Aamir Khan says he was fired from Yash Chopra's Darr because he wanted a joint narration with Sunny Deol: ‘I didn't say no, I was removed'
Yash Chopra's Darr was a pivotal film in Shah Rukh Khan's career. Starring alongside Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol, this film had SRK playing the role of an obsessive stalker who is determined to be with the woman he loves, even if he has to murder the people around her. But, before Shah Rukh, the role was presented to Aamir Khan. In a recent interview, Aamir said that he was fired from Darr by Yash Chopra because he insisted on a joint narration with the two heroes of the film but Yash refused to do so.
In a chat with Zoom, Aamir was talking about films that he refused to do, which later went on to become big hits. Here, the topic of Darr came up and Aamir corrected the interviewer and said that he didn't refuse the film, but was actually fired from it. 'I didn't say no to Darr. I said yes but I was fired from the film because I wanted a joint narration. There were two actors and I have this principle that if there are two actors then the director should give a joint narration and Yash ji did not want to do that so he fired me. Everyone has their own way of working. I think when two people are working together, they should listen to the narration together so we can work together as a team,' he said. Aamir said that he believes that if there are more actors, 'they should all listen to the film together.' 'That didn't happen in Darr so I was fired. I was removed from Darr.'

Aamir said that he followed the same principle in Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna where he starred with Salman Khan. He shared that Salman cancelled the narration thrice but Aamir was insistent that they should hear the narration at the same time so they both have enough clarity about their parts in the film. 'Like in Andaz Apna Apna when Rajkumar Santoshi was narrating for the first time… Salman cancelled the meeting thrice. We got there but he wasn't present. His secretary said, 'Salman will listen to it later, you guys carry on, he is doing the film'. I said I won't listen to it either. I will only listen to it when Salman is present. He cancelled thrice but we finally listened to it together,' he said.
After the release of Darr, Sunny Deol was quite upset with Yash and Shah Rukh as he believed that his character was given less importance than Shah Rukh's even though he was playing the traditional hero in the film. So much so that Sunny and Shah Rukh had a decades-long beef which was only resolved after SRK attended the success party of Gadar 2 in 2023.

Salman Khan's Sanam Bewafa Was Almost Madhoo's Debut: ‘Auditioned But Didn't Get'
Last Updated: Madhoo Shah reveals if she regrets passing Baazigar, which became Shilpa Shetty's debut. She also recalls auditioning for Sanam Bewafa and not being able to work with SRK. In a career spanning over three decades, Madhoo Shah worked with some of the biggest names in show business – Mammootty, Mohanlal, Rishi Kapoor, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, among others. However, she never got to share screen space with the Khan trifecta of Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. Not many know that she was supposed to collaborate with two of them but those films didn't materialise for her. Now, speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, Madhoo reveals that she couldn't crack the auditions for one of Salman's hit films of 1991. Talking about auditioning for Sanam Bewafa, she tells us, 'My first offer opposite Salman was a film that was directed by Sawan Kumar Tuk. He had auditioned me for it. I didn't get the part but Chandni went on to do the role. Her name was Rukhsar in the film." Her film with Shah Rukh was also put in the backburner. 'With Shah Rukh also, I had an offer. But the film got shelved and we didn't get to share screen space ever. I hadn't received any film offer opposite Aamir. So, I haven't worked with any of the three Khans," she says. Madhoo was also offered the role of Shilpa Shetty Kundra in Baazigar but she turned it down as she didn't want to play a supporting role. But does she hold any regret for letting a film go that went on to become a cult classic? 'I would like to ideally and fashionably say that I don't regret any of my decisions. I've never spared a thought on that. I never sat down and whined that ki maine yeh kya kar diya! Baazigar didn't happen and that's okay. In a way, it came to me and didn't come to me," she remarks. Madhoo further adds, 'The film was meant for Shilpa and it went to her and she did it just like Roja was meant for me. It was her debut and she was just stunning in it. But the thought that Baazigar had come my way is definitely on my mind because it had great music and Shah Rukh and was a great success." Destiny plays a big role, Madhoo believes, who shares that many popular women actors had also auditioned for Roja, but the film was fated to fall into her lap. 'I never even knew there was a big auditioning process for Roja. I was doing a film called Azhagan with K Balachander sir. It so happened that in one of the schedules, he told me that Mani Ratnam wants to meet me. On a Sunday when I wasn't shooting for Azhagan, I went to meet him casually. Suhasini [Mani Ratnam's wife] was also there. He gave me a scene to read and the next thing I know, he gave the schedule to my father. But even today, I meet so many actors, some even established ones, who tell me that they had auditioned for Roja," she recalls. First Published:

New Delhi: Bollywood megastar Aamir Khan recently revealed that he experienced a complete blackout after getting drunk at his 60th birthday bash, which he celebrated on March 14. In the latest episode of The Bombay Journey for Mashable India, Aamir shared that the party was organized by his daughter Ira Khan and ex-wife Reena Dutta, who invited all his loved ones and well-wishers. Although Aamir has almost completely quit drinking, he gave in to his friends' insistence and had a few drinks that evening which hit him unexpectedly hard. He said,'Yaar, bohot interesting hua. Ira, Reena, everyone organised a birthday party for me on my 60th. They invited all my loved ones. It was a memorable day, like all the memories will stay with me. I don't drink much these days, I've cut down alcohol consumption to almost zero. But that day, because it was my 60th birthday, everybody insisted that I have a drink. Toh maine kaha theek hai. Aur kyunki mujhe aadat nahi hai, bohot jaldi chadh gayi mujhe. (So I said okay. And since I'm not used to it, it hit me really fast). We started at around 7 pm, and by 9 pm, I knew that I was flying.' Although it was a special day, Aamir confessed that he has no memory of most of it due to a "clean blackout." He mentioned that there are photos and videos from the evening where people said nice things about him, but he doesn't remember any of it. Aamir Khan on Why He Quit Drinking Earlier, Aamir had revealed that he gave up alcohol because he lacked control while drinking. However, he admitted that he still smokes a pipe. In a candid conversation with actor Nana Patekar, Aamir opened up about his biggest personal struggle — his lack of discipline. While he maintains strong discipline in his professional life, especially with films, he described himself as an "extremist" in other areas. 'I smoke a pipe. Now I have quit drinking, but at one point, I used to drink. And when I used to drink, I would drink all night,' he said. On the Work Front, Aamir Khan is gearing up for the release of his much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna. The film is a remake of the Spanish movie Campeones and is slated to hit theatres on June 20.
