Vizag celebrates I-Day on a grand note

: Several educational institutions and government organisations celebrated the 79th Independence Day on a grand scale in Visakhapatnam on Friday. The celebrations were held at the GVMC office under the leadership of Visakhapatnam mayor P Srinivasa Rao, with the participation of deputy mayor Dalli Govindaraju, corporators, GVMC officials, staff, and GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg.
In his message, the mayor expressed gratitude to the sanitation workers, citizens, and officials who are tirelessly working for the development of Visakhapatnam. He appreciated the support of the NDA government in promoting Visakhapatnam as the financial capital of the state and in securing the railway zone.
He said that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is taking the initiative to transform Visakhapatnam into a clean, green, and healthy city.
He expressed hope that Visakhapatnam will continue to progress, with its citizens leading healthy and fulfilling lives. The mayor also presented the GVMC progress report during his address.
At the VMRDA office, metropolitan commissioner KS Viswanathan hoisted the national flag. He said that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is committed to the economic development of the state. He also praised the efforts of VMRDA staff, whose contributions have significantly enhanced the organisation's financial discipline and overall progress.
IIM Visakhapatnam director Prof M Chandrasekhar, in his speech, highlighted India's "robust" economic performance. He noted that the country is currently achieving a real GDP growth rate of 6.5%, driven by low inflation, buoyant capital markets, and strong export growth. In contrast, global benchmarks show China growing at 4.6%, the United States at 1.6%, and the world average at 2.4%, positioning India as a standout performer on the global stage.
He also pointed out that India's capital market remains a key engine of growth, commanding 30% of the global IPO market share. Foreign direct investment inflows have reached $81 billion, forex reserves stand at $700 billion, and exports have touched $825 billion. He further highlighted the rise of 'sunrise sectors' in which India is making remarkable global strides.

Dhar (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 17 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav offered prayers at Amka Jhamka Temple located in Sardarpur Tehsil, Dhar district, on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami on Saturday and also participated in a program organised here to mark the occasion. The temple, associated with the Dwapar Yuga, is believed to be connected with Lord Shri Krishna and the episode of 'Rukmini Haran'. CM Yadav also shared that the temple will be developed as a pilgrimage site, and preparations for the same are underway. 'The way Lord Krishna and Lord Balram created a new history here with their ability and talent, we are making it lively like the pilgrimage sites of Dwarika, Mathura, Gokul and Vrindavan. We have come here for Janmashtami, and we all have a great devotion towards Lord Krishna. In the coming days, this will become a pilgrimage site under the Shree Krishna Pathey and preparations for it are underway. My heartfelt congratulations to everyone on the occasion of Janmashtami," CM Yadav told reporters. Earlier in the day, CM Yadav also participated in Shri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations held at CM House in Bhopal and prayed for the welfare of the people of the state.'On the auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, I prayed for the welfare of the people of the state by worshipping according to rituals in the festival organised at the CM's residence on the occasion. Cultural programs have been organised at about 162 places across the state. It is our resolve that we will develop all the places associated with Lord Krishna as pilgrimage sites in the state," the CM said in a post on X. Janmashtami is celebrated as the day when Lord Krishna was born. Lord Krishna's birthday falls on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapad. Although the celebration takes place in different parts of the country, Mathura and Vrindavan hold a special significance. One being his birthplace, and one where he spent his childhood and did his baal leela. At midnight, a special ritual is performed when the idol of Lord Krishna is bathed in milk, yoghurt, honey, ghee, and water.
