‘Who is Salman Khan?' A clueless Pamela Anderson charged Rs 2.5 cr for 3 days in Bigg Boss, said Indian clothes made her claustrophobic

Indian Express01-08-2025
It's been over a decade, but Bigg Boss fans still haven't forgotten the time Baywatch star Pamela Anderson entered the house in a saree and sent TRPs soaring. In 2010, during Bigg Boss Season 4, Pamela, one of the biggest Hollywood names of the 90s, flew down to Mumbai for a three-day guest stint. That season also marked Salman Khan's debut as host, but Pamela had no idea who he was. Her appearance and that barely-there wardrobe stirred enough controversy to spark debates on whether she was even fit for Indian television, let alone a prime-time family show.

Before stepping into the Bigg Boss house, Pamela interacted with the media and said, 'I've heard about Salman through the media, but I don't really know who he is.' She said she'd seen a few Bollywood films but couldn't recall any actor by name. 'Maybe if I see him, I'll recognise him,' PTI quoted her saying ahead of her 2010 entry. She also added, 'I like doing household work. I do it at my place, so I have no issues with it.' Back home, Salman was already a massive name, he'd just taken over hosting duties from Amitabh Bachchan for season 4, so her headline-making line didn't exactly sit well with Indian fans.
But for Indian TV and even the participants as well as celebrities, the bigger noise came from her paycheck. Pamela was reportedly paid ₹2.5 crore for the three-day guest appearance. That came out to over ₹80 lakh a day, an insane number even by today's standards. The move created a lot of discussion about the show's budget and the value of international celebrity guests.

Anderson arrived dressed in white, smiled her way through the press, and promised to be 'unscripted.' She hadn't seen a single episode of the show, just knew it was India's spin on Big Brother, and was handed a quick contestant summary. 'I'll just be myself and have fun,' she said back then. Inside the house, Pamela stunned everyone by showing up in a traditional white saree. But there were also reports that not all her wardrobe picks sat well. According to the Times of India, an Indian designer who styled her claimed Pamela didn't like 'too many clothes,' allegedly saying she was 'claustrophobic and clothesophobic.' For someone who made the red Baywatch swimsuit iconic, her saree moment became the most unexpected highlight of the season.
Her entry was meant to 'spice up' the show, and it did. She danced with housemates, did the chores, and sent TRPs soaring. Still, her presence sparked debate: was she just Western glamour shoehorned into a desi setup? Many called it attention-seeking. Some said it felt like a cultural mismatch. At the time, the rest of the Bigg Boss 4 lineup included Shweta Tiwari, Dolly Bindra, Ashmit Patel, and Khali, with Shweta eventually winning the season.

Raksha Bandhan 2025: How rakhis and love shaped Harbhajan Singh's longest innings

From stadium cheers to family laughter in Jalandhar, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh says one thing has never changed — the love of his five sisters. For the prolific off-spinner, Raksha Bandhan has always been a special occasion, no matter where cricket took him. Harbhajan Singh talks about his memories with his sisters. 'I love the occasion,' he says at the outset. 'By God's grace, I have five sisters, and ever since I was a kid, it was a special occasion. My entire aim used to be to ensure that my hand looked full with rakhis — and I requested all my sisters to get big rakhis, so they would solve the purpose,' adds Harbhajan. The 45-year-old credits much of his long cricketing career to their support. 'One of the biggest reasons I played so long for India is because of my family… even when I was not in the best of forms, they would help me overcome those times,' he recalls, remembering the emotional hugs after India's 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup wins. His elder sister Bakshish Kaur says pampering their only brother came naturally . 'He really loved to see his arms full of rakhis, so we used to get big- big rakhis for him,' she laughs addint that she is proud of the heights achieved by her brother. 'Even today, we can't put into words how proud we are of him,' she says. Even when matches kept him away from home during the festival, Harbhajan tied every rakhi sent to him and made sure to share pictures with his sisters. Now, he marks the day with his children, passing on the same values he grew up with. 'I want to teach my son that not just brothers, but even sisters can take care of their brothers — just like mine did,' he says.

Bigg Boss Malayalam 7: Shaitya Santhosh and Munshi Ranjeet to get evicted? Here's what the ETimes poll says

Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 7 faces its first elimination after a week of drama. Anumol, Shaitya Santhosh, Gizele Thakral, Aryan, Renu Sudhi, Munshi Ranjeet, Sarika, and Nevin are nominated. An ETimes poll suggests Munshi Ranjeet and Shaitya Santhosh are most likely to be evicted, with 33% and 32% of votes respectively. As Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 7 wraps up its first eventful week, fans are gearing up for the season's first elimination. From intense arguments and emotional breakdowns to light-hearted moments and surprise punishments, the first week had it all, but now it's time for the game to get real with the inevitable: eviction. This week, eight contestants are facing the heat of elimination: Anumol, Shaitya Santhosh, Gizele Thakral, Aryan, Renu Sudhi, Munshi Ranjeet , Sarika , and Nevin. With all eyes on the weekend episode, both housemates and viewers are anxiously waiting to find out who will be the first to leave the house. To gauge public sentiment ahead of the eviction, ETimes conducted a poll on the official Instagram handle, asking followers to vote for the contestant they believe will be evicted. The poll featured four names: Shaitya Santhosh, Munshi Ranjeet, Nevin, and Sarika. The results sparked fresh buzz. 33% of respondents predicted Munshi Ranjeet's eviction, closely followed by 32% who believe Shaitya Santhosh will be shown the door. Nevin received 22% of the votes, while Sarika was deemed least likely to be evicted, with just 13% of the vote. While these results are purely indicative of viewer opinion and not an official confirmation, they hint at the current popularity trends within the fanbase. Both Shaitya and Ranjeet seem to be on shaky ground, possibly due to their limited visibility or impact during the first week. Meanwhile, the Bigg Boss house continues to stir conversations with its dynamic mix of contestants, unexpected tasks, and evolving group dynamics. With the elimination results just around the corner, the suspense remains high.
