THEY were both notorious hellraisers with prickly reputations in their 20s as they embraced rock 'n' roll debauchery.
But, now in middle age and their reputations as great songwriters secured, Oasis's Noel Gallagher and The Libertines' Pete Doherty are ego-free, according to Ocean Colour Scene's Steve Cradock.

Guitarist Cradock, 55, who has also played with Paul Weller since the early 90s, is pals with both musicians and lifted the lid on what they're really like behind the headlines.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun from his home ahead of the band's performance at Godiva Festival, he said: " He [Noel] plays guitar on a track on Find El Dorado actually - Paul's covers album - so I saw him there. We text occasionally. It's lovely. I love Noel. He's an incredible writer. I can't say that enough, he's fantastic."
Cradock will be heading to see Oasis this summer with his sons, Sunny and Cass, and feels like the newly-reformed group "deserve to be the biggest band in the world again".
Even though Ocean Colour Scene knocked Oasis's Be Here Now off the top of the UK album chart in 1997 with their third album Marchin' Already, Cradock acknowledges his band didn't have the same cultural impact as the Gallagher brothers.
"Oasis changed the whole country," says Cradock. "The Beatles did that. I think maybe The Jam did that. Maybe the two-tone label did that. Maybe Arctic Monkeys had done that. We're just a group from Birmingham who were around at that time.
"Oasis changed the way people dressed and they had such incredible characters, you know, Noel and Liam. Liam was just a one-off and they broke the f**king mold, I think. And, you know, good on them."
Meanwhile Doherty, who now lives a quiet life in a small French seaside town with his wife Katia de Vidas and their daughter Billie Mae, two, recently joined Ocean Colour Scene on stage to sing backing vocals.
"He's always lovely, Pete Doherty," says Cradock. "I like him a lot and he seems to be a fan of the group and always has been apparently.
"He's just lovely, and I'm pleased he's managed to get himself straight, you know.
"It's the people who are no good who end up being c**ts to me because they have to be, don't they? They've got to have it. I don't know, I don't want to get into psychology or anything but most people I meet are really lovely people, really nice."
Noel Gallagher looks stony-faced as he makes lonely Tube journey to Oasis rehearsals – but Liam's entrance is chaotic
Though he was immersed in the raucous Britpop scene that preceded Doherty's rise to indie stardom in the early noughties, Cradock managed to come through the wild parties relatively unscathed.
He admits he was never on "Pete's level" but says "the 90s were very hedonistic so we've all had our moments. But that sort of bullsh*t, when you see people who pass through all that rock and roll death, it's all just bullsh*t man."
When asked if the pair have big egos, Cradock delivered an emphatic no, saying: "No I don't think there is. Most people are really lovely."
Classic rock fans can also breathe a sigh of relief that Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant is another music hero with no airs or graces.
The Whole Lotta Love singer features on Weller's upcoming album and Cradock says he turned up ready and willing to work like a regular session musician.
"He was prepared for it, like a working musician, not a rock god," he says.
"He was humbling and he played some beautiful harp. Then we asked if he would sing and he sang and it was just like, 'wow'."
Mod fan Cradock rejoiced in hearing Plant's tales from his days before superstardom, particularly how he played a role in a notorious battle between two subcultures on the south coast.

"He told me he left the Black Country in '64 on his hand-painted Lambretta, went down to Hastings and got involved in the mods and rockers fight and then drove back on his Lambretta.
"It blew my mind the fact that you've got this sort of rock icon who was originally a mod fighting the rockers.
"He was a gentleman and he's a great singer and he's really tuned in to what's happening in that moment you know, a true professional, a G. He's a f***ing G."
Music fans can hear Plant do his thing when the record is released on July 25.

Could Pep Guardiola's 'imminent' divorce 'hurt Man City'? Sources close to legendary boss say there is 'more urgency' to finalise split as start of season approaches

Pep Guardiola and his wife are set to divorce imminently, as fears grow that their split could hurt Manchester City. The details of the Spanish football manager's divorce from wife Cristina Serra are expected to be finalised within weeks and made official as early as next month, The Sun reports. The couple had hoped to keep their separation on friendly terms, but there is now 'more urgency' as their relationship seems to have deteriorated, sources said. Pep's relationship from estranged wife Cristina has reportedly moved from 'friendly to cordial' amid 'complicated negotiations'. Spanish journalists Laura Fa, who broke the story of their split said: 'The signing of this divorce is going to be imminent. Evidently their relationship sentimentally has come to an end.' And there are now fears his marriage troubles could overshadow the start of the new season, sources say. Daily Mail has approached Manchester City for comment. Pep, 54, and Cristina, 52, have been together for 30 years and got married in 2014. Cristina, who runs a fashion business, struggled to settle in Manchester and moved back to Spain five years ago. The couple reportedly agreed to go their separate ways in December shortly after he signed a new contract with the football club, with sources claiming that it was the last straw for Cristina. The estranged couple even hired the same lawyer to avoid a messy divorce. They both attended an Oasis concert in Heaton Park last month with their two children Maria, 24, and Marius, 22, but were not pictured together. The Manchester City's boss marriage troubles, which were first reported in January, also come during his worst slump as the club's manager. Pep has already said he will leave the club in 2027 after his contract runs out to 'focus on myself'. It was claimed back in April that the couple had been trying to give their marriage a second chance after Pep and his fashion entrepreneur wife spent three days together at their former Barcelona marital home over Easter. It was the second time since news of their shock split became public in January that the former Barcelona footballer had travelled to the Catalan capital and spent time with Cristina. Barcelona-based newspaper El Nacional said after the second reunion they were prepared to 'give each another chance' and claimed 'all was not lost in their marriage.' But the journalists who broke the story of their shock split have shot down the chances of a fresh start for Pep and Cristina after their decision to call time on their 30-year relationship. Lorena Vasquez, one of a duo of well-respected Spanish showbiz reporters who call themselves the Mamarazzis, went on a Spanish TV show in February to say they had launched divorce proceedings which were 'amicable' because they were using the same lawyer. She also linked the split again to the Man City manager's unexpected decision last November to renew his contract with the Premier League club until 2027.

Oasis in 'negotiations' to add more tour dates after hugely successful UK shows

Oasis are said to be in "negotiations" to add an extra date to their hugely successful Live '25 tour, which has seen the band perform a string of shows across the UK As the Oasis dates across the UK are coming to an end, there is a possibility that more may be added. Noel and Liam Gallagher have been entertaining fans across Cardiff, Manchester, and now London with their euphoric Oasis Live '25 tour, 16 years after the band split. ‌ The tour was announced last year, almost 15 years to the date of their split, and a move that fans never believed would happen due to the tensions between Liam, 52, and Noel, 58. Ever since Noel walked away, the two siblings have hurled insults at one another across social media and in interviews. ‌ But now, those days are firmly in the past with the two brothers walking out on stage each night holding hands, as though there had never been any bad blood. Currently, the band has two more shows at Wembley Stadium before heading to Edinburgh and then over to Dublin to kick off the global leg of the tour, before heading back to Wembley in September. It comes after Cruz Beckham 'steals' his dad's tiny white trunks and family have epic response. ‌ One place that isn't on the tour dates, though, is Italy. But this could all change in the coming weeks. The Rome City Councillor for Major Events has suggested that there are currently talks to have the band perform in the capital city, Rome. Alessandro Onorato said: "Oasis in the capital? These are live shows for companies that organise events all over the world, and the financial aspect is crucial. Negotiations are underway." He went on to tell Radio Sei that in the past, Rome had missed out on huge opportunities. ‌ He explained: "Organising a large event in Rome is very complicated; in the past, Rome has been the 'city of missed opportunities.'" It's not the first time that Onorato has been vocal about wanting Liam and Noel to perform in the capital. In September last year, days after the reunion was announced, he said: "In 2026, Oasis could take their tour to Europe. And yes, we've applied to host them in Rome." Oasis: What's Their Story? An unofficial celebration magazine on sale now! A few simple words on social media on August 27 in 2024 were enough to spark pandemonium among Oasis fans and were the catalyst for the most eagerly awaited UK gigs of all time. This special unofficial magazine, available to order here, marks the reunion and honours the band both now and down the years with our incredible archive of photos and interviews - and with exclusive reviews and photographs of their first show! ‌ The last time Noel and Liam stepped out on stage together in Italy was in 2009, months before they confirmed their split. They played a string of indoor arenas but due to the level of demand for the reunion, it could see any possible shows taking place at the Stadio Olimpico or San Siro. But, in the past, Oasis' manager, Alec McKinlay has said that the current dates are the only ones that the band will be performing. He said in May: "This is very much the last time around, as Noel's made clear in the press. It's a chance for fans who haven't seen the band to see them, or at least for some of them to. "No, there's no plans for any new music." But Liam later hit out at the comments, saying that they came from "the accountant". Replying to a fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, he fumed: "Neither do I and the only people that will be making any kind of decisions on the future of OASIS will be ME n RKID [Noel] so let's just take it one day at a time." Meanwhile, unconfirmed dates have started floating around social media, with rumours suggesting the band will be performing in Madrid, Frankfurt, Budapest, Stockholm and Paris – as well as four dates at Knebworth. The band have previously confirmed though that there will be no performances at Knebworth.

Boozy Oasis fans smash Wembley Stadium record with staggering amount of pints

Oasis fans are making history at Wembley once again – but this time, it's not about record-breaking ticket sales; it's about pints. According to new figures released by Delaware North, the company behind Wembley Stadium's catering operations, Oasis fans have set a new stadium record by guzzling more than a quarter of a million pints of beer per night during the band's current run of shows. That's not a typo, that's 250,000 pints being poured every evening the Gallagher brothers take the stage in London and put on a show many called 'a spiritual experience.' With three out of seven scheduled Wembley gigs completed, and two more lined up this weekend (Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3), the numbers are already staggering, and the final two dates in September are poised to push the total even higher. To put it in perspective: Coldplay fans bought an average of 120,000 pints per show during their 2024 run at the stadium and Taylor Swift's Eras Tour dates sold a comparatively modest 40,000 pints per night. Oasis fans? They've doubled Coldplay's numbers and outpaced Swifties by more than sixfold. With pint prices at Wembley clocking in at £8.20, that translates to £2.05 million in beer sales every night. With approximately 80,000 attendees per gig, the average is just over three pints per person. But with many fans opting for wine, soft drinks, or abstaining altogether, the actual beer drinkers are likely knocking back far more. The logistics behind the scenes are no less intense. Each Oasis show reportedly requires around 4,500 kegs to be moved in and out of the stadium, prompting what The Caterer described as a 'turf war' behind the scenes. With cold storage space running low, catering staff have reportedly resorted to stashing beer kegs in cupboards, under escalators, and in any available nook, a frustrating factor for the cleaning and maintenance teams. More Trending Even the pubs surrounding Wembley have seen a surge in sales as fans flock to them before and after the shows. While some might raise concerns about excessive drinking at concerts, for others, the numbers are a testament to the unique social energy that Oasis continues to command, with old friends reuniting and reliving their rowdy youth. After all, this is a band whose lyrics famously toast Cigarettes & Alcohol — and whose fans now seem determined to toast right back. Got a story?
