ITV Coronation Street issues ‘be vigilant' warning to soap fans using social med
Coronation Street has issued warnings to fans in a social media statement.
It has become known to people behind the scenes at the soap that fans are falling victim to another type of scam.
Back at the start of this year, both Corrie and Emmerdale accounts shared on social media platform X that scammers were pretending to be stars from the shows.
The statement said: 'Please be aware that actors from both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are currently being impersonated by scammers across all social media platforms.
'No cast member will ever directly request money for messages, meetings or any kind of personal interaction on social media.
'We are aware these sophisticated impersonations can include deep-fake footage (where it appears to be the actor talking but isn't) and personal messages which seem to be realistic and in character. We urge everybody to be vigilant. Please report any concerns to the relevant platform.'
They concluded: 'The legitimate way of meeting with real members of the cast is via official 'meet and greet' events run by ITV Star Tours.'
This time, audience members are being targeted by con artists pretending to be from the Coronation Street casting department – claiming to offer them a part in their favourite soap. Metro understands that fans of Emmerdale have been approached too.
To warn people about the cruel trick, the Corrie X account once again shared a message online, this time saying: 'We are aware that there are some accounts impersonating the Casting department at Coronation Street on social media platforms.
'Our Casting team only uses official methods of communication, this does not involve direct messages on Twitter or any other social media.
'Please be careful when communicating online and report any concerns to the relevant platform.'
This comes after Emmerdale favourite Lisa Riley told her fans not to believe AI bots pretending to be her online.
The actress, 48, is best known for her role as Mandy Dingle, said on Instagram: 'Hello everybody, it's Lisa here. Now, I have to keep reiterating this, please, and please listen.'
'If something is not on my page – and my page is blue-ticked – then it is not real,' she stated, referencing the social media network's notable person verification system.

'Inspiring' Lewis Capaldi surprises fans again after secret Glastonbury set
Lewis Capaldi surprised another set of festival goers a day after his Glastonbury performance and was hailed for being an inspiration Lewis Capaldi has been at it again after an emotional Glastonbury comeback on Friday. The Scottish singer stunned the Worthy Farm crowd with a surprise set at this year's festival. But it wasn't just the British fans he wanted to make it up to. Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the Someone You Loved singer, 28, wrote: "Had to come back and make it up to you all x" And in similar fashion to his gig a day earlier, Lewis surprised fans in Switzerland after previously having to pull out of a show in 2023. The clip shared by Lewis showed the crowd being told in Switzerland in 2023: "Lewis Capaldi can't sing for us right now. "So we're going to sing for Lewis Capaldi." The scenes showed how the crowd at the time at OpenAir St Gallen coming together to show support for the star by singing his hit tune. Lewis then told his followers: "You filled in for me when I couldn't be there." And a video then showed him walking back on stage to huge applause as he said: "Switzerland 2025 I wanted to make it up to you." After waving at his adoring crowd, he then said: "My name's Lewis Capaldi and I'm f***ing back baby. Here we go." He paused mid song once again to emotionally take in the moment as the crowd serenaded him. As he finished the song he shared a sweet laugh at the scenes as fans flashed love heart signs with their hands. Fans in the comment section were keen to also share their support to the pop star. More info Nearly two million people interacted with a live broadcast of Kneecap from Glastonbury shared by a cafe owner from Wales. Helen Wilson, whose Instagram bio describes her as a vegan chef and yoga teacher, said she decided to broadcast the Irish rap trio's performance on the West Holts stage because the BBC were refusing to show it live. A screenshot of her live broadcast on TikTok shows that some 1.8m people had liked it. Helen filmed a second live to thank everyone who watched and had messaged her after her epic live broadcast. She said her phone had overheated and she had been forced to abandon two pints of cider during the broadcast. She said: "I knew it wasn't going to be on the BBC so I thought I am just going to do this. My phone overheated and I abandoned two pints of cider. "My arm is hurting a bit. My feet are filthy. I'm pretty battered". She said: "I took part in a pro Palestine march at the stone circle. I had the idea to go live, got a couple of pints and went live. Very quickly I had 1,000 watching and it grew and grew and grew so I then thought I can't stop now and people were saying we need to see more so I got back in the pit"." A screenshot of her broadcast shared by Guardian journalist Lisa O'Carroll shows that there were 1.8m likes on the live broadcast suggesting nearly two million people had interacted with it. It is the place where free speech is welcome and there's no reason why the BBC shouldn't have shown that set."
