Warriors' Buddy Hield explains why Colosseum visit left him 'a little disappointed'
Hield was at an NBA Summer League game to watch the young players on the Warriors' roster take on the Utah Jazz on Sunday night. The Warriors won the game 103-93, but it was Hield's comments on his trip to Italy that caught the attention of the internet.
"I was a little disappointed when I went to the Colosseum because I watched 'Gladiator' and I thought Maximus was a real warrior," he explained on the ESPN broadcast. "So, I'm going into the Colosseum screaming, 'Maximus!' My tour guide said he's not real."
"Gladiator" was released in 2000 and won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound and Best Costume Design. It earned more than $465 million at the box office.
Hield said he saw "Gladiator 2" with Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington and didn't think it was as good as the first one with Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix.
Hield is about to enter his second season with the Warriors. He joined the team before the start of the 2024-25 season as part of a six-team trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged 11.1 points per game and shot 41.7% from the field.
He played in all 82 games, primarily coming off of the bench.
Hield was an NBA All-Rookie Team member when he first broke into the league. He started out with the New Orleans Pelicans but was traded to the Sacramento Kings in his rookie year. He's played with the Indiana Pacers as well.

It wasn't the time to stay on the pitch, but I don't know.' Wiegman is due to speak to the media at 5.45pm BST later on Monday and is expected to give an update on Williamson's condition. The Arsenal defender has started all four of England's matches at Euro 2025.

LIV Golf star Sergio Garcia snaps driver in frustration in final round of Open Championship
Sergio Garcia had a tough final round at the Open Championship on Sunday. He shot a final round 68 and finished tied for 34th with Aaron Rai, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Lee Westwood. He was 3-under for the tournament. However, Garcia did something those other golfers likely didn't do – finish his round without a driver. The LIV Golf star snapped his driver on the second hole of his round and finished without it. He still managed to birdie the hole on his way to the 68. He had five birdies on the day to pair along with his two bogeys. Players are barred from replacing their clubs in the middle of the round. He opened up about breaking the club after the round. "To be totally honest, I didn't feel like I did that much on the 2nd tee," he said, via "Obviously, I didn't hit a good drive, and I kind of — I didn't smack it straight down. I kind of like swiped it back. I've done that 50 times, and I've never broken a club. The shaft just snapped in half, and I was surprised. I wasn't trying to break it, and I was actually surprised when I saw that — because usually, if it breaks, it breaks by the neck, and it broke in the middle of the shaft. "I don't know, maybe the shaft had a little thing there because I didn't feel like with what I did it should have broken, but that's what it was, and then I got some good practice when I threw it." Garcia's 34th-place finish was the best of the year in the major tournaments. He missed the cut at the Masters and was tied for 68th at the PGA Championship. Memphis Grizzlies sign PJ Hall, former Clemson basketball star, to NBA two-way contract
Former Clemson basketball star PJ Hall has an NBA contract again. The Memphis Grizzlies signed Hall to a two-way contract July 20. A two-way contract allows a team to have up to three players (in addition to their 15-man roster) who can split time between the NBA and its G League affiliate. Hall, 23, is back in the NBA after going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft and signing a two-way deal with the Denver Nuggets. He played in 19 games with the Nuggets last season, averaging 1.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in 3.5 minutes as a rookie. The Nuggets released him this offseason, and he played for the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League when the Grizzlies signed him. He averaged 9.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, one assist and 1.6 blocks in 13.7 minutes. Hall started all 20 of his Showcase Cup and regular-season appearances with the G League's Grand Rapids Gold last season, averaging 18.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 blocks in 32 minutes. He averages increased to 19.2 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 31.5 minutes in 13 games during the regular season. Hall attended Clemson for four seasons and helped it make to the Elite Eight for the first time in 44 years in 2024. He earned first-team All-ACC honors and finished third in ACC Player of the Year voting in his final season. Before Clemson, Hall played at Dorman in Spartanburg, helping the Cavaliers to two Class AAAAA state championships.
