Brilliant Brickfield beat Buckley for first win of season

Rhyl Journal4 days ago
Gareth Wilson's charges made the step-up from the Ardal Leagues last season and they comfortably got the better of Buckley Town 4-0 to secure a first league success at the third time of asking.
After drawing a blank in the draw with Rhyl 1879 and defeat versus Caersws, it all clicked at last for Brickfield, with Danny Jones finding the back of the net twice.
Alex Darlington and Jay Richardson also struck for Gareth Wilson's charges, who moved themselves into fifth spot in the rankings.
It was a game to forget for Buckley boss Asa Hamilton, who told the club's Facebook page: 'No positives to take. If we don't pull our act together, we're going to be fighting relegation.'
Gresford Athletic opened their account with a crucial 2-1 triumph at home to Ruthin Town.
Athletic broke the deadlock two minutes shy of half-time. Dan Collins crossed into the box and Jake Roberts netted with a diving header.
Collins was the creator once more when Eddie Maurice-Jones' side doubled their advantage close to the hour mark.
He supplied a second assist of the encounter for Iwan Roberts to make it 2-0. Ruthin pulled one back late on through Alex Smith's own goal.
Mold Alex maintained their unbeaten league start with a 2-0 triumph away to Caersws.
Tyler Berry netted both of the goals in the first half to seal the deal, assisted by Cynan Edwards and Craig Rogers in the seventh and 17th minutes respectively.
Mold boss Barry Owen was understandably pleased after the match-up and he told the club's X site: 'Really happy... we came here and won last year.
'So, we wanted to repeat that. We know that they've started the season really well.
'We've got a lot of feedback on how they've been playing and I've got big respect for (Caersws manager) Craig (Williams) from when he was a player and, obviously, now as a manager, and I hope he does well - bar when he plays us, obviously!
'First half, I thought we were excellent. Really, one of the best performances that we've had since we've been at the club.
'We could have been four, five-nil up at half-time and I don't think anybody here could have argued, really. I thought we were really, really good.'
A tough trip to Llandudno saw Flint Mountain lose out 4-0.
Harvey Bennett's strike after a quarter-of-an-hour separated the teams at the interval, while Mark Cadwallader hit a quickfire double in the second half. Callum Stephens added the fourth.
Rhyl 1879 returned from Guilsfield having gathered a 3-2 triumph. Morgan Murray, Ben Lawrence and Archie Jones sealed things for the Lilywhites.

Clubs will still want a good start to Cymru North season

However, that's not to say that clubs don't want to gather three-point hauls when the Cymru North action kicks-off again later this month! Brickfield Rangers have made the step-up after brilliantly securing the Ardal North East League title last season and they open on Friday, July 25 with a trip to Rhyl 1879, who won the Ardal North West League. It will be a return to the club where he won honours galore for Rangers' boss Gareth Wilson. Two Flintshire derbies are the pick of the matches the following day. Last season's runners-up Airbus visit Buckley Town, while Holywell Town, who finished in third spot, host Flint Mountain. There are opening Saturday home games for Gresford Athletic and Mold Alex, who tackle Guilsfield and Penrhyncoch respectively. Brickfield's first home match will come against Buckley Town on August 9, while on the same day, Airbus welcome Holyhead Hotspur and there are away days for Mold Alex and Holywell Town against Caersws and Denbigh Town respectively. On August 8, Flint Mountain are at home to Llandudno and Gresford entertain Ruthin. Christmas crackers are sure to be in store with half-a-dozen tasty Boxing Day encounters. Amongst there will be Holywell's clash away to Flint Mountain, Buckley at Llandudno, Mold hosting Caersws and Airbus heading to Newtown. On December 27, there's a big showdown as Gresford host Brickfield, while Eddie Maurice-Jones' Athletic visit Denbigh on New Year's Day. Airbus are at home to Flint Mountain on the same day, while Mold make the short trip to Buckley, and Holywell host Holyhead. Brickfield's first game of 2026 is at home to Guilsfield on January 3. The season draws to a close on April 18, 2026, with Airbus, Brickfield and Mold Alex at home to Llandudno, Holywell and Flint Mountain respectively. Gresford go to Guilsfield and Buckley make the long trek to Holyhead. Dan Collins has made a loan switch from Airbus to Gresford Athletic. Last season, Collins made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Wingmakers, helping the side to win three trophies. He will be on loan at Gresford until January. Airbus boss Mark Allen told the club's website: 'A good opportunity for Dan to get some game time at Gresford. 'He is very highly thought of at Airbus and unfortunately mainly to injuries his game time was limited last season. 'Playing at Gresford will be a good learning curve for him and allow him to develop and become more accustomed to the league.' Gresford manager Maurice-Jones said: 'It's brilliant news to secure the loan signing of Dan - an unbelievably talented footballer, who brings exceptional quality to our squad. 'Dan is brilliant in possession, intelligent in finding space and a constant creative threat going forward. He also brings a winning mentality that aligns perfectly with our ambitions for this season. 'Despite his young age, Dan already boasts a wealth of experience and we're confident that he'll make a big impact.' There are three friendlies tonight with Cefn Albion at home to Rhyl 1879. Llay Welfare host Denbigh Town and Hawarden Rangers go to Yr Wyddgrug.

Derby dates set for supporters of Newtown and Caersws

NEWTOWN fans may have hoped they had seen the last of Friday night football following their relegation from the JD Cymru Premier. However, Robins fans can look forward to a Friday night opener at home to Ruthin Town in next season's JD Cymru North on Friday, July 25. Caersws are also in action on Friday night when they travel to Denbigh Town. Guilsfield open their campaign on Saturday, July 26 when they travel to Gresford Athletic with the Wrexham club continuing to be based in Broughton. Penrhyncoch begin their season at Mold Alexandra on Saturday, July 26. Newtown will host Caersws on Monday, August 25 for the return of the Powys derby. Meanwhile hopes of a revival of the Boxing Day festive derbies between Newtown and Caersws have been dashed. Instead Newtown will host Airbus UK Broughton while Caersws travel to Mold Alexandra. However, Powys football fans can look forward to a festive derby of sorts when Guilsfield host Penrhyncoch on December 27. Caersws will host Newtown on New Year's Day 2026 in the return fixture of the Powys derby.
