David Gray says Hibernian's dramatic Partizan Belgrade win difficult to analyse
Kieron Bowie's 59th-minute wonder goal put the William Hill Premiership side back in front in the tie and they looked to be in full control when the visitors had Nikola Simic sent off shortly afterwards.
But Partizan struck deep into stoppage time to go 3-1 ahead on the night and force extra time, where Chris Cadden eventually landed the decisive blow of an exhilarating third qualifying round encounter to set up a play-off against Legia Warsaw.
'Trying to analyse that would be difficult, but ultimately it's a brilliant result,' said manager Gray.
'A brilliant performance for the players to come through that tie over two legs. One thing I did say to the players is that I massively played down the magnitude of the result in the away leg.
'We played it down knowing it was half-time in the tie, but over the course of it, again loads of things I'll need to analyse to make us better, but delighted for the players, delighted for everything that went with it.
'I think we fully deserve to be in the next round, so all in all, it's a fantastic night's work.'
Gray felt his side showed their mettle to recover from going 2-0 down in the first half.
'I actually thought we played really well in the first half, the shape was good and we created big chances within the game,' he added.
'Unfortunately, we didn't take our chances and then it's a couple of mistakes from Smudge, who didn't cover himself in glory, but the second one, there were elements of that, we can defend better.
'So we find ourselves 2-0 down, and the message at half-time was that this is a massive test of your character but I think we certainly came through that.'
Partizan coach Srdjan Blagojevic – whose side had a man sent off in both legs – said of Bowie's strike: 'It was a once-in-a-lifetime goal and it changed the momentum. The atmosphere was amazing.
'It was a big experience for my young team. It was a great game and it would not have been undeserved if Partizan was the team which qualified.
'I was proud of them for going so close to qualifying even though we played with 10 men for 120 minutes of the tie.'

Blaney keen to make up for lost time with Livi
Shane Blaney had injury troubles last season and he wants to put that behind them by staking a regular starting slot with Livingston. The Irishman came off the bench after 14 minutes to replace crocked Danny Wilson as Livingston beat Falkirk 3-1 in their first home match back in the William Hill Premiership last Saturday. On Sunday, it is near neighbours, Hibernian, who visit the Home of the Set Fare Arena, fresh from their aggregate victory over Partizan Belgrade in the UEFA Europa Conference League after extra time at Easter Road on a heady night before over 19,000 fans on Thursday. Livingston have had an entire week to prepare and 26-year-old Blaney feels that the West Lothian combine are coming off a good result against The Bairns. The Letterkenny-born, central defender is looking forward to Sunday's clash with Hibs in the Premier Sports Cup and said: 'We are taking it game by game. You can't get ahead of yourself, every team is very good so we need to be ready for Sunday and treat it right. 'Hibs have been looking good this year. It will be a really tough game, but we are a good team as well and we have shown that so far.' The 6ft 3in player, who started his career with Finn Harps in 2017 and then moved to Doncaster Rovers before going on loan to Tamworth, Grantham Town and Blyth Spartans, is enjoying working with Livi boss David Martindale. Blaney, who has also played for Sligo Rovers and on 43 occasions for Motherwell, added that Livingston enjoyed a really positive pre-season and taken that into the league. The West Lothian club have also, he said, showed resilience, coming back from 2-0 down against Kilmarnock in their league opener at Rugby Park. He described Irish football as being similar to Scotland and added: 'Saturday's win (over Falkirk) was huge for us and it has all been good so far. We must make sure we play the way we want to play (against Hibs).' Martindale's men were promoted via the play-offs and Blaney said the gaffer wants his squad to carry on from that success. Looking back, Blaney said last season was 'really frustrating' through injury and he added: 'I have been out for a long time and the gaffer (Martindale) showed faith in me to sign and I want to play every game, the same as very player. I hope I can stay fit and healthy.' Like this: Like Related

'One of the most exciting nights at Easter Road in years'
We asked for your views on Hibs' pulsating extra-time win over Partizan Belgrade to reach the Conference League play-off are some of your comments:Gary: A bit like Tina Turner, Hibs don't like to do things easy, they like to do things hard!John: I need a lie down. If i was not already grey and balding I would be after last night. What a rollercoaster of a night, team spirt and never-say-die attitude, the boys showed great self belief. As for Kieron Bowie's goal, eat your heart out I'm glad Jordan Smith redeemed himself with some brilliant saves in the second half. Bowie and Josh Mulligan both outstanding, but all in all excellent Hibs who never gave up and ran themselves into the ground. They've made me proud yet Wowie Bowie, the guy is unplayable, and his special goal gave Hibs belief after losing two despicable goals. Great team effort to make the Unbelievable night at Easter Road. Smith hands them two goals, Bowie scores a goal of a lifetime. Then both teams go toe to toe in a pulsating match which left everyone shattered in the stands. But we are through to the next round. Well done Hibs have ridden their luck in this tie but no one can doubt the character of the group. One of the most exciting nights at Easter Road in Genius, sheer genius. Bowie has the potential to become one of the truly great centre forwards. Icing on the cake of a team performance filled with passion commitment and promise of much more to come. Even our goalie came good second half and extra time with tie-saving stops. Great time to support the Hibees.
