Devendra Fadnavis launches ‘Maharashtra Dharma' podcast; claims he is taking forward the legacy of thinkers from the state

Indian Express4 days ago
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Sunday said the state not only created warriors, but also gave birth to protectors of religion, thinkers who founded the concept of rashtra (nation), and builders of the new India.
Fadnavis made the statement on the first episode of his podcast titled 'Maharashtra Dharma', which was launched a day after the estranged Thackeray cousins – Raj and Uddhav Thackeray – held a program jointly, claiming the victory of Marathi after Fadnavis revoked two Government Resolutions that had introduced Hindi as a third language in primary schools in Maharashtra.
In his 24.49-minute-long podcast with author Sadanand More, the Maharashtra CM said, 'Maharashtra Dharma is a moral code to live life which tells us to think rationally, behave with a spirit of service, and stand with valour. From Saint Dyaneshwar's verses to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's sword and from the courage of Mahatma Phule to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's standpoint, the chain was never broken and continued to move forward.'
Fadnavis also recalled the key achievements of the 'land of Maharashtra' from the 'era of Ramayana' down to the new age social reformers.
The chief minister further said, 'We are the carriers of the legacy of ideologies of Saint Dyaneshwar, Shivray, Savitribai, and Babasaheb Ambedkar. It is our duty to preserve, grow, and take forward this state, which was formed through their wisdom, sacrifice, and endurance. Maharashtra Dharma is not about remembrance, but it is our moral guide. It is to create an understanding of who we are.'
The Opposition, especially Uddhav Thackeray, has often termed Fadnavis and the BJP as anti-Maharashtra.

Madhav takes over as Andhra Pradesh BJP president, vows to carry forward party's legacy

P.V.N. Madhav officially assumed charge as BJP State president here on Wednesday amid a grand rally that witnessed participation from party workers and leaders across the State. The event coincided with the ABVP Foundation Day. The rally began at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, where Mr. Madhav paid floral tributes at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's statue. During the procession, Mr. Madhav garlanded the statue of legendary Telugu poet and Jnanpith awardee Viswanatha Satyanarayana. Hailing Mr. Satyanarayana's contribution to the Telugu language and literature, he noted the poet's role in advocating for Telugu as the legislative language of the State through a legislative lexicon. Addressing the media, Mr. Madhav demanded that Vijayawada's Lenin Centre be renamed after Viswanatha Satyanarayana, questioning the relevance of Lenin to India and advocating for a local icon who worked tirelessly for the Telugu language. 'Why should a place in India be named after Lenin, who has no connection to our country?' he asked. 'We must honour those who contributed to our culture and language. Viswanatha Satyanarayana deserves this recognition,' he said. At the party office, Mr. Madhav vowed to carry forward the party's legacy with the strength and determination demonstrated by his predecessors. He emphasised unity and proactive engagement, stating, 'Every worker is functioning with the spirit of being a leader. This collective zeal is the foundation of our movement.' Reflecting on political atmosphere in the State, Mr. Madhav said 'a decisive verdict has been delivered to end the anarchic rule,' signalling a turning point in the State's political landscape. Expressing his gratitude to the party, he said, 'I consider the post as a matter of great honour, and I will strive to uphold its dignity through dedicated service.' Mr. Madhav emphasised unity and strengthening of the party at the grassroot. 'Every karyakarta should feel like they are the president. We will move forward with discipline and national spirit,' he said. Recalling his ABVP roots, Mr. Madhav said it was meaningful to assume responsibilities on the ABVP Foundation Day. Outgoing president Daggubati Purandeswari expressed confidence that under Mr. Madhav's leadership, the party would grow stronger. 'The appointment of Mr. Madhav has already generated positive vibrations among party ranks. He will lead the BJP to greater heights in the State,' she said. Senior leaders, including Somu Veerraju, P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, Lanka Dinakar, N. Ramakrishna Reddy, V. Narayana Reddy, G. Sitaram Anjaneya Chowdhary, and B. Shivannarayana were present.

Centre stood by Himachal in the past and will continue to do so: Nadda

Shimla, July 9 (UNI) BJP National President and Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda today visited the rain-ravaged areas of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh due to the monsoon. The party chief visited areas that suffered major damage due to heavy rains including Nachan, Pangliur, Baga, Sainj, and Thunag. He met people who had lost 100 percent of their homes and land, some had even lost their parents and family members in the disaster. He also visited relief camps housing the affected people. Talking to the media, Nadda said he has been consistently visiting Himachal Pradesh during times of disaster, offering support and solidarity. "Recent destruction caused by rains is distressing. It has caused damage in the state, especially causing loss to life, property, and livestock. Many villages have been rendered and many places I visited have suffered huge losses," he lamented. If any political party was the first to provide relief to the public, it was the BJP, he claimed, adding that with the support of the public, various service centres were being operated, and the BJP played a leading role in quickly collecting and distributing food and daily necessities to the victims. Nadda emphasised that the Government of India has always been prompt in providing relief and financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh. "Our sentiments are with the affected people. BJP, headed by state president Rajeev Bindal and supervised by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, is spearheading in relief work in Himachal. We are ensuring that no one is left in pain," he said. As far as relief from the centre is concerned under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, immediate and time-bound assistance has been provided time and again. Recalling the 2023 disaster, Nadd said he had visited Himachal thrice during that period and ensured that assistance worth Rs 3,146 crore was delivered to the state through the central government. Currently in the wake of the disaster, Home Minister Amit Shah has released Rs 2006 crore as disaster relief for rehabilitation and reconstruction on the basis of assessment. "As a representative of Central Government I would like to assure the people of the state that the Centre is committed to give more than the rightful funds for relief work. I urge the state government to implement the relief and rehabilitation effectively as earlier there were reports of weak implementation in relief work, despite the fact that there were adequate funds," he said.
