Two mango godowns locked and sealed near Rajapalayam
A mango godown at Mamsapuram in Virudhunagar district, which was found operating without Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence, was locked by Food Safety officials on Thursday.
Another godown was sealed as the owner was not present to open it for inspection.
A team of officials led by Virudhunagar District Food Safety Designated Officer S. Mariappan conducted inspection at the two godowns on Rajamani Nadar Street.
The officials, including Food Safety Officer Veeramuthu and from the Labour Welfare Department, found that one of the godowns did not possess FSSAI licence. Besides, the godown had not used ethylene gas chamber, the permitted procedure for artificial ripening of mangoes. Instead, it was directly sprayed on the mangoes, which was against the established procedure for artificial ripening.
The officials seized 890 kg of mangoes and samples were taken for analysis in the laboratory. Since the godown did not have licence, it was locked and the officials began an inquiry into the issue. Based on the outcome of the laboratory test, further action would be taken.
When the officials went to the other godown, the owner did not turn up to facilitate inspection. The godown was sealed under the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Rules 2011. The order of closure was pasted on its door. After the godown owner appeared before the officials, it would be opened for inspection and samples would be lifted from the premises and further order would be issued to reopen it.
Traders can use ethylene gas chambers to artificially ripen the mangoes or use ethylene cylinders for the purpose.
A statement said traders involved in food business such as vegetables, fruits, mango godowns and temporary eateries should get licence/registration certificate under Food Safety and Standard Rules 2011 through https://foscos.fssai.gov.in
Units operating without the license would be closed and cases would be booked under the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. People can lodge complaints against quality of food over 94440-42322, State WhatsApp complaint number or over https://foodsafety.tn.gov.in or using TN Food Safety app.

A man was arrested, and over 870 kilograms of adulterated ginger-garlic paste was seized during a raid at an illegal ginger-garlic paste manufacturing unit operating under the name FK Food Product in Patel Nagar, Bandlaguda on Tuesday (June 3). The accused was identified as Mohammed Faisal, 44, a resident of Patel Nagar, who was involved in the illicit preparation and sale of chemically adulterated ginger-garlic paste to general stores as well as directly to customers in the area. Officials found that Faisal was operating the unit from his residence, manufacturing the paste using harmful additives such as Titanium Dioxide and Mono Citrate, which are banned in food production under the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The operation, carried out by the South-East Zone Task Force team and Bandlaguda Police, also led to the seizure of four kilograms of Titanium Dioxide, 16 kilograms of Mono Citrate, and four kilograms of turmeric powder used to enhance the colour of the product, all worth ₹1.4 lakh. Further investigation is underway.

Food Safety Raids: 8,000 Cold Drink Bottles In UP, Ghee Worth Rs 23 Lakh Confiscated In Gujarat
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is currently conducting investigations and food safety raids in multiple food outlets across cities. These inspections are necessary to check that food businesses are adhering to the strict quality and hygiene standards of the food they are serving to customers. In an Instagram post shared by FSSAI on May 31, 2025, the authority shared that the Food Security Department conducted a raid at an unlicensed cold drink factory in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Nearly 8,000 bottles and products worth Rs 1.07 lakh were seized from Nawada Mohalla. The warehouse was sealed, and the sample was sent to Lucknow for investigation. Maharashtra FDA books Mumbai-based firm for reselling expired food products after repackaging
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently initiated legal proceedings against a Mumbai-based firm, Khushi Trading, for allegedly repackaging expired food products and reselling them in the market. The firm in Ghatkopar has also been accused of operating without a valid food safety licence and violating prior stop-business orders. According to FDA officials, the crackdown was conducted following inputs from Minister of State for FDA Yogesh Kadam and under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (Food) Mangesh Mane. An official said a surprise inspection on May 22 at the firm's premises in Cozmongie Estate, Ghatkopar (West), uncovered serious lapses, including the absence of an FSSAI licence, unhygienic storage conditions, and evidence of procurement of expired and near-expiry goods from retail giant D-Mart, which were allegedly being repackaged for fresh sale. 'This poses a direct threat to public health… The firm was found flouting multiple provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including hygiene norms laid out in Schedule 4,' said a senior FDA official. Despite being issued a stop-business order by Food Safety Officer Abhinandan Randive on May 22, a follow-up inspection on May 29, conducted along with Assistant Commissioner (Food) Anupamaa Balasaheb Patil, revealed that the firm had resumed operations without permission, in violation of regulatory directives. Following this, an FIR was registered at the Ghatkopar police station under Section 223 (disobedience of lawful orders) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 55 (penalties for failing to comply with the food safety officer's directions) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. FDA officials have confirmed that an internal investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of D-Mart's involvement, particularly branches in Navi Mumbai and Bhiwandi, from where Khushi Trading allegedly sourced expired stock. D-Mart's comment is awaited on the matter. The FDA has reiterated its warning to all food business operators to adhere to food safety laws strictly and stated that failure to do so will result in stringent legal action. The FDA recently also suspended the food business license of Kiranakart Technologies, the parent company of the quick-commerce platform Zepto, following an inspection that revealed unhygienic storage practices for food items at its Dharavi facility in Mumbai.
