mySalam ignites Merdeka spirit at Karnival 3K Petra Jaya
Held in Samariang, Kuching, it attracted nearly 3,000 visitors, offering a platform for fostering unity and social support, especially for the Sarawak community.
Karnival 3K Petra Jaya was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister II and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
It symbolised the government's efforts to strengthen financial, health, and welfare protection for the people, in line with the Malaysia Madani aspiration that emphasises societal development focusing on well-being, inclusivity and resilience.
Also present at the event were Deputy Minister in the Premier's Department (Law, MA63 and StateFederal Relations, and ADUN N7) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Syed Aman Ghazali, Finance Ministry Secretary General of Treasury Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican, Great Eastern Takaful CEO Shahrul Azlan Shahriman, Malaysian Takaful Association CEO Mohd Radzuan Mohamed, and Head of mySalam Syuhaib Ithnin.
Since its implementation in 2019, Great Eastern Takaful, as the administrator of the mySalam scheme, has disbursed a total of RM1.25 billion in claims to 1.74 million individuals.
This figure reflects a continued commitment to supporting those in need, particularly the B40 group.
Beyond cash benefits and health protection, the scheme also plays a vital role in enhancing financial awareness and risk management among low-income communities.
'Karnival 3K is not just about aiding, but also about sharing information, enhancing accessibility, and creating opportunities for communities to holistically improve their quality of life.
'It reflects our ongoing efforts to support the Madani government's vision of building a more resilient, financially literate, and physically and mentally healthy society. We believe protection is not just a certificate, but a form of social support that can truly transform lives,' Syuhaib said in a statement.
Karnival 3K also featured various high-impact activities for the community. In the area of finance, financial literacy sessions were conducted to enhance understanding and skills in financial management.
Additionally, the government Perlindungan Tenang Vouchers (PTV) worth RM30 each to two million eligible Malaysians amounting to over RM60 million in total.
Targeting the same segment, the carnival also served as a promotional platform to encourage PTV redemption for improved protection coverage. These vouchers can be redeemed starting Sept 1, 2025, enabling recipients to participate in suitable takaful protection plans, including death benefits as an added value to the existing mySalam coverage.
Focusing on health, free health screenings were also provided by the Skim Peduli Kesihatan untuk Kumpulan B40 (PeKa B40), including basic check-ups and blood tests for visitors to assess their health condition.
This initiative aims to raise awareness in the aspect of health amongst the public and encourage early detection of diseases, especially non-communicable diseases that are increasingly prevalent among the B40 group.
In efforts to support those in need, 140 food baskets were donated to selected underprivileged families.
Sponsored by Great Eastern Takaful, Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA), and Mydin Kuching, this contribution symbolises care and compassion for less fortunate communities.
Beyond immediate assistance, the initiative also fosters empathy and solidarity within society, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness.
These activities were not only entertaining but also helped strengthen bonds among local communities while igniting a sense of patriotism in conjunction with the National Day celebration.
The carnival was organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Takaful Association and the P194 Parliamentary Office to ensure the benefits offered were effectively delivered to the target groups. –TMR

Malaysia enters phase two of water sector roadmap 2040 under 13MP
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is now moving into the second phase of the Water Sector Transformation Roadmap 2040 under the 13th Malaysia Plan to develop local technology that meets international standards. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof made this announcement during the opening ceremony of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant. He stated that AIR2040 aims to ensure affordable, sufficient, clean and quality water supply for the people. The roadmap also serves as a national agenda to transform the water sector into a dynamic economic sector. It will drive development and innovation of local water technology through strategic collaboration. Fadillah highlighted the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant as proof of local capability in large-scale water infrastructure. The plant features modern water treatment technology meeting international standards. He acknowledged that such infrastructure projects involve high costs due to modern technology. Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad played the role of financier and implementer for this project. This enabled construction at more optimal costs compared to commercial financing. Fadillah serves as both Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation. Under national restructuring, PAAB manages financing for water supply infrastructure in participating states. The financing model allows water operators to focus on operation and maintenance. This ensures management efficiency within the water supply system. It also helps maintain resilient and stable financial positions for water operators. AIR2040 plans to introduce alternative financing to strengthen sector sustainability. This approach reduces dependence on government funds for water projects. The ministry is exploring alternative water sources like reclaimed water for industrial use. Non-food industrial applications such as data centers are being considered. PETRA is focusing on reducing Non-Revenue Water through the 13MP. The Critical Pipe Replacement Programme will address this issue nationwide. Holistic NRW solutions and rebates for meeting targets form part of this effort. The NRW rate is expected to drop to 28.8 percent by 2030 through these programmes. Cooperation with state governments will continue for planning new water infrastructure. This ensures water supply needs for domestic and industrial users are met. State development requirements remain a priority in water infrastructure planning. - Bernama

Synergy Between Federal, State And Local Governments Key To 13MP Success
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the success of the aspirations under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) at the local government level could only be achieved through close synergy between the Federal Government, state governments and local authorities (PBTs). He said state governments needed to strengthen their commitment to policy development and legal frameworks to empower PBTs, while the PBTs themselves should be agile, innovative and people-oriented implementers with clear well-being indicators. Fadillah said the private sector and communities would continue to serve as strategic partners in local development.

Water and energy supply key to attracting investors says PM Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: The ability to provide sufficient water and energy supply is among the main attractions for investors in the semiconductor, data centre, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) sectors in Malaysia, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said this was further strengthened by the country's capacity to provide professional manpower expertise, which was a key strategic requirement for investors. 'These two aspects (water and energy) are very strategic, and I wish to emphasise that we will not be able to maintain Malaysia's credibility as a peaceful and competent nation if we cannot resolve matters related to water and energy. 'It is not only about providing (water and electricity facilities to investors), but also about how we manage the (prices) of water and energy at reasonable levels without burdening the people,' he said when officiating the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (LRA2) here today. Also present was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA). Meanwhile, Anwar said Malaysia continued to face wastage issues, particularly involving Non-Revenue Water (NRW) due to usage practices and weaknesses in the old piping system. He said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the minister responsible, had raised the matter numerous times during Cabinet meetings. Following discussions, it would be made one of the priorities under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). The Prime Minister said in terms of water management, ensuring comfort and meeting the people's needs remained the government's main priority. 'How can a country with an abundance of water, with floods two or three times a year, still face water shortages? That means something is wrong, not because of Allah's will, but due to a lack of human ingenuity. 'Take Jordan, for example. They may only have heavy rain two or three times a year, but they are able to store water for times of need. That is why our technology must not only focus on advancement but also ensure water-saving measures are in place,' said Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister. - Bernama
