Is this the Orlando Pirates XI vs Kaizer Chiefs?

Orlando Pirates have a massive Nedbank Cup final on the horizon against Kaizer Chiefs. Is this the XI to bring back the trophy?
Chaine; Van Rooyen, Sibisi, Mbokazi, Hotto; Makhaula, Mbatha; Nkota, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng; Mabasa.
Chiefs and Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates will contest their ninth meeting in a Nedbank Cup final. The stage is set for kickoff at 15:30 on Saturday, 10 May at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Of the teams' eight previous meetings in the Nedbank Cup final, Kaizer Chiefs have won six finals – in 1971, 1976, 1977, 1981, 1984 and 2006. Orlando Pirates have managed two wins in 1975 and 1988. A 75% win ratio is a huge reason for Amakhosi fans to be cautiously optimistic.
Mayele has an exemplary record in the Caf Champions League; he's got eight goals in 11 appearances this term. Overall, he's scored 21 goals and supplied four assists in 35 matches in Africa's elite club competition. No wonder Pirates are keen to claim the signature of the man who broke their hearts in an epic Champions League semi-final second leg; Mayele's brace helped Pyramids to a 3-2 win and sealed their place in the final against Sundowns.

Long time coming? DStv considering sports-only packages

While millions of South Africans continue to ditch their DStv subscriptions, Multichoice has finally acknowledged a call for it to introduce tailor-made packages, particularly sports-only ones, featuring the SuperSport group of channels. The pay-TV company has recorded a monumental revenue loss over recent years. According to social media users, this follows the company's tone-deaf approach to affordability, diversity, and demands. Following shocking news that DStv had lost 3 million subscribers in 2 years, its parent company, Multichoice, conceded that it would consider consumer demands. For many South Africans, this means picking your own packages, tailor-made to your interests. Sports-only packages featured high up on the list. MultiChoice has reported a decline in its subscriber base for the financial year ending 31 March 2025, losing nearly 1.2 million subscribers. Image: MultiChoice Multichoice Group CEO Calvo Mawela stated that the company would investigate whether unbundling SuperSport from DStv and launching a sports-only package would be a feasible option for its business model. He said this week: 'We've accelerated that project in terms of getting us to finalise which direction we're going to take in this financial year. But yes, we are considering all options as part of a broader product offering going forward'. The investigation will conclude at the end of the current financial year-end in March 2026. Currently, the SuperSport group of channels is offered on DStv's Premium package – it's most expensive – which currently costs R949. For many sports enthusiasts, 'off season' means pausing their subscriptions or cancelling them altogether. In multiple financial reports, Multichoice has acknowledged that the rising cost of living meant that 'households are struggling to make ends meet and many had no choice but to give up their DStv subscription for the time being.' Thembinkosi Lorch to return to Orlando Pirates under Rulani?

Wydad Casablanca winger Thembinkosi Lorch could return to Orlando Pirates if Rulani Mokwena takes over as head coach. Mokwena is in pole position to take over from Jose Riveiro as Bucs coach after the Spaniard left for Al Ahly last month. Lorch joined Mokwena at Wydad but the 38-year-old coach's time in Morocco was cut short after the club decided to terminate his contract. Lorch and Rulani worked at Orlando Pirates briefly in 2019 before the 31-year-old former Bafana Bafana star rejoined the Soweto born coach at Mamelodi Sundowns five years later. 'Lorch has the talent, and we all know that,' Mokwena told iDiski Times . 'He's a player I like a lot for the final third because he has a lot of weapons. When he's at his best, he influences the result'. 'His adaptation has been gradual. I think he should be scoring more, and I told him this. We worked on certain movements and situations, and he knows how to finish and find the spaces around the box.' Although Mokwena has not touched much on his potential return to Pirates, he admitted he would be open to join the Soweto giants. Regarding Lorch, the ex-Downs coach highlighted the winger's weakness. 'The legs don't allow for movements from deeper areas that then place greater physical demands on making movements towards the box. This is why he needs to be a bit more patient in movement, receiving the ball, and arriving in spaces than earlier in his career,' Mokwena explained. 'In recent friendlies, Wydad's adjustments are evident—more structured in a mid- to low block without possession, and him having to defend the wide channel on the left makes him play further away from the box because he has to defend closer to [Ayoub] Boucheta in this role and assist [El Mehdi] Moubarik and [Mickael] Malsa or [Ismail] Moutaraji in protecting the left half space and extending the midfield line to protect zone 14,' he said. Lorch returning to Orlando Pirates might happen if Mokwena takes over. The 38-year-old coach is a big fan of Nyoso. 'It's 11 vs 11, Sundowns will do well'

It's nearly time for the Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns to face the ultimate test at the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA. Sundowns, known as 'The Brazilians,' jetted out of the OR Tambo International Airport last Sunday before camping in Florida. The tournament will feature the world's biggest clubs, such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain, holders of the UEFA Champions League. Two released Orlando Pirates players never complained Mamelodi Sundowns team vs Raja Casablanca. Image: @safootclassics/X The Brazilians in Group F will battle Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund, the Brazilian giants Fluminense, and Ulsan HD from South Korea. 'All these teams are quality teams. They've done very well to be there, but Sundowns is a good team, and they can do well against them,' Feutmba told KickOff . Rumours: Kaizer Chiefs have signed these four players 'In football, it's not about where you come from, it's always about your desire to win a game. When I was playing for Cameroon in the 1990 World Cup, we beat Argentina when nobody expected us to. We did it because of the mindset and spirit. 'It's 11 against 11. It depends on how you prepare, it depends on the stage going into that game. So Sundowns have a team good enough to do well there. 'Most of the Sundowns players are the national team players, so they have what it takes to get out of that group alive. So the country will benefit a lot from the experience they will gain in this tournament. 'I know Sundowns will do well. Football is football. It's played the same way everywhere. They will get out of their group, Sundowns; they have the team,' Feutmba concluded.
