IT'S been just over a year since the first Rebus reboot aired – and in today's perilous TV world, that felt like a worryingly long time.
But fans of the show, starring Richard Rankin as the no-nonsense Edinburgh detective, will be relieved to know it is returning.

I can reveal a second series adapting Ian Rankin's acclaimed crime novels starts filming later this year and is expected to air on BBC One and iPlayer in 2026.
A TV insider said: 'Even though the first series did well in the ratings, the fact there was no update on a follow-up had a few devotees wondering if it would happen. After all, these days channels and streamers often announce a second outing before the first has finished airing. No news felt like bad news.
'It seems particularly surprising they took so long to confirm another outing, because the first one ended with a big twist that left audiences wanting more.'
The initial six-parter was lauded by critics and its debut episode consolidated with 6.3million viewers.
Season two sees Richard reprise the role of Detective Sergeant John Rebus and will explore the links between violent criminals in the city's drug trade and the bourgeois world of law and finance.
Ian Rankin, who is an executive producer on the show, said: 'Season one of Rebus ended on a cliffhanger. Only screenwriter Gregory Burke knows what happens next.
'So I'm hugely excited that season two will soon be with us. Rebus is back — mean, moody and as magnificent as ever.'
The first two TV adaptations of Rankin's Rebus novels were on ITV.
The original starred John Hannah in the lead role, while the second featured Ken Scott.
Seems like it was third time lucky with Richard.

Disney and ITV set for collab
DISNEY and ITV have announced a new first-of-its-kind initiative to carry each other's streaming services.
One will be 'A Taste of ITVX' and take shows like Love Island onto Disney+ while a 'Taste of Disney+' will see ITVX bag shows including The Bear and The Kardashians.

Joanna, who's been with Danny for 23 years, said; 'Do you know what I like? A Manchester accent.
'I'm just saying if I was to have really boring sex I'd say 'Can you speak to me in a Manchester accent because I'm bored s***less.''

Collins drama is booked
EASTENDERS star Michelle Collins has copped a fresh job in TV – making a BBC detective drama.
The actress – famous for playing Albert Square's manipulative Cindy Beale – is adapting The Late Train To Gipsy Hill, a novel by former MP Alan Johnson.
And it has now been commissioned.
The actress told Virgin Radio: 'Alan Johnson, the ex-Home Secretary, I optioned his books and I'm producing something with the BBC. Hopefully, filming will start end of next year. Nowadays, you've got to take control of your career.
'Those days are gone of waiting, listening for your agent to call.'
The story centres on an ordinary man swept up in a murder mystery after a chance encounter on a train.

THE 1% Club will hold its first ever rollover week this month, I can reveal.
The ITV quiz show – which normally airs on a Saturday night – will air over five consecutive week nights and any winnings that don't get bagged by contestants will carry over into the next day.
A insider on the series, hosted by Lee Mack, said: 'Will the money be won or could it be half a million by the Friday show? The Rollover is properly exciting.'
ITV will confirm the exact dates for the rollover week in due course.

LOU SANDERS has got serious beef with viewers of ITV's Dancing On Ice.
The comedian took part in the penultimate series in January 2024, and she thinks she knows why she didn't do too well.
Lou said: 'The people that watch the show are older women in the regions. And I thought lovely, I'll get on with them, I'm getting older and I wanted to move back to the regions. But these ones hate other women.
'Adele Roberts was fantastic. She happened to be queer and black as well. She was a really good ice skater and she came third in 2024.
'But it's always the cheeky chappy that wins because of women who don't like women.'
Well, that won't happen on Dancing On Ice any more.

BRIDGERTON star Simone Ashley is in the pink since shooting to fame on the Netflix period drama.
