Demi Lovato Misses The Mark With Her Comeback Single

Demi Lovato Misses The Mark With Her Comeback Single

Forbesa day ago
As August began, Demi Lovato kicked off her new era, which fans had been expecting for a while, as the singer-songwriter had been quiet in recent months, preparing her return to the pop scene. Her new single "Fast" is expected to front her ninth album, though for now the Grammy nominee hasn't confirmed any official details. Fans in the United Kingdom purchased "Fast" in sizable numbers… but not enough to make it a success on the main singles tally.
'Fast' Debuts on Three Charts
"Fast" debuts on a trio of rankings across the Atlantic. Lovato's latest opens highest on the Official Dance Singles chart at No. 30. The tune also narrowly misses the top 40 region on both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales lists, arriving at Nos. 46 and 49, respectively.
First Dance Chart Entry in Eight Years
Lovato earns just her third career hit on the Official Dance Singles chart with "Fast," and it easily stands as her lowest-peaking. Her only other two appearances — "No Promises" with Cheat Codes and "Instruction," fronted by Jax Jones and also featuring Stefflon Don — both came close to hitting No. 1, falling short by only a space or two.
Both "No Promises" and "Instruction" reached the Official Dance Singles chart in 2017. Lovato has been absent from that ranking ever since, and "Fast" brings her back for the first time in more than eight years.
Four Years Since Demi Lovato's Last Hit
While "Fast" earns decent starts on several sales-based charts, it completely misses the Official Singles list, the U.K.'s most competitive songs ranking, and the one most artists hope to appear on.
Lovato hasn't placed a track on that tally in more than four years. In April 2021, both "Dancing with the Devil" and "Met Him Last Night" — a collaboration with Ariana Grande — spent brief periods on the chart, though neither broke into the top 40. Since then, Lovato has landed on the Official Albums roster with two projects, but neither produced any major U.K. hits.
Dance-Pop Crossover Trend Boosts Chart Return
Lovato's reemergence on dance-specific tallies with "Fast" comes at a time when crossover club-pop tracks are gaining renewed traction. For a while, the blend of dance and pop vanished from top 40 spaces, but now, even as country takes over in some respects, artists like Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande are keeping the sounds of the dancefloor on the charts.

Rauw Alejandro to receive Hispanic Heritage award, teases new album ‘Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0'

Puerto Rican pop visionary Rauw Alejandro will be honored at the 38th annual Hispanic Heritage Awards. On Wednesday, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation announced that the singer-songwriter will receive the 2025 Hispanic Heritage Award for Vision, a title that honors his groundbreaking contributions to Latin music and his role in shaping its global future. 'As an artist in constant motion, Rauw Alejandro embodies the very essence of the vision award, bold in creativity, future-focused in his global impact and unapologetically original in everything he does,' says Antonio Tijerino, president and chief executive of HHF. 'His work is not just music, it's a movement that confirms what Latin artists mean to the world.' The award, established by the White House in 1998, is bestowed on notable public figures for their accomplishments and cultural contributions to the Latino community. Past honorees, specifically in the vision category, include Wisin, Ivy Queen, Bad Bunny, Residente and more. The 32-year-old songwriter from San Juan welcomed the award with an unveiling of his own: the title of his next album, 'Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0.' 'This is just the beginning … with my next project 'Capítulo 0' I want to keep showcasing not only Puerto Rico, but the full essence of the Caribbean.' News of this honor should not come as a surprise to those who have been following Rauw Alejandro's career and hustle. His 2020 debut album, 'Afrodisíaco,' earned him his first Grammy nomination for best urban music album, as well as a Grammy nod for best new artist. Throughout the years, the eclectic singer-songwriter and dance phenom has innovated the Latin music scene with the release of experimental albums like his electronic and R&B-inspired LP, 'Vice Versa,' in 2021; his techno-infused psychedelic album, 'Saturno,' in 2022; and his beachy follow-up, 'Playa Saturno,' in 2023. In 2024, Rauw Alejandro released his fifth studio album, 'Cosa Nuestra,' a project inspired by New York City's salsa music scene in the 1970s. Upon its release, the record landed him the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Latin Albums chart, and No. 6 on the Billboard 200. The critically-acclaimed album is likely to claim top prizes at the upcoming 2025 Latin Grammys. ''Cosa Nuestra' has always been my way of representing my island, my culture, and my people — wherever they may be,' said Rauw Alejandro in a statement. 'Every detail — the beats, the visuals, the dancing — reflects part of our Puerto Rican roots and our connection with other sister cultures, because we've been shaping the history of music for a long time.' The 38th annual Hispanic Heritage Awards will take place on Sept. 4 at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. To date, this year's honorees include NPR's Felix Contreras, stoner comic Cheech Marin, Rizos Curls chief executive Julissa Prado and more.

Austin Butler Reveals He Was High on Stage at Bad Bunny Concert

Austin Butler was high on life—and maybe a little something extra—when he made an unexpected cameo at Bad Bunny's concert on August 9. The Grammy winner (whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) was performing at his No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí residency in Puerto Rico, where he was joined on stage by his Caught Stealing co-star Austin, the movie's director Darren Aronofsky, and Canadian singer Régine Chassagne. A few days later, Austin opened up about the experience during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, revealing that he had been high off a cannabis edible the entire time. 'Somebody gave me an edible right before the show, and I thought that was a good idea at the time,' the Oscar nominee explained during the August 12 episode. 'Then it turns out we're in like, a casita, a house that is basically the second stage. He comes and he's on that stage at one point.' He continued, 'So, suddenly I'm on stage with Bad Bunny and the edible is working. So it's like my brain is in two movies. One is like, 'Benito and I had lunch earlier in the day, I'm just like, so proud of him.'' 'I'm watching him going like, 'Oh my god, look how much you mean to everyone here.' I'm like, falling in love with Puerto Rican culture and the dancing and everybody is so sexy and amazing,' Austin added. He also admitted that he didn't know what to do with himself on stage, saying, 'Then, the other part of me is like, 'Don't dance, because you'll take attention away from him. This is his moment.' So I'm like, 'hide,' my body is saying 'hide,' but then the music is so good and it's like in my bones at that point.' Allow us to present you with the hiding/dancing in question: TL;DR: Yep, Austin could even make an awkward moment look hot.
