Bake Off winner shares adorable baby news as Alison Hammond sends sweet message
Great British Bake Off winner Matty Edgell has announced he's expecting his first child with wife Lara and fans couldn't be happier.
The 2023 champ, 29, shared the adorable news on Instagram, posting a baby onesie with 'born in 2025' alongside a scan and a mini blanket reading 'Little WHU fan' - a sweet nod to his love for West Ham United.
'We can't wait to meet you,' he wrote, adding a white heart emoji.
Fellow Bake Off stars and fans quickly flooded the comments. Alison Hammond led the well-wishes, writing: 'Congratulations, how exciting.'
Cristy Sharp who came fourth in Matty's series added: 'Oh Matty, Lara!!!! I'm so happy for you guys!! Amazing news! ❤️❤️❤️'
Matty's bond with Alison was a major talking point during his time on the show, with viewers constantly teasing that the pair were secretly besties. One fan joked: 'Alison and Matty are in love and I cannot blame them,' while another wrote: 'Alison coming on to Matty is better than any dating show we've ever watched.'
The PE teacher-turned-baking star was crowned winner of series 14 after beating Dan Hunter and Josh Smalley in the final and days later, he announced his engagement to Lara.
He popped the question during a romantic getaway to Sorrento, Italy, calling it one of the 'happiest moments of his life.'
The couple tied the knot in May 2024, with Matty writing: 'Signed, sealed and delivered, she can't turn back now! We had the best time celebrating our special day with the people we love the most… P.S. How stunning does my wife look?'
Matty previously revealed it was Lara who encouraged him to apply for Bake Off, admitting he felt he 'wasn't good enough' to go for it.
Throughout the series, he called himself 'the official underdog' having learned most of his baking skills from his nan.
'I don't know what to say… everyone said you should go on Bake Off and I thought it was a throwaway comment and never really listened to it,' he said after winning. 'I never thought I would be on the show let alone win it!'
Before Bake Off fame, Matty worked as a PE and science teacher in Cambridgeshire, and said his students were 'impressed' when the show aired.
'The students at school were a bit impressed… I know they will think it's cool that I have won but at the same time, they will be really surprised.'
Since then, he's swapped school for baking leaving his 'much-loved' teaching job to follow his dreams.
'Bake Off gave me an opportunity to explore an avenue that was so far out of the equation,' he said. 'If I didn't take it, I would forever look back and think what if?'
Now, with a baby on the way and his career rising, it's safe to say Matty's next chapter is already off to a sweet start.

Jade Thirlwall calls out 'very privileged' Matty Healy for refusing to share his political beliefs: 'It's very easy for someone who's white and straight'
Jade Thirlwall isn't holding back when it comes to speaking up and has called out Matty Healy for refusing to share his political beliefs. The singer, 32, has said she is 'disappointed' that the 1975 frontman, 36, has shared that he 'doesn't want to share his political view' with fans. The Little Mix star has been publicly standing up for the LGBTQ community and advocating for Palestinian people who have been suffering for years amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. Now in a new interview, Jade has shared that she thinks it's impossible to separate music from social and political developments. She told The Guardian: 'I don't think you can be a pop artist and cover your eyes. I saw Matty Healy say that he doesn't want to be political, which I found disappointing.' Back in June, Matty made headlines for his comments during the band's 2025 Glastonbury set, he told the crowd: 'People who are watching this may be disappointed in the lack of politics in this show and our forthcoming shows and probably our future shows. 'I want you to know that it's a conscious decision. We honestly don't want our legacy to be one of politics. We want it to be that of love and friendship. 'I'm not trying to be too earnest, but you can go out into the world and there's loads of politics everywhere. We don't need more politics. We need more love and friendship.' Though he has previously referenced politics in his band's songs, such as 2018's 'Love It If We Made It'. Jade, however, believes Matty should think about why he can make the statement in the first place, she added: 'It's very easy for someone who's white and straight and very privileged to say that. Good for you, hun!' Daily Mail have contacted Matty Healy's representatives for comment. Elsewhere at Worthy Farm, Jade led the Woodsies stage in a passionate chant of 'F*** you' to Reform, welfare cuts, silencing protest, selling arms and among other things. She told the publication she was 'ready for backlash' but didn't care what people thought because she has 'always piped up' so they must not be real fans. The now soloist is currently gearing up to release her debut album, That's Showbiz Baby!, about the highs and lows of finding global fame on The X Factor in 2011. The Little Mix star has been publicly standing up for the LGBTQ community and advocating for Palestinian people who have been suffering for years amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war Jade has been using her career to bring light and stand up for political views she believes in. She has previously said she was warned about career backlash for speaking out on issues she is passionate about. Speaking to Stylist magazine recently, JADE said: 'I have been warned there could be consequences for speaking out about things like Palestine, but these are basic human rights. 'We're seeing an attack on the trans community, and I have a very big LGBTQ+ fanbase. 'I can't sit back and not be vocal about defending that community. I'm happy to pay the consequences if it means doing the right thing.' Earlier this year, she lead thousands of people in an anti-JK Rowling chant at an LGBTQ + festival. The former Little Mix star, known professionally as JADE, performed at Mighty Hoopla in London and during her performance, she sang one of her new songs FUFN (F*** You For Now) - using it to take aim at the Harry Potter author. 'Transphobes,' JADE shouted, as the crowd replied: 'F*** you'. She then turned attention to the writer, yelling ' JK Rowling ' to which the crowd chanted again: 'F*** you'. A festival-goer shared the clip online with the caption: 'Jade, the legend you are!!!' JK has denied being transphobic, but she previously said she would 'happily' go to jail for misgendering a trans person rather than referring to them by their preferred pronouns. She is also using the new Harry Potter series to fund organisations dedicated to removing trans rights, with her 'Women's Fund' website saying it will offer financial support to those fighting trans inclusion 'in the workplace, in public life, and in protected female spaces'. The author made her first controversial comments about trans people six years ago, and has long claimed their inclusion in spaces such as bathrooms is a threat to women. JK made her feelings known as she shared an article and pulled out a quote which said: 'Nothing I can say about the violent, fetishistic narcissism at the heart of trans activism is half as persuasive as what trans activists say themselves.' Showing she agreed with the message, JK wrote: 'This, by @HJoyceGender, is [bullseye emoji].' JK took to social media to state that 'nobody sane believes, or has ever believed, that humans can change sex, or that binary sex isn't a material fact'. The comments followed last month's Supreme Court ruling that in the 2010 Equality Act, the definition of the term 'women' relates only to biological women. The decision was hailed by gender-critical campaigners as a major victory, with the Harry Potter author saying it would protect 'the rights of women and girls across the UK'. Meanwhile JADE has a long history of showing support for the LGBTQ+ community, winning a Gay Times allyship award in 2021. She also won the Celebrity Ally Award at the 2025 LGBT Awards, with her boyfriend Jordan Stephens also receiving a nod in the category. The award was previously won by actor David Tennant in 2024. Recently, JADE signed an open letter pledging solidarity with the trans community following the recent UK Supreme Court ruling, alongside her former bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards. Other British artists to sign included Charli XCX, Florence Welch and Dua Lipa. Earlier this year, JADE used her BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend performance to make a statement about her allyship as she wore a dress in the trans pride flag colours. JADE's relationship with Rizzle Kicks star Jordan began through their passion for social justice, with the pair making their public debut at the Black Trans Lives Matter march in 2020.

Bake Off's Prue Leith visits restaurant for romantic date and is horrified by what happens
Bake Off's Prue Leith visits restaurant for romantic date and is horrified by what happens The Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith has shared her disapproval after explaining how a trip to a Michelin-starred restaurant before her wedding didn't exactly go according to plan Dame Prue was left dismayed after a visit to a high-end restaurant with her husband, John Playfair (Image: Simone Padovani/Awakening/Getty Images) Celebrity chef Dame Prue Leith has told how a romantic date with the Great British Bake Off star's now husband was ruined by a chef who was insistent on engaging in "foodie talk". Dame Prue said she and second husband John Playfair had planned to indulge in a meal at a swanky Michelin-starred restaurant before they exchanged their vows. Speaking to The Oldie magazine, the GBBO star claimed she was on the receiving end of constant "lectures" about the food that had been placed in front of them during their romantic date. Prue, 85, said she has become annoyed by the growing trend of restaurant staff explaining each element of the menu. The TV star says she and her husband-to-be were even handed a map of their food suppliers during their meal. She was particularly annoyed about being "lectured" in between courses (Image: Getty Images) Article continues below Her frustration was compounded when the chef came out of the kitchen for a chat as they were finally about to leave the restaurant. Prue says the cook was looking to engage in "foodie talk" and "wouldn't go away". She said: "Pandering to foodies, menu devisers now write essays on every course: 'Hand-dived Scottish king scallops, daily picked marsh samphire from the Solway Firth, Arran victory organic new potatoes'. " Prue's career in the food industry began in 1960 when she moved from her native South Africa to London to attend the Cordon Bleu Cookery School. She opened her first restaurant, Michelin-starred Leith's, in Notting Hill in 1969. Dame Prue has been hosting Great British Bake Off in 2017 (Image: Getty Images) She also opened a cookery school, Leith's School of Food and Wine, and has authored a number of cookbooks and written food columns for national newspapers. Prue became more prominent when she appeared as one of the experts on new show The Great British Menu in 2006, which she left to replace Dame Mary Berry on The Great British Bake Off in 2017. Despite recently stepping back from the celebrity edition, she has confirmed that she intends to remain on the main show alongside her fellow judge Paul Hollywood: "I've given up celebrity (version of the show), but I still do The Great American Bake Off, and I still do The Great British Bake Off. I'm a lover of them all." Dame Prue and John Playfair tied the knot in 2016 (Image: Getty Images) Prue added: "It's the best job in telly! I don't have to learn lines, I don't have to write a script, I don't have to rehearse. As you say, we all go and eat cake." Article continues below The TV star said "finally we can shout about it" as it was confirmed GBBO will return to Channel 4 on Tuesday, September 2 at 8pm. Dame Prue also appears on her own show, Prue Leith's Cotswold Kitchen show on ITV, where she opens her kitchen to the public and is joined by husband John and pals including GBBO co-star Alison Hammond and former co-star Sandi Toksvig.

Bake Off judge Prue Leith takes aim at waiter's 'lectures' which ruined romantic meal
Dame Prue Leith, who replaced Mary Berry on The Great British Bake Off in 2017, wanted to eat fish and chips at "what used to be a good pub" but struggled to find it on the menu Bake Off judge Dame Prue Leith blasted a restaurant after a waiter's "lectures" between courses dashed her hopes of a romantic dinner. The veteran broadcaster, who became a judge on The Great British Bake Off in 2017 to replace Mary Berry, slammed restaurants with increasingly complicated menus following her visit to an establishment with her husband. The star recalled she hoped to have an "intimate (I hoped romantic) dinner" but the waiter "gave us a lecture on every course". And so Prue, 85, conceded there was "no chance" of an intimate meal with her partner. The Cordon Bleu-trained chef wrote: "'The night before we got married, my husband-to-be and I went to a Michelin-starred restaurant for an intimate (I hoped romantic) dinner. "No chance of that. The waiter gave us a lecture on every course; we were handed a map of the location of the restaurant's suppliers and expected to read it... And at the end the chef emerged for praise and foodie talk and wouldn't go away." READ MORE: Make Jamie Oliver's fluffy flourless pancakes for the Bank Holiday in just 10 minutes Writing in The Oldie magazine, Prue also said she visited another restaurant - what she described as "what used to be a good pub" - in the hope to have fish and chips. However, the mum of two was unable to find this on the menu at first - until she examined the document more carefully. Prue, who was born in South Africa and moved to London in 1960, wrote: "I ordered 'Sustainability-certified North Sea halibut loin, coated in tempura-style batter made from Hook Norton Ironstone lager and Billy's free-range organic eggs. Served with 'locally grown Maris Piper potatoes, triple-fried in Cotswold Gold corn oil' Translation: fish and chips." And the presenter, who used to be on The Great British Menu, said her experience reflects how she believes eateries are "pandering to foodies". She said: "Pandering to foodies, menu-devisers now write essays on every course. "'Hand-dived Scottish king scallops, daily-picked marsh samphire from the Solway Firth, Arran Victory organic new potatoes' and on and on." The celebrity chef is also a prolific cookbook writer, columnist and author, publishing cookbooks and novels. She has enjoyed a 50-year television career which includes judging BBC's Great British Menu, on which she worked for 10 years. It comes as a restaurant server has been left gobsmacked after being issued with an 'entitled' list of demands for a 'particular' customer. The diner, who has visited their restaurant 22 times, has a particular list of rules and requirements when it comes to eating at their restaurant. Yet, rather than enjoy the experience for what it is, he has tailored it to his own needs, giving little to no regard for others who might be enjoying their dinner alongside him.
