Telangana high court seeks action plans on Kaleshwaram safety
Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Tuesday issued key directions to the state govt on three separate public interest litigations concerning public safety, welfare, and infrastructure. A bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin directed the state to submit, within two weeks, details of measures being taken to safeguard the Kaleshwaram irrigation project and protect people from potential flood-related disasters during the ongoing monsoon. The bench was hearing a 2020 PIL filed by Cheruku Sudhakar and another petitioner, initially focused on remedial measures under the Disaster Management Act during the heavy rains and floods of that year. Counsel Chikkudu Prabhakar recently filed a memo seeking similar safeguards for Kaleshwaram, citing the National Dam Safety Authority's report and earlier court directives. The petitioners expressed concern that low-lying areas downstream face imminent risk. The case will be reviewed on Aug 28. The bench fixed Sept 3 to review the compliance status. OGH relocation dispute The high court also asked the state govt to file a detailed report on its decision to relocate Osmania General Hospital (OGH) to Goshamahal Stadium. The petition, filed by local resident G Ramu, contended that the stadium land is reserved for sports and cannot be repurposed. Counsel argued that GO 45, transferring the land to the medical and health department, was issued without considering public objections. Advocate general A Sudarshan Reddy informed the court that the transfer process was complete and a nearby govt school had been relocated to accommodate the move. The bench granted one week to file a counter affidavit and posted the matter to Sept 26, directing that the report be submitted before that date. How a vaccine for kids could help slow the spread of a sexually-transmitted disease
How a vaccine for kids could help slow the spread of a sexually-transmitted disease Team TOI Plus TNN Updated: Aug 12, 2025, 18:11 IST IST Despite there being no licensed vaccine for the prevention of gonorrhea, the United Kingdom has become the first to give another vaccine to try and slow the disease's worrying spread. Gonorrhea has been known by many names over the centuries and in English was referred to as 'the clap'. However, despite the bacterial disease being treatable by antibiotics, a rise in the number of cases and drug-resistant variants, has prompted the use of a vaccine originally created for children to try to slow the spread of the disease. The UK has become the first nation in the world to roll out a vaccination programme against the disease. The vaccination programme is intended to prevent the spread of the disease - which has seen a worrying rise - in the hope of reducing pressure on healthcare services.
