Good news for apple farmers: Centre raises MIP of apples to Rs. 80/kg from Rs. 50/kg
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state spokesperson Chetan Singh Bragta shared the information during a press conference in Shimla on Friday. He described the move as a reflection of the Modi government's farmer- and horticulturist-friendly mindset, and credited its strong political will for the decision.
Calling it a visionary and bold step, Bragta said the hike in MIP will curb the illegal inflow of foreign apples and help local producers get fair prices for their produce. He also noted that this is a continuation of the government's pro-farmer policy, recalling that in 2023, the Modi government had introduced MIP for apples for the first time at 50 per kg, a step no previous administration had taken.
Highlighting India's efforts toward agricultural self-reliance, Bragta stated that no apples have been imported from China since 2018, highlighting the Modi government's clear and strict policy measures that prioritise local horticulture.
Turning his attention to the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government, Bragta questioned the state's efforts and asked what concrete steps the state government had taken for the orchardists so far, while the central government was taking such big decisions for the farmers.
Bragta reiterated that the Modi government remains committed to increasing farmer income, protecting their interests, and advancing the goal of a self-reliant India. He added that the latest MIP hike has brought new hope for the nation's apple producers. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], July 4 (ANI): Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy on Friday released the Aluminium Vision Document at the International Conference on Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices, organised by the Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress in Hyderabad. Addressing the gathering, Reddy said the Aluminium Vision Document reflects the Government's commitment to building a self-reliant and resource-secure India. He highlighted the aluminium sector's strategic role in enabling clean energy systems, electric mobility, and modern infrastructure. The document has been prepared through extensive consultations with industry stakeholders, including National Aluminium Company Ltd. (NALCO), Hindalco Industries Ltd., Vedanta Ltd., Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC) and leading associations such as the Aluminium Association of India (AAI), Aluminium Secondary Manufacturers Association (ASMA) and the Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI). According to a release by the Ministry of Mines, the document outlines a strategic roadmap to scale up aluminium production sixfold by 2047. It aims to expand bauxite production capacity to 150 MTPA, double the national aluminium recycling rate, promote the adoption of low-carbon technologies and strengthen raw material security through targeted policy reforms and institutional mechanisms. The Aluminium Vision Document aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 and sets the foundation for a globally competitive and environmentally responsible aluminium industry. In a post on social media platform X, the Ministry of Mines added, 'The document outlines a bold roadmap to scale aluminium output sixfold, raise bauxite capacity to 150 MTPA, boost recycling, and promote green technologies -- aligned with PM @narendramodi ji's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.' India is the 2nd largest Aluminium producer, and a top-10 producer in refined copper. Continued growth in aluminium and copper points toward continued strong economic activity in user sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive and machinery. In the non-ferrous metal sector, primary aluminium production in FY 2025-26 posted a growth of 1.5 per cent over the corresponding period last year, increasing to 3.47 lakh ton (LT) in FY 2025-26 (April) from 3.42 LT in FY 2024-25 (April). During the same comparative period, refined copper production has grown by 15.6 per cent from 0.45 LT to 0.52 LT. (ANI)

BEML unveils phase-I aerospace SEZ facility in Bengaluru
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 4 (ANI): Reaffirming its commitment to positioning Bengaluru as a global aerospace hub, BEML Limited inaugurated its newly built state-of-the-art warehousing facility, spread over 0.12 acres, at the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) Aerospace Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Bengaluru. The facility was inaugurated by Shri Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director, BEML, in the presence of Functional Directors, senior officials from BEML, and dignitaries from KIADB, an official release added. In a strategic move to bolster its Aerospace ambitions, the foundation stone for Phase II of the project, which will see the development of a 1.15 acres of land facility in the same SEZ, was also laid. BEML currently holds a total of 25 acres of land in the Aerospace SEZ, which it plans to develop into a vibrant industrial hub catering to the fast-growing defence and aviation sectors. This initiative marks a significant milestone in BEML's long-term vision of supporting India's aerospace growth and creating a robust supply chain ecosystem for global and domestic Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Speaking at the occasion, Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML said, 'The inauguration of this warehousing facility marks a significant step in BEML's journey to becoming a key enabler in India's aerospace and defence ecosystem. This is more than just infrastructure--it's a strategic foundation for future capabilities in advanced manufacturing, MRO services, and global exports aligned with international OEM standards.' The Aerospace SEZ facility, located near Kempegowda International Airport, is part of a larger plan that includes setting up a dedicated manufacturing unit over 20 acres to produce next-generation aerostructures, drones, aggregates, and components for the Air Defence and allied sectors. This unit will be developed through collaborations with global aerospace OEMs, establishing BEML as a key player in the international aerospace manufacturing landscape. To support its warehousing operations, BEML has entered into a strategic service agreement with M/s LOM SUPPLY CHAIN INDIA, a reputed logistics service provider with extensive experience in SEZ and Domestic Tariff Area operations. The facility is designed not only to support BEML's internal logistics, but also to offer warehousing and allied services to other OEMs, Tier-1, and Tier-2 players. With Bangalore's rapidly expanding warehousing and logistics sector, BEML's SEZ facility is ideally located to capitalize on connectivity via NH7, the Outer Ring Road, and proximity to the airport, making it an attractive hub for both domestic and global trade. This initiative is expected to generate over 500 employment opportunities in the region, further supporting local economic development. Nari Shakti: Astha Poonia becomes Indian Navy's first woman fighter pilot
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 4 (ANI): Sub Lieutenant Astha Poonia officially became the first woman to be streamed into the fighter stream of Naval Aviation. Paving the way for a new era of women fighter pilots in the force, and shattering barriers, Poonia also received the prestigious 'Wings of Gold' from Rear Admiral Janak Bevli, Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Air). According to the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Navy celebrated the graduation of the Second Basic Hawk Conversion Course at the Naval Air Station, INS Dega, in Visakhapatnam. Lieutenant Atul Kumar Dhull and Sub-Lieutenant Astha Poonia received the prestigious 'Wings of Gold' from Rear Admiral Janak Bevli, ACNS (Air) on July 3. Earlier on Thursday, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) cleared 10 capital acquisition proposals worth approximately Rs 1.05 lakh crore for the procurement of indigenously sourced quick reaction surface-to-air missiles, naval vessels, and other equipment. The DAC accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition proposals, including the procurement of Armoured Recovery Vehicles, Electronic Warfare System, Integrated Common Inventory Management System for the Tri-Services, and Surface-to-Air Missiles, according to an official statement from the Defence Ministry. The Council met for the first time after Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 in response to the heinous Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people. India's response was deliberate, precise, and strategic. Without crossing the Line of Control or international boundary, Indian forces struck terrorist infrastructure and eliminated multiple threats. Additionally, the ministry stated that AoNs were also accorded for the procurement of Moored Mines, Mine Countermeasure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mounts, and Submersible Autonomous Vessels, to enable the mitigation of potential risks posed to naval and Merchant Vessels. Earlier, on June 30, defence sources reported that the tri-services had submitted various proposals for procurement, including the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile System, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The project, worth around Rs 30,000 crore, would be critical for the Indian Army's air defence capabilities as the system can be effective against targets up to 30 km. The three aircraft would be acquired from an original equipment manufacturer and then be modified by the DRDO lab Centre for Airborne Systems in partnership with private partners. (ANI)
