Govt committed to providing jobs to skilled youth: CM

on Tuesday emphasised equipping the youth with cutting-edge skills such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital literacy and said the state govt has over the last 8 years taken several decisive steps to transform 'scale into skill'.
"Skilled youth are the backbone of a self-reliant India and the double-engine govt is committed to providing jobs and self-employment opportunities," Yogi said during his inaugural address at the Skill Fair and Exhibition on World Youth Skills Day.
He said as part of this digital empowerment mission, the state is distributing smartphones and tablets to 2 crore youth, of which 50 lakh have already benefited.
Addressing the gathering, he said UP holds immense potential, with almost 60% of its 25 crore population falling in the working-age category.
"For this, we are making consistent efforts in generating employment for youth," he said.
Yogi noted that this year's theme — "Youth Empowerment through AI and Digital Skills" — is particularly significant for the state, as it aligns with the govt's broader vision of steering the youth toward a tech-driven future.
UP currently has around 400 govt and 3,000 private ITIs, where skill development training is offered at minimal cost.

Students enrolled in private ITIs also receive scholarships and incentives. "Every youth deserves access to training and employment that reflects their talents and aspirations," he said.
Speaking about the state's investment-driven growth, the CM highlighted that over the past eight years, enhanced law and order and investor-friendly policies resulted in the implementation of investment proposals worth over Rs 15 lakh crore which in turn created lakhs of jobs.
Referring to the CM Yuva Scheme, Yogi said youth with skill development, ITI, polytechnic, or academic degrees are being offered interest-free loans up to Rs 5 lakh. Launched on Jan 24 this year, the scheme has already benefited over 50,000 youth. Under this, only the principal amount needs to be paid by the beneficiaries while the govt covers the interest. An additional loan facility of up to Rs 7.5 lakh will also be made available for scaling up.
He also highlighted the govt's efforts in reviving traditional industries through flagship schemes like One District One Product (ODOP) and Mukhyamantri Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana.
He said under ODOP, over 1.5 crore people gained employment while more than 1 lakh artisans and craftsmen received training and toolkits under the Vishwakarma Yojana. These initiatives, he said, significantly strengthened the rural economy.
Yogi also lauded the success stories of 15 youth who were recognised for their outstanding work.
"Of these, many were aimless after completing formal education, but skill development transformed their lives. Today, they are earning between Rs 25,000 and Rs 1,00,000 per month," the CM said.
Underscoring the need for greater synergy between educational institutions and industries, Yogi apprised the audience about an initiative where students engaged in industrial training complete their project work within industries, thereby gaining real-world experience.
As part of this, the govt will offer a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for one year under the PM and CM internship schemes. After the internship, industries may choose to recruit the interns, or the experience will help them secure employment elsewhere.
Highlighting the role of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Yogi said the policy empowers students to pursue academic degrees and skill-based training simultaneously.
He praised the collaborative efforts of the secondary education department and ITIs, which are now offering vocational education within schools, allowing students to pursue dual degrees or certificate programmes.
He also pointed to emerging opportunities in futuristic sectors such as drone technology, robotics, artificial intelligence and 3D printing while reaffirming the continued demand for skilled professionals in traditional trades like plumbing, electrical work and air conditioning repair.
"Our goal is to align youth training with market demands to ensure maximum employability," he said.
Director, UP Skill Development Mission, Pulkit Khare, said the CM presented the 'Youth Icon' award to 15 outstanding youths and handed over appointment letters to 11 candidates during the event. He also flagged off five skill chariots to spread awareness across the state. In addition, industry representatives were honoured with the 'Industry Ambassador' award.
An MoU was also signed with Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Prayagraj, appointing it as a knowledge partner.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday underlined the urgent need to enhance research and innovation in the agriculture sector as he highlighted the state's rich natural resources and a robust network of agricultural institutions. Speaking at the 36th Foundation Day of the Uttar Pradesh Council of Agricultural Research and a national seminar in Lucknow, the Chief Minister said, 'Nature and God have been kind to Uttar Pradesh -- we have vast fertile land, abundant water resources, and over 86 per cent of cultivable land is irrigated. Yet, our research outcomes and their implementation remain limited.' He pointed out that only 25-30 per cent of farmers in the state are currently able to apply scientific research effectively in their fields, which he described as a concerning statistic given the state's agricultural potential. 'With just 11 per cent of the country's agricultural land, Uttar Pradesh produces over 20 per cent of India's total foodgrain output. But I firmly believe that if we fully utilise our land, water, and research capabilities, we can triple our current productivity,' he said. Adityanath called for a focused and sustained push toward agricultural research and innovation to realise this potential. He reminded the audience, which included scientists and researchers, that 'nations that have invested in R&D have progressed the most -- whether it's in space science, IT, or atomic research.' He stressed that Uttar Pradesh has the capacity not only to feed the country but to contribute significantly to global food security, especially in sectors like horticulture and vegetables. Highlighting the mismatch between foreign solutions and local needs, he said, 'What works for Europe may not work for India. We need research tailored to our soil, climate and environment.' CM Adityanath said over 15 agricultural research institutions, along with 89 Agri Science centres and several state and central agricultural universities, are already working in the state, but the pace of progress must accelerate. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of making India a developed country by 2047, the Chief Minister said, 'States must play their part. Uttar Pradesh must aim to become a USD 1 trillion economy, and we have set short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals accordingly.' He added that the state's Vision 2047 blueprint includes not just agriculture, but also improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and per capita income. He emphasized that public trust and participation will come only when short- and medium-term goals are also clearly articulated and achieved. The Chief Minister urged all state agricultural universities, research councils, and science centres to initiate concrete steps in research, development, and innovation aligned with the specific needs of the region. 'The time has come for Uttar Pradesh to lead the nation in agricultural advancement through science and strategy,' he said.

Pb clears amendments to land pooling policy
Chandigarh: The Punjab Cabinet on Tuesday approved amendments to its land pooling policy, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann slamming the opposition parties for allegedly spreading propaganda against the scheme. Mann countered the opposition's charge that the scheme would 'rob' farmers of their land and claimed that the farming community was 'liking' the policy. The Punjab Cabinet last month gave its nod to the land pooling policy and had then asserted that not even a single yard will be forcibly acquired from land owners. After chairing a Cabinet meeting here, Mann said the opposition parties' claim that there will be no land registry once the notification of a piece of land is issued was baseless. 'For example, if an urban estate is to be developed over 140 acres of land and which land owners of 15 acres do not give their land for it. Then it does not mean that farmers (owning 15 acres) cannot take a loan, or mortgage their land,' he said while speaking to reporters here. Mann said that until the urban development work starts over a piece of land, farmers who opt for the land pooling scheme can do farming activities. They will get Rs 50,000 per acre as compensation, he further said. After the government takes possession of the land, farmers will then get Rs one lakh per acre, he said. 'If it takes more than a year in land development, then farmers will get a 10 per cent increase every year in the (Rs 1 lakh) amount,' said Mann, while referring to amendments made in the policy following suggestions of farmers. Mann described the land pooling policy as a 'historic' policy of the AAP government and said it is a policy in which there is no injustice to farmers. 'Rather, they (farmers) are becoming partners (of the scheme). They are liking the policy,' he said. Under the land pooling policy, a land owner will be given a 1,000 square yards of residential plot and a 200 square yards of commercial plot in fully developed land in lieu of one acre of land, the state government had said earlier. Mann said if a farmer does not want 200 square yards of a commercial plot, then he will be given an additional 600 square yards in a residential plot, which will then become a total of 1,600 square yards. Chief Secretary K A P Sinha said Farmers will be able to get a loan against the letter of intent. 'Farmers will not face any financial loss,' said the chief minister.

Cash awards for Olympic winners hiked: Delhi govt approves free laptop scheme for students
New Delhi: The Delhi government has hiked the cash awards for Olympic and Paralympic medallists from the national capital, minister Ashish Sood said on Tuesday. Sood also announced the approval of the Mukhyamantri Digital Scheme to provide free laptops to meritorious students. The decisions were taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat here. 'Today, under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, a Cabinet meeting was held. Various important decisions were taken for Delhi's development, students and youth,' Sood told a press conference. 'There were historic decisions taken under the Mukhyamantri Khel Prothsahan Yojana. Olympic and Paralympic medal winners were awarded Rs 3 crore, Rs 2 crore and Rs 1 crore earlier... to encourage the sports ecosystem, Olympic gold medallists will now be given Rs 7 crore, silver medallists Rs 5 crore and bronze medallists Rs 3 crore,' he said.
