'Enough' - NFL Fans Voice Displeasure With NBC's Carrie Underwood Decision
Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood has been the voice behind "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" for the past 12 NFL seasons. Will she keep that streak alive this fall?
Underwood took over for Faith Hill in 2013. Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long for fans to quickly fall in love with her version of the "Sunday Night Football" song.
On Wednesday afternoon, NBC confirmed that Underwood will continue to sing the "Sunday Night Football" anthem. Her first performance will be on Sept. 7 when the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills square off in a playoff rematch.
"For the 20th season of SNF, we wanted to set the tone for the night by reimagining the anthem sound in a way that plays to Carrie's powerhouse vocals, while visually creating a seamless blend of stylized shots and behind-the-scenes moments evoking the national roadshow that is Sunday Night Football, week after week in the fall," Tripp Dixon said.
Underwood added, "As always, Tripp and the creative team continue to raise the bar, bringing the high energy and stunning visuals that the Sunday Night Football audience has come to expect year after year. I can't wait for the world to see it!"
Even though Underwood teased "high energy and stunning visuals" for this year's opening song, NFL fans aren't exactly amped up to hear it.
"Maybe pick someone else," one fan wrote on X.
"Its been time to find a new song," a second fan said.
"Might be time to move on to someone who is actually relevant," another fan commented.
"The most asinine song choice for Sunday Night Football. Nobody has been waiting all day for Sunday night Football after they have been watching football the entire day," a fourth fan said.
Clearly, NBC isn't ready to move on from Underwood.

WWE SummerSlam Night 2 closes out WWE SummerSlam 2025 weekend with a bang, ending the two-night extravaganza with a stacked card on Sunday evening at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. After a busy Night 1, the momentum only ramps up more for the second half of the festivities. Sunday's card features six title matches, with all but two featuring extra stipulations. The hotly-anticipated main event rematch between Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena and former champion Cody Rhodes takes place under "Street Fight" rules. The last time Cena and Rhodes met was at WrestleMania 41 in April, when Cena dethroned Rhodes in his first match as a heel. Cena appeared to turn back to his classic babyface ways on this past Friday's "WWE SmackDown," however the question remains whether Cena's words were sincere or simply another ruse to distract Rhodes all over again. The Women's World title will once more be contested in a triple-threat match, as new champion Naomi defends against two of the former champions involved in this year's WrestleMania classic, Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley. They won't be the only women competing for gold though, as Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria battle it out in their bad-blood trilogy for Lynch's Intercontinental crown. There will be no DQs and no count-outs in that one, and if Valkyria loses, she'll be unable to ever challenge for the title again. Men's Intercontinental Champion Dominick Mysterio also be defends his belt against former champ AJ Styles after weeks of shenanigans on "WWE Raw." Then, rounding out the chaos, United States Champion Solo Sikoa will be locked in a Steel Cage for the latest chapter in his rivalry with Jacob Fatu. Yet all of these matches will surely pale in comparison to the WWE Tag Team title match. It will be Tables, Ladders and Chairs when the champions, The Wyatt Sicks, look to overcome five other teams.
