Brentford to sign Michael Kayode permanently from Fiorentina
As per TMW and Fabrizio Romano, Brentford have activated the €17.5m clause to bring Michael Kayode permanently to the club from Fiorentina. The Bees had brought Kayode to England in January and although he took some time to get settled in, he has now hit form. This was particularly noticeable during their recent game against Manchester United where the defender won Man of the Match.
With right-backs being in heavy demand with the the summer transfer window being open, it is a coup of Brentford's behalf to have secured him for this cheap. The 20 year old Italian is solid both in defense and attack and it is genuinely surprising that Fiorentina failed to get a bigger fee for the player.
Brentford's success in the Premier League has been built upon their astute transfer business and Kayode is just the latest proof of that. It won't be surprising if they sell him to a bigger club for a sizeable profit within a year or two. Kayode's agent Andrea Ritorni also stated that the player is very happy to play in the Premier League and is beginning to get along well with manager Thomas Frank and other teammates.

George Russell Proves His Mercedes Contract Should Already Be Signed
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. George Russell delivered an incredible drive for Mercedes at the Canadian Grand Prix, winning the race from pole position. Red Bull's Max Verstappen pushed Russell during the entire race, making the British driver earn the win. The race was tight throughout, with the gap between the top two staying within five seconds for most of the race. George Russell of Great Britain and Mercedes speaks in the FIA press conference following his race win during the F1 Grand Prix of Canada at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 15, 2025 in Montreal, Canada. George Russell of Great Britain and Mercedes speaks in the FIA press conference following his race win during the F1 Grand Prix of Canada at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 15, 2025 in Montreal, Canada. Photo byRussell kept his cool and managed his tires well, leaving pace in the reserves while pumping out impressive laps. When Russell ran into lapped cars, the gap got tighter, but Verstappen never managed to get within DRS range of Russell. "Amazing day for the team," Russell told Nico Rosberg after the race. "The strength of our car is in these cooler conditions. We did have high expectations and it worked as we thought. Good day, good day.'" Sunday's win is a stunning result that highlights how amazing Russell has been this season, consistently outperforming expectations and putting together consistent race weekends. His performances are so good, in fact, that it makes Mercedes' decision to delay renewing Russell's contract baffling. What is George Russell's contract status? According to Spotrac, the 27-year-old driver earns $15 million this season, but he is a free agent after this season. His teammate, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, has a team option for the upcoming season, and given all of the resources that Mercedes invested in developing the Italian, the team is likely going to keep him for the foreseeable future. Antonelli reportedly makes $2 million this season and would make the same amount this upcoming season if his option is picked up. Other teams can open negotiations with Russell, though Mercedes partly represents Russell since he went through their academy, making those talks somewhat tricky. Why hasn't Russell signed a contract extension with Mercedes? Mercedes holds all of the cards in the negotiations, especially since all indications are that Russell is set on staying with the team. Team boss Toto Wolff is a fan of Russell, supporting the driver since he was a teenager. Reports indicate Wolff is also an admirer of Verstappen and would be willing to do anything to get his hands on the Dutch driver. Red Bull went through leadership turmoil last season, while Wolff made several comments about wanting to sign Verstappen. The move never materialized last season, but it could be possible that Wolff and Mercedes are waiting to see if another opportunity opens up. Russell's contract status will likely remain in limbo until Verstappen makes his plans for next season clear. If Verstappen does eye a move away from his current team, Russell might end up going to Red Bull, especially since there are few available top team race seats. Russell staying and signing a long-term deal is the likeliest outcome, but nothing is secure in Formula 1.

(Photo by) Advertisement Real Madrid, after all, have shifted their transfer policy greatly in recent years, focusing more on players with expiring contracts. This was indicative in Real Madrid's deals to sign David Alaba, Kylian Mbappe and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Real Madrid could be planning to pull a same move on Lewis-Skelly, although Romano adds that Arsenal are not too keen on releasing the player. The Gunners are confident of convincing the teenage prospect to sign a new deal at Emirates, which will secure his long-term future at the club. Bologna Could Offer Ex Inter Milan Star As Part Of Deal For Fiorentina Winger – Inter Haven't Activated Buyback Bologna could offer Giovanni Fabbian to Fiorentina as part of a deal for winger Riccardo Sottil, with Inter Milan not having exercised their buyback. This according to today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement Bologna are preparing for the possibility of losing winger Dan Ndoye this summer. There is a fair bit of transfer interest in the Swiss international. Particularly from Napoli. And according to the Corriere dello Sport, Bologna's top target to replace Ndoye is Fiorentina's Riccardo Sottil. (Photo by) According to the Corriere dello Sport, the Rossoblu could make a player-plus-cash offer to convince Fiorentina. They could put midfielder Giovanni Fabbian on the table. Advertisement There is one particular hitch in the idea of offering Fabbian to Fiorentina, however. That is the fact that Inter Milan still have a buyback option on the 22-year-old. Inter sold Giovanni Fabbian to Bologna in the summer of 2023. They sold him outright, rather than just loaning him out. However, the Nerazzurri did insert a buyback option in the deal. They can sign Fabbian back this summer for a fee of €12 million. Nevertheless, the Corriere report, that option expires at the end of this month. And as of yet, Inter have given no indication that they intend to activate it.
