An annual fan tradition is returning for Spartans' opener against Broncos
An annual Spartans tradition is set to return for the season-opener against Western Michigan in a few weeks.
Michigan State announced the annual tradition of striping the stadium is set to return again this year in the opener against the Broncos on August 29. This has became the norm for the Spartans to have a season-opening home game on Friday night of Labor Day Weekend, with the fans striping the stadium in green and white.
Per a post from Michigan State Athletics' official X social media account, the even sections of the stadium should wear green, while the odd sections and student sections should wear white. To my knowledge, this is the typical sequence we see from year-to-year with this annual tradition.
Below is a nice graphic from the Spartans' main X account to help fans know what color to wear for that game against the Broncos:
Kickoff between Michigan State and Western Michigan is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on August 29. The game will be televised on FS1.

New MSU edge rusher is turning heads in practice, has 'some serious juice'
A new Spartans edge rusher is turning heads during preseason fall camp. It was a point of priority for the Spartans to revamp their edge rushing room in the offseason, and it sounds like that has been an early success during fall preseason camp. There have been a number of players and coaches comments from preseason camp that would suggest a big improvement at that position, and on Thursday, we heard some more good news on a new Spartan. According to a post from Kenny Jordan of On3, redshirt freshman edge rusher Anelu Lafaele has caught the attention of his position coach Chad Wilt. He said Lafaele has "some serious juice" -- which would suggest he is going to play a role on the Spartans defense for the next few years. Lafaele started his career at Wisconsin before transferring to Michigan State in the winter transfer portal. He was a four-star prospect in the 2024 class, and redshirted during his lone season with the Badgers. Michigan State's pass rushing was one of the worst in the Big Ten last year, and is hopefully going to see massive improvements this season. This comment from Wilt is another positive sign of that being the case when the Spartans open the 2025 season later this month. Date announced for annual Michigan State Madness event
Michigan State basketball has announced the date for its annual Michigan State Madness event. Michigan State Madness will be held on October 3, with the doors expected to open at 8 p.m. ET. Michigan State Madness is the annual preseason event held by the Spartans' men's and women's basketball programs that includes open practice, player contests and fun themed entrances. This is essentially the event previously known as midnight madness. Michigan State Madness is considered a celebration of the start of the college basketball season, which will officially start in early November with the first regular season games taking place. Admission is free for the event. Both the men's and women's basketball teams are coming off strong seasons last year, with both reaching the NCAA Tournament. Similar expectations are in play again for both teams as we look ahead to the 2025-26 season. Click here to see the complete details on the event from Michigan State. Georgia football trying to flip Michigan State's best commit
The college football recruiting world never stops as teams are now trying to flip commits so they can add to their recruiting classes. The Georgia Bulldogs are after Michigan State's highest ranked commitment in four-star wide receiver Tyren Wortham. The Booker High School (Florida) product is a target to join Georgia's top ranked recruiting class. The biggest competitor for Michigan State and Georgia is Auburn. 'They want me to come on an in-season visit. UCF has still been on my trail, wanting me to come back to a game. I'm pretty sure Georgia wants me at a game," Wortham talking to Rivals (subscription required). Rivals has Wortham as a four-star wide receiver as the No. 111 overall rated recruit and he is ranked inside the top 20 wide receivers in the 2026 class. Wortham's production was unbelievable this past season. The Michigan State commitment registered 67 catches for 1,360 yards and 17 touchdowns. Georgia is contenders to finish with the top recruiting class in the country. The Bulldogs have either the No. 1 (247Sports) or No. 2 (ESPN, Rivals) recruiting class in the 2026 cycle.
