Blanket ban on VIP ‘darshan' at KV Temple during Shrawan
kanwariyas
and pilgrims, Kashi Vishwanath Temple authorities have decided to suspend VIP 'darshan' facility and entry of dignitaries with special protocol throughout the month of Shrawan, from Jul 11 to Aug 9.
The entry points too may be reduced from six to five if the Ganga floods the ghat steps used for reaching Ganga Dwar.
Speaking to TOI on Sunday, divisional Commissioner S Rajalingam said all arrangements for crowd regulation and facilitation of pilgrims and kanwariyas had been finalised. "Considering possibility of heavy crowding, as witnessed during Shrawan months in past years and Maha Kumbh this year, it has been decided that there would be no VIP and special protocol 'darshan' facility for the entire month.
Arrangements are being made considering all possible challenges, including the rise in level of the Ganga.
"
Regarding arrangements at Kashi Vishwanath Temple, its administration said kanwariyas and pilgrims will be given entry through Gate-4, Nandu Feria, Silko, Dhundiraj and Saraswati Phatak entry points. Ganga Dwar entry point will also be used, but if Ganga level rises and interconnectivity of ghats ends, entry through Lalita Ghat will be restricted temporarily.
The four Mondays in the Shrawan month will fall on Jul 14, 21, 28, and Aug 4, when the deity will be adorned with special 'shringar'. Jhula Shringar will occur on concluding day of Shrawan on Aug 9. Temple officials have appealed to devotees to join queues for visits and not fall for any touts. Considering last year's huge crowd, the temple trust advised devotees not to join the queue on an empty stomach, as it could affect their health.
The temple also requested them to avoid bringing bags, mobiles, pens, metal items, etc, as these are not allowed inside, so they should leave these items at home or hotel/lodge. Due to the large crowd, free baggage counters at the dham will not be operational.
Medical teams led by doctors will be stationed at five locations for devotees visiting the dham, with two ambulances, including one equipped with advanced life support, also stationed for any emergencies.
Six lost and found centres will be operational on the temple premises, Shankaracharya Chowk, Gate-1 (Ganga Exit Gate), Gate-2 (Saraswati Phatak), Gate-4 (Main Entry Route) and Lalita Ghat to assist people separated from their families in the crowd.
Security personnel and support staff will also be deployed. A centralised public information system and local public address systems will be in place across the dham.
A free e-rickshaw service will be provided from Godowlia to Maidagin for the elderly, disabled and children. Glucose/ORS solutions, light refreshments, biscuits, candies, chocolates, etc, will be distributed periodically for the benefit of elderly and children. Drinking water counters and jaggery will be in adequate supply.
With support of Smart City, digital viewing of Lord Vishwanath's aarti and adornments will be available at various locations in the dham complex and city. As in previous years, online viewing will be available for those unable to visit. Online streaming of the deity's viewings will also be available on the official YouTube channel of Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

Three Days to Urs: Crater-Filled Tajbagh Road Poses Threat to Lakhs of Devotees
1 2 3 4 5 Nagpur: With just three days left for the annual Urs festival at revered Hazarat Baba Tajuddin Dargah in Tajbagh, the condition of the main approach road continues to pose a serious risk to the lakhs of devotees expected to visit. The ongoing construction of a flyover along the stretch has left the road riddled with potholes, craters, and uneven surfaces, causing major inconvenience and danger to both motorists and pedestrians. A visit by TOI on Monday revealed that the road condition has deteriorated drastically. Large parts of the road are damaged, and the usable width has significantly reduced due to barricading and construction material, leading to frequent traffic jams. The road repair currently falls under the purview of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is currently building a 2.2-km-long flyover from Bhande Plot Square to Dighori. This flyover is part of the larger Rs998 crore project stretching from Indora to Dighori. The project includes two major flyovers — Kamal Chowk to Reshimbagh Square, and Bhande Plot to Dighori — meant to ease congestion in North and South Nagpur. However, since work on the Bhande Plot-Dighori flyover began, the condition of the road underneath worsened considerably. The stretch sees heavy daily traffic as it passes through a busy marketplace, the Tajbagh, and a nearby college. Taj Ahmed Raja, secretary of Hazarat Baba Tajuddin Trust, raised serious concerns over the safety of devotees. "The road is in poor condition because of the flyover work. During Urs, lakhs of devotees visit Tajbagh and they will be at risk if the road is not repaired urgently. On July 22, Shahi Sandal will pass from the road and thousands will participate in it, they too will be at risk if the road is not repaired," said Raja. He added that the issue was taken up in recent review meetings chaired by police commissioner Ravinder Singal. "The CP warned that if any mishap happens because of bad road conditions, then NHAI officials would be booked. He also asked NMC and MSEDCL officials to repair the street lights which are currently non-functional," Raja stated. Adding to the concern, a local resident said that traffic congestion between Bhande Plot Square and Dighori has become a daily ordeal. "Every day minor accidents are being reported on the road and traffic jams have become common since the flyover work started. People regularly using the road have become frustrated," the local said. When contacted, an NHAI official confirmed that repair works will be undertaken before the Urs begins, offering some hope to the thousands preparing to attend the religious event.

Sea of devotion: KVT sees huge influx on 1st Shrawan ‘Somvar'
1 2 3 4 5 6 Varanasi: The Kashi Vishwanath Temple was bathed in an aura of profound spirituality as a sea of devoted pilgrims congregated to pay obeisance to Lord Shiv on the auspicious occasion of the first Monday of the holy Shrawan month. Throughout the day, the sacred precincts resonated with fervent chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' as the faithful offered ardent prayers to the deity As the ethereal notes of the 'mangla aarti' faded away in the early morning hours, the revered sanctum sanctorum of the Kashi Vishwanath temple swung open its doors, inviting the faithful to partake in the sacred 'jharokha darshan'. Devotees, arrayed in lines stretching from Maidagin and Godowlia, were greeted with a gentle cascade of flowers as they awaited their turn to enter the majestic Kashi Vishwanath Dham to offer 'Jalabhishek'. The area around the temple remained heavily crowded with pilgrims and saffron-clad kanwariyas. As the devotees patiently waited for their turn, commissioner of pPolice Mohit Agrawal, district magistrate Satyendra Kumar, temple's chief executive officer Vishw Bhushan Mishra and other officials showered petals on them at different points. Officials, especially the CP, could also be seen seeking feedback from pilgrims and kanwariyas on the arrangements. The temple administration has stopped the process of sharing the footfall of devotees on an hourly basis this year. The CEO said that as per the decision taken by the temple trust and administration, the entire figure for the Shrawan will be released after the end of the auspicious month. A majestic, specially adorned processional idol of Lord Shiv captivated the devotees as they navigated the zig-zag barricades within the Kashi Vishwanath Dham. To ensure a comfortable experience, authorities provided extensive amenities, including German hangars and sheds to shield visitors from the elements. Additionally, they offered glucose, ORS solutions, and drinking water to keep devotees hydrated. Medical aid and lost and found services were also readily available. Keeping in mind the arrangements for the devotees coming from all over the country, the administration has ensured ample drinking water counters, medical help desks, lost and found centres, and other facilities and security arrangements in the temple area. The Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust ensured all possible and necessary arrangements for an orderly and smooth darshan. To cater to the large gathering, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple administration arranged a live telecast of the sacred rituals on LED screens within the temple premises and at six other strategic locations, including the railway station, Godowlia Crossing, and ghats. This allowed pilgrims and kanwariyas to witness the ceremonies in real-time, making their wait in long queues more meaningful. The darshan will also be available worldwide via YouTube live streaming, allowing devotees across the globe to see Baba Vishwanath during Shrawan. Earlier, continuing their tradition, Yadav Bandhus reached the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in large numbers to offer 'Jalabhishek'. As most of the ghats along the river Ganga have been submerged, men in khaki kept extra vigil there to avoid crowding of devotees collecting Gangajal for offering 'Jalabhishek' at various temples. A huge crowd was also evident at all other temples of Lord Shiv, including Markandeya Mahadev on the Ganga-Gomti confluence at Kaithi, Tilbhandeshwar, Kedareshwar, Onkaleshwar and Tilbhandeshwar. Jageshwar, Rameshwar, Shooltankeshwar, Kardmeshwar, and Mrityunjaya Mahadev. The temples reverberated with Vedic chants, accompanied by the sounds of conch shells, bells, and hymns.

Delay, deboard test patience of flyers from Pune to Delhi & Kolkata
Pune: Passengers of a SpiceJet's Pune-Delhi flight on Sunday evening remained seated in the aircraft for more than an hour after the first round of taxiing and their aircraft flew nine hours behind its scheduled departure time, while Akasa Air's Kolkata-bound plane's flyers encountered almost three-and-a-half hours' delay on Monday afternoon because of a nauseating stench in the cabin. Over 100 flyers were booked on SpiceJet's Pune-Delhi flight (SG-914) on Sunday, scheduled to fly at 12noon and land in Delhi by 2.20pm. A flyer, requesting anonymity, said he got a message from the airline in the morning that the flight would depart at 5pm. He said the boarding was complete around 5.15pm. After taxiing for a while, the plane stopped. "The aircraft remained at standstill till around 6pm. Then it made a turnaround and headed towards the bay. We remained seated in the plane from 6pm to 7.30pm without any proper information as to what was going on. The cabin crew did not respond to our queries properly and with clarity," the flyer said. "Nobody is aware of the actual issue and expected resolution time," he posted. All flyers were deboarded after 7.30pm and taken to the terminal building. "We had to wait for another one-and-a-half hours, during which our security check was conducted. We boarded the plane again around 9pm. The aircraft took off at 9.20pm and landed in Delhi at 11.15pm," another flyer said. A SpiceJet spokesperson told TOI, "The aircraft had to return to the bay because of a technical issue. Passengers were deplaned after an hour and the flight later departed at 9.05pm. The aircraft's air-conditioning was fully functional. Passengers were served refreshments and were assisted throughout by SpiceJet ground staff." On Monday afternoon, about 200 flyers of Akasa Air's Kolkata-bound flight (QP-1563) were deboarded because of a foul smell in the aircraft. Krishna Agarwal, a flyer, said the flight was supposed to take off from Pune at 1.05pm. "It got delayed and the boarding started at 2.20pm. We felt the nauseating stench just after stepping into the plane. The passengers were deboarded at 2.40pm, following protests," Agarwal said. "We had to complete the security check process all over again and I entered the plane again at 3.20pm. I could still feel the smell. But the cabin crew simply said those who wanted to fly could fly and vice versa. We had no choice," Agarwal said, as the aircraft was taxiing towards the runway. An Akasa Air spokesperson told TOI, "An unpleasant odour was detected in the cabin of an Akasa Air aircraft scheduled to operate flight QP1563 from Pune to Kolkata on July 14 shortly after the boarding was completed. Subsequently, all passengers were deboarded and the aircraft's cabin and cargo hold underwent a thorough cleaning. Our crew members and on-ground teams attended to the passengers and kept them informed during the delay. The flight departed from Pune at 4.32pm."
