Damson Madder's flattering midi dress gets me so many compliments and is now 50% off
If you've ever spotted an outfit 'in the wild' and thought to yourself 'I have to have that' then welcome to the club. When I spotted someone wearing Damson Madder's leopard print Persephone Midi Dress on the street in London, I was so taken by how flattering and effortlessly cool it was that I immediately had to track it down.
So imagine my joy when I discovered that not only was it still in stock, but it had a huge 50% discount, taking the price from £95 to £48. It went straight into my basket, and I've never been so happy with a purchase.
I wore the Persephone Midi Dress the very next day for dinner and drinks with a friend, and I can't remember the last time a dress got me so many compliments. From strangers to friends to people on Instagram, everyone raved about how flattering, unusual and fun the dress was, with its drop waist and bow details.
It has a fitted bodice with a square neckline and thin spaghetti straps that are fully adjustable, and a shirred back which gives you some movement whilst still keeping its fitted silhouette. Whilst I wasn't sure if the drop waist would suit my body type – I'm petite at 5ft 4' and a curvy size 14 – I was pleasantly surprised by how much taller and proportionate it made me look.
I did size up from my usual size and I'm glad I did, as it kept the Persephone Midi Dress form-fitting but didn't feel too restrictive and tight. The fabric has minimal stretch apart from the shirring and is made from a fairly structured material, so I felt a size up hung a little nicer and didn't highlight any lumps and bumps.
You can pick up the Damson Madder dress in sizes six to 20, and currently only the size 8 is out of stock in the leopard print. If animal print isn't your thing, you can also get it in a black and white gingham check, which has contrasting black bows on the hips and an even bigger discount, currently reduced to £38.
What I loved most about the Persephone Midi Dress is that it's effortless enough to wear for both day and evening. A pair of ballet flats, sandals or even trainers make it laid back enough for brunch, picnics in the park or even sightseeing on holiday, whilst a simple swap to some kitten heels and a clutch would give it some drama for evenings out.
If you prefer a more minimalist silhouette, River Island's Beige Long Sleeve Leopard Print Midi Dress is now £15 down from £32, and has a fitted design with long sleeves. Alternatively, New Look's £44 Gini London Grey Animal Print Ruched Jersey Dress has a similar effortless look with a high neck and sleeveless shape.

Whilst I don't have Emma's exact £165 shirt, I have recently snapped up this £36 Stripe Oversized Shirt from Anthology which looks just like it. Just like Emma's, my Anthology shirt is a beautiful pale blue colour with contrasting white stripes, although mine also has slim black stripes running down the centre of each white one, giving it some added contrast. Plus you can currently save 20% with the code SHINE, which knocks £7.20 off the price bringing it down to £28.80 and making it a much more affordable option if your budget doesn't stretch to Emma's Me and Em one. My Stripe Oversized Shirt has an oversized fit with a classic collared neckline and button-fastened cuffs for that traditional menswear-inspired look.I took my usual size and it fit perfectly, with a relaxed fit that's still flattering and doesn't overwhelm you. If you have a larger bust you might want to try taking a size up for some extra room, as I did find that it doesn't have a great deal of room in the chest area. One of the best things about Anthology's clothing is that it has a really inclusive range of sizes, too, and you can pick up the Stripe Oversized Shirt in sizes eight to 32. We also found this Blue Striped Slim Fit Poplin Shirt for just £17.99 at New Look, which comes in sizes six to 22 and is great if you prefer a more slimline fitting shirt. If you prefer your shirts to look like you've pinched them out of your partner's wardrobe, With Nothing Underneath's The Boyfriend Shirt is £95 and has a more menswear-inspired feel. It also comes in several different colours and patterns, giving you plenty of different designs to choose from. However I did find the Stripe Oversized Shirt has just the right length, so you can wear it loose and untucked and it'll give you just enough coverage over your hips and upper thighs without being tight. However it's not so long that if you prefer to wear it tucked in (like Emma did with her shirt) you won't end up with tonnes of fabric bunching up under your waistband. It's also made from a lovely lightweight material that's 90% cotton and 10% polyamide, which keeps it crisp and expensive feeling whilst still being breathable in the summer heat. It also just made me feel effortlessly put together and like I meant business – exactly what I needed for heading into the office.
