UPSC aspirant caught using unfair means during govt job exam, barred for 3 years
The commission said the woman was found in possession of incriminating material that qualified as the use of unfair means during an exam.
"As the candidate has violated the rules of the Examination and is found to be guilty under the rule of the Examination - 12(1)(h) 'being in possession of or using unfair means during the examination'," the UPSC said in a post on Linkedin.
The commissions announced the cancellation of the aspirant's candidature for this year, and said she was debarred from appearing in all future examinations conducted by the UPSC for a period of 3 years.
The UPSC said that the decision was in line with standardisation of penalties, and also shared a document outlining how violation of rules is dealt with.
"Any candidate found guilty of indulging in unfair means or misconduct during examinations faces strict disciplinary action as per rules, including debarment from future examinations, as the strictest action," UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The official termed UPSC 'an epitome of merit and fair system' and said that the commission ensures that candidates get selected purely on merit basis.
The action against the UPSC aspirant comes over an year after the commission cancelled former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar's provisional candidature.
Puja allegedly misrepresented her identity and used forged documents to clear the 2022 civil services examination. She submitted fake Other Backward Class (OBC) and disability certificates, and claimed that her family income was ₹6 lakh per annum, to qualify for the OBC non-creamy layer category.
A detailed probe later revealed that her father had declared assets of ₹40 crore when he contested general elections as an Independent, and her family owned several immovable properties and vehicles.

Maharashtra local body elections to be held in phases, after Diwali, says SEC
The much awaited local body elections in Maharashtra will be held in phases after Diwali, said State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters in Nashik after taking a review of the poll preparedness in north Maharashtra, Waghmare also said VVPAT machines will not be used in the polls, a decision over which the Opposition has already raised questions. Waghmare said, 'The election process for the local bodies will begin post-Diwali. I am not announcing the dates but the process will begin by October end. There is a major human resource constraint on holding all elections together. Therefore, the elections will be in a phased manner.' Recalling that the Supreme Court has directed to hold the elections within four months, he said, 'The elections will be conducted based on voters' list finalised on July 1, 2025.' In Maharashtra, the local body polls will be nothing less than mini-assembly polls. In urban areas, out of 29 municipal corporations (Jalna and Ichalkaranji newly formed), all are now run by administrators, without an elected body. The state has a 248 municipal councils — all with administrators. Out of 147 nagar panchayats, newly formed ones are 42, where elections will be held. In rural Maharashtra, out of 34 zilla parishads, 32 have administrators, except for Bhandara and Gondia whose term will end in May 2027. In case of 351 panchayat samitis, 336 have administrators where elections will be held. Without announcing the sequence, Waghmare said, 'The entire process will be over by December end or mid-January 2026.' The SEC also mentioned that around 8,705 control units and more than 17,000 voting machines will be required. 'The VVPATs will not be used in the upcoming polls,' he said. While the Opposition questioned the move, sources within the State Election Commission said that VVPATs are never used in local body polls. 'The only time when VVPATs were used on an experimental basis was in two wards in the last election for Nanded Municipal Corporation,' said an official from the Commission. Opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare said that the decision raises questions over the transparency of the electoral process. A day before, the Supreme Court cleared the path for local body polls by upholding 27 per cent reservation for OBCs. ‘Statehood must be restored': Omar Abdullah writes to 42 parties; says people of J&K have waited long enough

In his letter dated July 29, Abdullah stressed that this issue goes beyond regional politics and touches the core values of the Indian Constitution and democracy. He warned that downgrading a state to a Union Territory sets a 'profound and unsettling' precedent and crosses a constitutional boundary that should never have been breached. "The act of reducing Jammu and Kashmir from a state to a Union territory in 2019 and the prolonged delay in restoring its status as a full state... has profound implications for the future of Indian polity," the three-page letter read. He noted that the reorganisation of state in August 2019 into a Union Territory was described as a 'temporary and transitional' measure. He criticised the current administrative setup as imbalanced and ineffective, a Union Territory with a legislature, but without real power. He said that officials from the Centre can overrule the decisions of the elected government, which weakens democracy. He added that the elections lose meaning if the government chosen by the people is not allowed to function. "I would reiterate that the restoration of statehood - and with it, the full constitutional and democratic rights of the people - is important not only for J-K but also vital for upholding the federal and democratic character of our Constitution," he said.
