Lily Allen does a 180 as she apologises for 'misogynistic' Katy Perry comments

Metro28-04-2025

Lily Allen has firmly backtracked on her comments towards Katy Perry after the Roar hitmaker made a historic trip to space.
Last week, pop star Lily, 39, was one of several celebrities criticising Katy, who was aboard a six-woman crew blasted into space as part of a Blue Origin flight.
The 40-year-old sang Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World as she reached zero gravity along with CBS Mornings presenter Gayle King, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, astronaut Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Jeff Bezos's partner Lauren Sanchez.
After landing back on Earth 10 minutes and 21 seconds later, however, Katy and co. were met with immense backlash, with Smile songstress Lily branding the whole thing 'so out of touch'.
Speaking on her Miss Me? podcast, which she co-hosts with pal Miquitta Oliver, Lily introduced the topic with: 'Katy Perry and her mates going up to space for 12 minutes…'
Miquita responded: 'If they're going to go up to space for 12 minutes, we can talk about it for 10 seconds and that's about all it deserves.'

Lily then asked incredulously: 'I mean, what the f***ing hell is that all about?'
She then ranted: 'I just think it's so out of touch we're on the brink of a recession, people are really struggling to make ends meet, it just seems like things are hard at the moment.'
Miquita questioned: 'Not really the most appropriate time to send Katy Perry into space?', to which Lily declared: 'For absolutely no reason! It's like we send people to space to discover things, for scientific reasons.'
Mocking how the flight was 'mad into some sort of feminist thing,' it was abundantly clear what her position was… until the next podcast ep, on which Lily has done a 180.
Reflecting on her earlier remarks, the LDN singer began: 'I would actually like to apologise for being mean about Katy Perry last week.
'There was actually no need for me to bring her name into it, and it was my own internalised misogyny.'
Lily continued: 'I've been thinking about it a lot, and it was just completely unnecessary to pile on with her.'
There's one point Lily stands strong on, though, but perhaps wishes she addressed it differently.
'I disagree with what it was that they did, but she wasn't the only person that did it.
'She was possibly the most famous and the one that divides people the most.'
As mentioned, Lily was far from the only person who had an issue with the space trip, with the likes of Emily Ratajkowski declaring herself 'disgusted' at the 'parody'.
'Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there?', the model vented to her followers.

'And then to try to make it like… I'm disgusted. Literally, I'm disgusted,' she concluded, visibly infuriated.
Meanwhile, reality star Vicky Pattinson stated that the mission doesn't represent 'feminism,' claiming its aim was to 'distract' people from how women's rights are being 'slowly, almost imperceptibly, taken away.'
Katy and the crew caught heat from social media too, with several moments from the day reaching viral meme status and becoming the subject of TikTok hot takes.
While Katy herself described the flight as 'life-changing,' broadcaster Gayle admitted to feeling 'saddened' and 'disappointed' by the reaction, insisting: 'There was nothing frivolous about what we do.'
Speaking to CBS Morning, she added: 'Space is not an either or. It's a both and, and because you do something in space, doesn't mean you're taking anything away from Earth. And what you're doing in space is trying to make things better here on Earth.
'What Blue Origin wants to do is take the waste here and figure out a way to put it in space to make our planet cleaner. Jeff Bezos has so many ideas, and the people that are working there are really devoted and dedicated to making our planet a better place. That's number one.' More Trending
Katy has since kickstarted her latest tour, which also hasn't gone down well.
The Lifetimes tour has been mercilessly ridiculed by X users, many of whom have urged Katy to cancel her shows completely and offer people refunds due to the 'cringe' nature of her routines.
Katy is performing 84 concerts, which will include eight in the UK later this year, although time will tell whether the reviews improve by then, since her choreography is currently being called 'the worst I have ever seen in my life'. Oh dear.

Tossing cabers and chasing kilts at Perthshire's Atholl Gathering

We've come to the Atholl Gathering, one of Scotland's most historic Highland Games, for a celebration of tradition, spectacle, and family fun. Blair Castle rises white and proud against the Perthshire hills, and its grounds are alive with kilts, cabers, and cannon fire. As a family with roots in Scotland but years spent elsewhere, we've always clung tightly to our heritage – none more so than on days like this. There's something deeply satisfying about being surrounded by tartan, cheering on pipers, and watching kilted competitors hurl logs in front of a castle. And with sunshine, cold rain, blustery wind and the promise of burgers, bouncy castles and a Highlander's dash, the day promised a classic 'four seasons in one day' Scottish adventure. We'd never been before, but its reputation as one of the more iconic Games intrigued us, especially since it's the only one in Scotland to feature a private army legally sanctioned by the monarch – the Atholl Highlanders, a ceremonial regiment that still marches under the command of the Duke of Atholl. The Gathering takes place on the beautiful Atholl Estates, stretching across some 145,000 acres of forests, rivers, and mountains. Blair Castle itself, all white turrets and baronial flair, has stood since the 13th century, and was once visited by Mary, Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie. This place breathes history, and the Atholl Gathering honours it in a way that's very much alive. We arrived on a sunny-but-showery Sunday as he car queue wound its way through tree-lined lanes toward the castle. Once parked, the familiar scent of fried onions hit us: a sure sign the fairground was nearby. Our daughter Lily, eagle-eyed for anything inflatable, immediately clocked the bouncy castle. But first: the arena. A large flat expanse with a gently sloping hill to one side gave everyone a perfect view, and the white glimmer of Blair Castle peeked through the trees. Bagpipes filled the air as solo pipers competed nearby – one of many ongoing contests throughout the day. Having missed out on lunch from the Seafood Bothy (note to self: bring cash next year), we grabbed burgers and fries. Lily devoured her cheeseburger with gusto before dragging us, finally, to the fairground – bouncy castle, inflatable slide, and carousel were all tested thoroughly. One of the day's most impressive spectacles was the opening ceremony, marked by the firing of a cannon by the Atholl Highlanders. Lily, having confidently claimed she wouldn't jump at the bang, did – of course – jump. Then came the massed pipes and drums, marching in formation, a stirring, goosebump-inducing moment. Lily, inspired, planned to 'practice her drum' when we got home. We weren't quite as enthusiastic about that. We settled into the hillside to watch the heavy events – shot put, wrestling, and the one we'd waited for: the Highlander's Dash. I was told this foot race involved Highlanders sprinting down hills in full regalia; but it was a loop around the arena, and though it lacked the steep descent I'd expected, the energy was no less electric. Later, it was time for the family races. Lily, only three, was too young for the youngest category and distraught that she couldn't compete in the events she'd been watching all day. I tried to take her to the start line with the hope they'd make an exception, but she got shy halfway there and backed out, so I decided to step in for the adult races instead. Now, let me clarify: I thought this was a short sprint. Turns out, it was a full lap around the arena. Not ideal when you're in the '40s' category and wearing big boots. After missing the starting gun (chatting to a steward in a kilt – understandable distraction), I joined the race, overtaken by 30-somethings as I gasped my way to the finish. But I crossed it – proudly, breathlessly – earning Lily's applause and a valuable parenting win: showing up and joining in. Between the races, we stopped for coffee and churros, watched the Highland dancers on a nearby stage, and later, sought out our own little patch of grass for our own family races so Lily could win (every time). Before heading home, we wandered up to the Hercules Garden, a beautifully restored 18th-century walled garden with ornamental bridges, lily ponds, and classical statues. Once abandoned, it was brought back to life in the 20th century. As we explored, Lupins in full bloom, Lily – still riding high on our foraging tour from a previous visit – tried to eat every plant she could reach. We gently suggested otherwise. Back in the arena, the caber toss was in full swing – massive tree trunks hoisted and hurled with skill and strength. One competitor's failed toss prompted Lily's sage analysis: 'He hasn't been eating enough salad.' Her logic? 'Salad makes you strong.' She eats her salad, so it must be true. As the final rain of the day soaked us through, we bundled into the car, wet clothes discarded, heat blasting, and hearts full. The Atholl Gathering had delivered everything: history, hilarity, community, and a deep sense of connection – not just to Scotland, but to something older, prouder, and enduring. If you've never been, go. Bring your waterproofs. And bring cash. Burntisland Highland Games – Monday, July 21 Burntisland Links, Fife Recognised as the second oldest Highland Games in the world, Burntisland's event combines traditional athletic contests with modern attractions. Visitors can witness heavyweight events, Highland dancing, and solo piping, all set against a scenic coastal backdrop. Crieff Highland Gathering – Sunday, August 17 Market Park, Crieff Known as Scotland's leading Highland Games, this gathering offers a comprehensive program of events. From heavyweight competitions and Highland dancing to cycling races and massed pipe bands, the day culminates in the stirring Salute to the Chieftain Strathmore Highland Games – Sunday, June 8 Glamis Castle, Angus Set against the majestic backdrop of Glamis Castle, attendees can enjoy traditional heavy events, Highland dancing, and piping competitions, all within the castle's historic grounds. Pitlochry Highland Games – Saturday, September 13 Recreation Ground, Pitlochry Concluding the Highland Games season, Pitlochry's event is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and scenic location. 'Exquisite' Amazon Prime show cancelled after only one series

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Amazon Prime Video have cancelled the TV series Étoile in spite of its impressive 85% fresh critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Helmed by Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, Étoile had initially been greenlit by the streaming service for two seasons. Debuting in April this year, its story followed the directors of two rival ballet companies as they attempted to save their institutions from collapse. In a last-ditch effort to save these world-renowned institutions, they hatch a plan to switch leading ladies, swapping their most talented stars in an ambitious gambit. Starring Luke Kirby and Nymphomaniac star Charlotte Gainsbourg as the ballet companies' directors, it was released to strong word of mouth and favourable reception from viewers. However, that apparently hasn't been enough to save Étoile, which has reportedly been axed after only one series. Fans reacted to the news with dismay on social media, with many writing of their disappointment that another show had met its end so prematurely. 'Amazon keeps cancelling the few shows on Prime I enjoy. Such shame for Etoile,' wrote marsjfields. 'Amazon Prime u are DEAD to me (My Lady Jane, Wheel of Time and now Etoile?????)' said suvanias. 'Étoile on Amazon Prime Video is reportedly being cancelled according to Deadline. Hard to believe this is not a stunt to attract more viewership. The show is phenomenal. Heartbroken if true. Loved the show,' commented danpavacic. Those reacting with disappointment are in sync with its positive Rotten Tomatoes score – having garnered an 85% 'Fresh' approval rating from critics on the review aggregator. 'Étoile is one of the most perfect, and I don't use that term lightly, pilots I've ever seen,' wrote Neely Swanson of the Beverley Hills Courier. 'As ravishing as it feels radical,' said Joey Moser of The Contending. Contributing a 76% score, audiences were just as full of praise, with the user Madison J describing it as a 'fabulous show with exquisite talent, a great story line and gorgeous scenes.' In April, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino weighed in on whether the second series would come to pass, telling Variety: 'You'll have to ask Amazon.' 'It's pending,' agreed husband and co-creator Daniel. Sadly, it looks as though that second series never will come to pass, unless Amazon, for some reason,n decide to pirouette on their decision to axe. The ballet comedy-drama was the latest collaboration from Gilmore Girls duo Amy and Daniel, who subsequently worked together on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. More Trending Their most beloved hit ended in 2007 with a follow-up miniseries in 2016, but fans remain hopeful that the Gilmore girls might one day return. Last year, star Lauren Graham reunited with screen mum Kelly Bishop, giving fresh hope that Friday night dinners might one day resume service. Series creator Amy weighed in on the chances of another revival, telling Variety: 'It would be delightful. We love the actors, we love the world, we love writing those characters. The time just has to be right. It's alchemy.' View More » Series One of Étoile is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video. Got a story?
