37 per unit. A 100 per cent subsidiary of ReNew Solar Power Private Limited, RSAPL's proximity to RSUPL an asset acquired by IndiGrid in 2024 offers strong operational synergies and strengthens the platform's presence in the renewable segment. The transmission asset, Koppal Narendra Transmission Limited (KNTL), is a Build-Own-Operate-Maintain (BOOM) Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project located in Karnataka. Operational since October 2023, KNTL comprises approximately 276 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 2,500 MVA of transformation capacity. The asset is jointly owned by ReNew Solar Power Private Limited (51 per cent) and KNI India (49 per cent), a joint venture between Norfund and KLP. With its location in a region witnessing rapid grid expansion, KNTL offers meaningful long-term augmentation potential for IndiGrid. Subject to regulatory and contractual approvals, IndiGrid will acquire 100 per cent shareholding and management control of both assets, in line with the provisions of the definitive and concession agreements and the power purchase agreement (PPA), including lock-in obligations therein, it stated. Harsh Shah, Managing Director of IndiGrid, said, "These acquisitions align with our long-term strategy to participate meaningfully in this transformation by owning and operating essential infrastructure that supports grid stability and energy access". This acquisition will be funded through a combination of equity, internal accruals, and debt, the statement said. The net debt/AUM will be 62 per cent post this acquisition, leaving adequate headroom for future growth, it added. Akshara Andhra program will be launched soon to achieve 100% literacy: Minister Nara Lokesh

VIJAYAWADA: HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh announced several landmark education initiatives and reforms, terming the ongoing Mega DSC for recruitment of 16,347 teachers a golden chapter in the State's history. He held a marathon 4-hour review meeting with senior officials from the departments of school, college and adult education at his residence in Undavalli on Friday. Lokesh congratulated officials for the smooth conduct of the first day of the Mega DSC when School Education Commissioner V Vijaya Rama Raju informed 88% attendance in the morning session of DSC, and 86% in the evening. 'From now on, DSCs will be conducted every year, and the Andhra Pradesh Model of Education will be fully realised in the next four years,' Lokesh said. He highlighted that 27,000 school assistants were transferred online, and over 4,000 promoted in a transparent and political interference-free process. Revealing a major new initiative, Lokesh said a special programme titled Akshara Andhra will be launched to achieve 100% literacy in the State. Shocked that 81 lakh people in the 15-59 age group are still illiterate, he said the adult education programme will be taken up in mission mode. 'In March, 3.95 lakh people were tested under the Ullas programme, and 90.12% passed. The State must rise from the bottom to become one of India's top three literate States within three years,' he asserted. Director of Intermediate Education Kritika Shukla raised concern that 109 of 247 sanctioned posts in the adult education department remain vacant. She recommended recruiting only motivated candidates from the school education system.
