Logan O'Hoppe hit a go-ahead two-run single with two outs in the eighth inning, rallying the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday in Anaheim, Calif.
The Angels completed their first-ever six-game Freeway Series sweep of their Southern California rivals. The Angels' only other season sweep vs. the Dodgers came when they went 4-0 in 2019.
The Dodgers, who took their fourth straight loss, fell one game behind the San Diego Padres in the National League West. Los Angeles hadn't trailed in the division since April 27.
With the bases loaded and the Dodgers up 5-4 in the eighth, O'Hoppe lined a 103.2 mph fastball from reliever Edgardo Henriquez into center field to drive in Christian Moore and Taylor Ward, who had walked against Justin Wrobleski (4-4).
Tigers 1, White Sox 0
Troy Melton and three relievers combined on a two-hit shutout and Wenceel Perez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly to help Detroit defeat the host Chicago.
White Sox pitching limited the Tigers to just five hits, but Detroit capitalized to earn a three-game series victory.
Melton and fellow rookie right-hander Shane Smith of Chicago dueled for the first five innings. Smith allowed two hits and three walks with five strikeouts while throwing 56 of his 92 pitches for strikes.
Brewers 12, Pirates 5
William Contreras drove in four runs and Christian Yelich three more in host Milwaukee's win over Pittsburgh.
It was the Brewers' 12th consecutive win, which is the second time in franchise history the team has won at least 12 in a row. Milwaukee has also won 27 of its last 31 games. Milwaukee starter Brandon Woodruff allowed four hits in four innings with two walks and four strikeouts.

James McCann triggered Arizona's rally with a two-out solo homer off Phil Maton (2-4) in the ninth. John Curtiss (2-0) tossed a scoreless eighth while Andrew Saalfrank claimed his first career save.
Josh Burger hit a two-run homer for the Rangers while Evan Carter added two hits. Texas starter Merrill Kelly, acquired from Arizona at the deadline, went six innings and allowed seven hits and two runs. Zac Gallen gave up five hits and three runs over five innings.

Both starters went four innings, with Washington right-hander Irvin giving up six runs on seven hits and four walks. Vinnie Pasquantino provided the big blow against him, belting a changeup 410 feet to right field for a three-run homer in the fourth. Meanwhile, the Royals' Seth Lugo allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits and four walks. Nathaniel Lowe highlighted a five-run Nationals first with a grand slam to right field, and CJ Abrams added a solo shot in the fourth.
Rockies 6, Cardinals 5
Hunter Goodman hit a two-run pinch-hit homer in the ninth to lift visiting Colorado past St. Louis.
Braxton Fulford drove in two runs and Mickey Moniak went 2-for-5 with a homer as the Rockies won their second straight game and snapped an eight-game losing streak.

Despite scoring twice in the top of the ninth, the Mariners had their season-best eight-game winning streak end. Julio Rodriguez and J.P. Crawford each had two hits. Reliever Matt Brash (1-1) took the loss.
Marlins 13, Guardians 4

Trevor Story's homer propels Red Sox past Marlins

August 16 - Trevor Story had two hits, including a three-run home run, to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 7-5 victory over the visiting Miami Marlins on Saturday. Story's home run came against Miami starter Cal Quantrill and was part of a four-run third inning. After Jarren Duran hit an RBI double that allowed Roman Anthony to score, Story hit his 19th home run of the season to give Boston a 6-0 lead. Duran and Alex Bregman also scored on the home run. Anthony and Bregman both added two hits for the Red Sox, who received 6 1/3 innings from starter Brayan Bello (9-6). Bello allowed two runs on four hits and struck out two. Troy Johnston and Agustin Ramirez each hit a solo home run for Miami. Johnston's homer was the first of his major league career. Both home runs came against Bello. The Marlins have lost three games in a row, and seven of their last eight. Quantrill (4-10) was pulled with two outs in the fourth. He allowed seven runs on eight hits, struck out two and walked one. The Red Sox took a 2-0 lead on Masataka Yoshida's two-run single in the first inning. After the four-run third extended Boston's lead to 6-0, Bregman drove in Ceddanne Rafaela with a single to give the Red Sox a 7-0 advantage. Johnston's home run made it 7-1 in the fifth, and Ramirez hit his 18th home run of the season in the seventh. Johnston and Ramirez each collected two of Miami's eight hits. Miami made things interesting by scoring three runs against Isaiah Campbell in the ninth. Ramirez scored on an Heriberto Hernandez single, Hernandez scored on Eric Wagaman's triple and Derek Hill's single drove in Wagaman to cap the scoring. Aroldis Chapman recorded the final out to earn his 22nd save. The Marlins played without left fielder Kyle Stowers, who was given the day off after feeling tightness in his left side during Friday night's 2-1 loss to Boston. -Field Level Media

Nolan McLean earns first MLB victory as Mets edge Mariners

August 16 - Nolan McLean pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings to earn a victory in his major league debut as the New York Mets topped the visiting Seattle Mariners 3-1 on Saturday. Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso had run-scoring doubles for the Mets, who snapped a three-game losing streak and won for just the third time in their past 17 games. Seattle's Eugenio Suarez broke up the shutout bid with a solo shot to left field with one out in the ninth. McLean, a right-hander who was a third-round pick out of Oklahoma State in 2023, allowed just two hits -- a two-out single by Cal Raleigh in the third and a leadoff single by Dominic Canzone in the fifth. McLean walked four and struck out eight. Mets closer Edwin Diaz, a former Mariner, worked the final two innings for his 24th save of the season. McLean, who was a two-way player until focusing exclusively on pitching this season, got out of a bases-loaded jam in the third with a highlight-reel defensive play. After walking J.P. Crawford and Cole Young to open the third, Raleigh lined a single to right to load the bases. Julio Rodriguez hit a hard one-hopper up the middle that McLean reached behind his back to snare, then threw to second base to start an inning-ending double play. Mariners starter Bryan Woo (10-7) gave up one run on six hits over six innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts. The game's first run came in the third. Brett Baty, the No. 9 hitter in the Mets' lineup, grounded a single to right just out of the reach of diving second baseman Young, and Lindor followed with a double into the right-field corner, with Baty scoring from first. The Mets tacked on two runs in the seventh, as Baty led off with a single to right off reliever Caleb Ferguson and stole second. Baty advanced to third on Lindor's single to left and scored on Juan Soto's sacrifice fly to center. Lindor was thrown out at the plate by Randy Arozarena on Brandon Nimmo's single to left. Alonso greeted reliever Carlos Vargas with a double down the left-field line to score Nimmo. The teams will wrap up their three-game series Sunday at the annual MLB Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pa. --Field Level Media

Patrick Mahomes reveals secret ingredient that makes his marriage to wife Brittany work

has claimed his wife Brittany is 'just as competitive' as him as he gushed about his wife in a new interview. While the Chiefs quarterback and three-time Super Bowl winner has had a historic start to his NFL career, Brittany was formerly an athlete in her own right as well as the pair attended Whitehouse High School together. The now mom-of-three starred as a soccer player at the Texas school and later went on to play collegiately at the University of Texas at Tyler. She even played professionally for one season in Iceland. And while her soccer (playing) career is now over, her husband recognizes that their shared competitiveness is a major boon for their marriage. 'There's no better feeling than having someone by your side who is just as competitive as you and supports you in everything you do,' the quarterback told People. He added of their time together in high school: 'Whether it was her in soccer or me in football or baseball, we both understood the level of commitment it takes.' Aside from raising their three children together, Brittany and Patrick have also teamed up as co-owners of NWSL team the KC Current, who debuted last March. The couple welcomed their most recent child, Golden Raye, back in January, and Patrick recently beamed about how his wife handled the pregnancy of the couple's second daughter. 'Brittany crushed it. I was watching playoff games the entire day. She went to labor after one game,' Patrick Mahomes recalled in a clip of new ESPN documentary 'The Kingdom' which aired on the latest episode of 'Good Morning America.' 'Baby was here before the next game, so I didn't even miss a playoff game. So, she is as locked in as I am as far as football goes.' The couple welcomed their first child, Sterling Skye, in 2021 before their son, Patrick III ('Bronze') was born the following year. Brittany and Patrick also got married in March 2022 after his Chiefs lost to the Bengals in the AFC Championship. Back in July, the family-of-five enjoyed some time together in Mexico ahead of yet another grueling NFL season. In one photo, a beaming Mahomes sat alongside his wife and their children on the couch of their vacation home in one of the pictures and held Golden Raye up for the photo. In another, the Chiefs passer was seen holding hands with Bronze as they walked down a path on the holiday resort. Mahomes is now back training with the Chiefs as they prepare for their first game of the season on September 5. He played sparingly in Kansas City's preseason opener against the Cardinals last week, and did not appear against the Seahawks on Friday.
