Celebrity chef Dame Prue Leith has told how a romantic date with the Great British Bake Off star's now husband was ruined by a chef who was insistent on engaging in "foodie talk".
Dame Prue said she and second husband John Playfair had planned to indulge in a meal at a swanky Michelin-starred restaurant before they exchanged their vows.
Speaking to The Oldie magazine, the GBBO star claimed she was on the receiving end of constant "lectures" about the food that had been placed in front of them during their romantic date.
Prue, 85, said she has become annoyed by the growing trend of restaurant staff explaining each element of the menu.
The TV star says she and her husband-to-be were even handed a map of their food suppliers during their meal.

Her frustration was compounded when the chef came out of the kitchen for a chat as they were finally about to leave the restaurant.
Prue says the cook was looking to engage in "foodie talk" and "wouldn't go away". She said: "Pandering to foodies, menu devisers now write essays on every course: 'Hand-dived Scottish king scallops, daily picked marsh samphire from the Solway Firth, Arran victory organic new potatoes'. "
Prue's career in the food industry began in 1960 when she moved from her native South Africa to London to attend the Cordon Bleu Cookery School. She opened her first restaurant, Michelin-starred Leith's, in Notting Hill in 1969.

She also opened a cookery school, Leith's School of Food and Wine, and has authored a number of cookbooks and written food columns for national newspapers.
Prue became more prominent when she appeared as one of the experts on new show The Great British Menu in 2006, which she left to replace Dame Mary Berry on The Great British Bake Off in 2017.
Despite recently stepping back from the celebrity edition, she has confirmed that she intends to remain on the main show alongside her fellow judge Paul Hollywood: "I've given up celebrity (version of the show), but I still do The Great American Bake Off, and I still do The Great British Bake Off. I'm a lover of them all."

Prue added: "It's the best job in telly! I don't have to learn lines, I don't have to write a script, I don't have to rehearse. As you say, we all go and eat cake."

The TV star said "finally we can shout about it" as it was confirmed GBBO will return to Channel 4 on Tuesday, September 2 at 8pm.
Dame Prue also appears on her own show, Prue Leith's Cotswold Kitchen show on ITV, where she opens her kitchen to the public and is joined by husband John and pals including GBBO co-star Alison Hammond and former co-star Sandi Toksvig.

Beauty queen ‘headbutted' by celeb chef ex who rubbed shoulders with Beyonce and A-list fans at Michelin star restaurant
The French beauty alleged there was also emotional abuse which affected her even more severely 'ABUSE' SHOCK Beauty queen 'headbutted' by celeb chef ex who rubbed shoulders with Beyonce and A-list fans at Michelin star restaurant Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A FORMER Miss Europe beauty queen has claimed her celebrity chef ex-boyfriend headbutted her so hard it broke her nose. French model Alexandra Rosenfeld, 38, alleged that Jean Imbert - head chef at multiple glitzy restaurants in France - smashed her face while they were together in 2013. Imbert, 44, who shot to fame when he won the TV cooking competition Top Chef in 2012, denies the allegations. He heads up the Michelin-starred Plaza Athenée in Paris - where he has welcomed the likes of Beyonce and Jay-Z. The chef claims he was in fact the victim of Alexandra's violent behaviour. Alexandra won the Miss France competition in 2006, and was crowned Miss Europe later that year. She is one of four women who have told Elle magazine that Imbert showed allegedly controlling behaviour while they were in relationships with him. Their allegations add to a growing mound of claims that the French culinary industry is entrenched in sexism and violence. Alexandra first made the allegations under a false name and gave no identifying information. But this week, she posted a bombshell statement on Instagram along with the results of a scan reporting that her nose was broken. The medical notes said she had suffered a 'traumatism from a direct shock'. I thought my sister's doctor boyfriend was the 'perfect gentleman' but he abducted & killed her as she ran for her life Alexandra wrote: 'Over 10 years ago, I was with someone. He headbutted me once. But strangely, that wasn't what left a mark on me. 'The contempt, the belittling, the silences, the perfectly placed words to make me doubt myself, my worth. It was slow, insidious. "I thought the problem was me. I stayed. Because I loved him.' Alexandra said her relationship with Imbert because he left her for someone else. 6 The pair dated for around a year and a half from 2012-13 Credit: Getty 6 Jean Imbert is head chef at a number of prestigious restaurants, including a Michelin star establishment in Paris Credit: Getty But in January, he invited her and her family to the opening of La Forêt Secrète - a new restaurant at Disneyland Paris. She wrote: "I was surprised, touched," but added she suspects his intention was really to win her favour after learning of the Elle article. Alexandra continued: 'And then everything came back, this impression of being approached nicely in order to be placed in a hold.' Imbert's team has denied any allegations against him. They said the headbutt happened during a "moment of violence to which Jean Imbert was subjected when he was grabbed by the wrist and freed himself. "He profoundly regrets the consequences of this for her." The chef's publicists said the relationship had been "unsustainable, marked by insults and fits," and that Alexandra had sent insulting texts when it ended. They also denied the claims of jealousy and controlling behaviour made the other women in the Elle article.

Culloden cannonball sells for almost £19,000 at auction
The cannonball, engraved with the words 'Ogilvy Culloden 16 April 1746', had been expected to sell for between £3,000 and £5,000. However, it fetched £18,900 when it went under the hammer in Edinburgh on Wednesday at Lyon & Turnbull's Scotland Collected sale. A gown, reputedly worn at the Palace of Holyroodhouse by an 18th century Scottish noblewoman closely allied to the Jacobite cause, sold for £20,160, almost double the estimated price. The dress was one of more than 80 lots of Property from the Earls of Airlie, belonging to the Ogilvy family, which featured in the sale. Lyon & Turnbull's John Mackie, who is head of sale for Scotland Collected, said: 'It was an honour to handle these items which have a direct link to such an important part of Scotland's history. 'These pieces which sold today stood out in terms of both provenance and condition and so it was no surprise that there was such a great deal of interest leading up to the sale. 'The Airlie Collection featured objects with a link to well-known Scottish figures which heightened the appeal to buyers at home and abroad.' The prices include buyer's premium. The Battle of Culloden on April 16 1746 saw about 1,600 men killed in less than an hour and marked the end of the 1745 Jacobite rising. The iron cannonball sold in the auction has a silver collar with moulded rim where the words 'Ogilvy Culloden 16th April 1746' are engraved. The brocaded dress, originally estimated to fetch between £8,000 and £12,000, was reputedly worn by Lady Margaret Ogilvy, wife of David Ogilvy, 6th Earl of Airlie, when they attended a ball hosted by Prince Charles Edward Stuart, more commonly known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in 1745. Lady Margaret's gown has been on long-term loan to the Royal Collection at the Palace of Holyrood for the last 100 years and was most recently on display in the Queen's Lobby, next to the Great Gallery at Holyrood Palace.
