Mark Lee wins Best Actor prize at 1st Asian Art Film Awards in Macau
Singaporean actor Mark Lee has a new feather in his cap after winning the Best Actor accolade at the 1st Asian Art Film Awards in Macau on April 23.
The 56-year-old clinched the award under the Pioneer Trend section for his role as a drag queen in comedy-drama Number 2 .
He beat South Korea's Kim Dae-gun, China's Xiaoshenyang, Sun Junsheng and Yao Lu, as well as Kazakhstan's Azamat Nigmanov.
Number 2 is a sequel to Number 1 , which earned Lee a nomination for Best Leading Actor at Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards in 2020.
The win in Macau was Lee's second international film award. He was named Best Actor at the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival in Vietnam in April 2024 for his role as a single father in the period film Wonderland.
Lee was unable to attend the ceremony in Macau due to work commitments. The award was accepted on his behalf by his co-star Jaspers Lai, who was also the screenwriter of Number 2.
'I had prepared an acceptance speech for Jaspers, thinking it would not be used, but it was,' Lee told Chinese-language daily Lianhe Zaobao in a report published on April 24. 'I am very excited to win the award, but it's a pity that I couldn't be there in person.'
Lee's wife Cathering Ng posted a video of the Best Actor announcement on Instagram late on April 23, tagging him in the post.
'This honour belongs to you, and all the partners who have put their heart and soul into the film,' she wrote in Chinese. 'Your professionalism, persistence and enthusiasm have helped the movie and him to succeed.'
Lee told Zaobao that he will be filming two movies overseas in June and July, without disclosing further details. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

He presented his 'acceptance letter' and emails that looked legit enough to fool anyone. Impressed by his story, Sivarraajh took him to meet the MIC president. The boss was thrilled to meet an ambitious young Malaysian Indian and decided to back him with RM15,000 for his trip to Kenya. 'Look, if the kid got conned, we feel bad for him,' said Sivarraajh, adding that nobody should have their dreams messed with by scammers. Photographer Calls Out the Scam Professional photographer Syahrin Abd Aziz was one of the first to suspect something was amiss with the entire National Geographic story. He pointed out major red flags: the guy had to fund his own 'assignment,' his animal photos were actually taken at Zoo Negara, and nobody in Malaysia's tight-knit photography scene had ever heard of him. 'Getting an assignment from National Geographic isn't easy – you need a powerful portfolio and extensive experience,' Syahrin explained. He emphasised that National Geographic rarely works with newcomers, preferring established photographers who are already household names in the field of photojournalism. The photographer noted that when National Geographic assigns real assignments, they provide a representative and cover the costs – they don't require you to pay your own way. Announcing the good news on Instagram on Aug 13, he joked about how he should now be called 'Ellis' dad'. The 41-year-old thanked his wife, 32, for her unwavering perseverance in her journey to becoming a mother. Calling their newborn a 'rainbow baby', Lee recounted how the past five years had been anything but easy for the couple after they lost their first child in July 2020. Lin was six months pregnant when she suffered a miscarriage after returning to Taiwan to prepare for the birth of their baby boy, nicknamed Xiao Dou Ya (Little Bean Sprout). Lee was then in Singapore for work and could not leave the country to be with her because of Covid-19 travel restrictions. He managed to reunite with her in August that year, and they subsequently spent three months in Taiwan to heal from the grief together. He apologised to his followers for keeping their second pregnancy a secret. He said: 'My wife and I have faced countless setbacks, and there were moments when I couldn't bear to see her disappointed. At times, I asked if we should give up, simply because I couldn't stand watching her suffer. 'The wait has been long, but the moment I saw the smile on our rainbow baby's face, I knew every second was worth it.' Lee also apologised for turning down work over the past year to be with his wife. Lin shared her heartfelt post on Instagram on Aug 13, writing in Chinese that the past few years had been 'incredibly challenging'. 'Facing physical, mental and emotional strain, and concerns from everyone, I've managed to appear calm and composed. But in reality, I've become incredibly sensitive and insecure,' she admitted. She added that she had been living under a constant barrage of repressed emotions and spent almost the entire pregnancy at home. Addressing her daughter in her post, Lin said: 'Thank you for choosing me to be your mother, thank you for working so hard to grow up, thank you for giving me the courage to face my birthday and thank you for piecing together the broken me bit by bit.' (Video) 'Your Love': 4 Fun Facts About BLACKPINK Jisoo's Latest Music Video
Just because BLACKPINK is currently on their DEADLINE World Tour, it does not mean they are too busy to promote their solo projects. Member Jisoo (김지수) recently released a special music video for 'Your Love', the second track from her debut solo album 'AMORTAGE'. The song is one of two from the record sung entirely in English. It quickly became a fan favourite shortly after the album's release, with many fans requesting that it be accompanied by a music video. Now that it is up on YouTube, let's take a closer look at this latest project. Here are some fun facts about the special music video: 1. It was filmed in Singapore Although the music video may appear to use CGI at first glance, the title confirmed that it was a collaboration between Jisoo and Rainforest Wild Asia in Singapore. That's right, the paradise seen in the video was filmed at a real location. The video features the idol singing amid a lush tropical rainforest, as well as within a man-made cave system. It has not been revealed exactly when the video was filmed, but we can assume that it was during the vocalist's visit to Singapore back in March during her appearance at Far East Malls for a pop-up event celebrating the album release. Rainforest Wild ASIA is launching a special 'Your Love' event In celebration of the music video's release and the collaboration, Rainforest Wild Asia is launching a special event inviting fans to follow in Jisoo's footsteps and experience the beautiful locations featured in the video.
