Astros' Jeremy Pena nears return in latest injury update
Key players who are currently rehabbing injuries on the injury list include outfielder Yordan Alvarez, third baseman Isaac Paredes, as well as pitchers Cristian Javier and shortstop Jeremy Pena.
Heading into the Astros series against the Washington Nationals on Monday, Houston was able to give an update on Jeremy Pena, who's been rehabbing a small rib fracture he sustained after getting hit by a pitch against the Chicago Cubs on June 27.
According to The Athletic's Chandler Rome, Pena hit against live pitching at the Astros' Florida Complex over the weekend and will be returning to practice in Houston before their series against the Nationals.
This is great for the Astros as they haven't been able to find the same success in July as they did in previous months. They have a record of 10-12 this month.
Before Jeremy Pena went down with the injury, he was having the best season of his young career. He was elected as a 2025 All-Star while posting a .322 batting average, .278 on-base percentage, .867 OPS, and 4.5 WAR, hitting 11 home runs and 40 RBI through 82 games this season.
Houston hasn't made a set time for Pena to return to the lineup, but he's expected to come back before the end of the month.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons has made no secret his love for Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn. Quinn was in his first season as the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys when Dallas selected Parsons with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. It was Quinn who realized that Parsons would be best employed as an edge defender, and Parsons quickly proved him correct. Parsons spoke of his appreciation for Quinn every chance he got. Well, in case you haven't heard, Parsons requested a trade from the Cowboys on Friday. He and the team are at odds over a new contract, as Parsons felt Dallas misled him. Owner/GM Jerry Jones has stated he will not trade Parsons, and the goal remains to sign him to a long-term deal. This weekend, Bleacher Report was in Ashburn for a training camp practice, and, of course, Quinn was asked about Parsons. "Yeah, I loved coaching him, I really did, and I'll be connected with him for life," Quinn said. "He had the versatility to do different things, so he challenged me as a coach. What if we line him up here? What if I put him here? And sometimes I would be like, 'That didn't look so good.' Another time, 'We got something.' So he pushed me as a coach to think differently, and it allowed us to be more versatile. I had an absolute blast coaching him." Quinn has to be careful in discussing Parsons, but his affinity for his former player is apparent. Parsons revealed last season that he and Quinn still communicate. What does this mean? Absolutely nothing. Quinn would do anything to acquire Parsons, but do you think that Jerry Jones would trade Parsons to Washington? First, the Cowboys aren't trading their best player. Secondly, if they did, it would not be to Washington, Philadelphia, or the New York Giants. Steelers release 2 injured players from roster with injury settlements
On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers released a pair of injured players from their training camp roster with injury settlements. The Steelers had placed wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig and outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon on the Reserve/Injured list but now they will be free to rehab and then sign with another team. Moon was part of the Steelers outside linebacker rotation last season as the team's No. 4. Moon was active for 13 games in 2024 and even got one start, although he failed to register a sack. Moon was a longshot to make the final 53-man roster after the Steelers selected former Ohio State edge rusher Jack Sawyer in the 2025 NFL draft. Lemonious-Craig was added as an undrafted free agent this offseason. He played his college football at the University of Arizona but he was never able to have a significant impact on the Wildcats passing game despite excellent size and athleticism. Pittsburgh has a full wide receiver depth chart despite lacking a true No. 2 wide receiver to go along with DK Metcalf. Reliever's intentional balk leads to benches clearing in Astros' loss to Red Sox
BOSTON — Houston Astros reliever Héctor Neris intentionally balked to advance a runner to third on Saturday, then had an exchange with Red Sox third base coach Kyle Hudson that led to a dustup between the teams. Neris surrendered Trevor Story's two-out RBI double in the seventh inning of Houston's 7-3 loss. Advertisement The right-hander then balked, moving Story to third, before Carlos Narváez bounced to shortstop for the final out. As Neris made his way off the mound, he had words with Hudson and yelled toward the Red Sox dugout, causing both teams, including bullpens, to come on the field before order was quickly restored. Asked if he felt the Red Sox were stealing signs, Neris responded: 'Maybe. Maybe yes, maybe no.' Advertisement 'But I still wanted to concentrate,' the 36-year-old right-hander continued. 'In (that) situation, I want to do what I'm feeling in the moment. That is the reason why I moved him to third.' Neris declined to specify what he said to Hudson that caused the benches to empty. 'Nothing. It's part of the game,'' he said with a grin. 'Something funny. People come into (the clubhouse) maybe to hear what happened, but nothing serious.'
