State in top three for Q1 capex surge
According to a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, Gujarat led with 65 per cent growth, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 42 per cent.
Sixteen states posted year-on-year gains in Q1 capex.
Madhya Pradesh has achieved an outstanding position so far, stated an official statement issued here on Tuesday. The Centre and states have together accelerated capex spending in the first quarter of FY 26.
The Central govt data on provisional capex between April to June 2025 show a growth of 52 percent at Rs 275132 crore.
The Centre has already utilised one fourth or 25 % of its budgeted capex of Rs.
11.2 lakh crore for the year in quarter first compared to just 16 percent utilised last year.
As the CAG data reveals, the details of 23 states have clocked aggregate capex of Rs 99478 crore in quarter first compared to Rs 81,494 crore in the same period last year representing 22 percent growth.
Madhya Pradesh has shown a remarkable annual growth, better than comparatively more prosperous states. In 2011-12 the per capita net state domestic product surged from Rs.

Consumer commission fines photographers for deficient wedding services
Koppal: The District Consumer Redressal Commission has ruled in favour of a couple who lodged a complaint against photographers for failing to provide promised wedding services. The commission has ordered the photographers to pay compensation and costs for the deficient service. According to consumer complaint No. 72/2024, Lekhana and Arpan from Koppal, hired Roshan Christopher and Emmanuel of Wedhoods Woollex, BTM Layout, Bengaluru, to provide photography and videography services for their pre-and post-wedding ceremonies. A contract was signed for Rs 1.2 lakh to cover the wedding ceremonies in Sakleshpur and Chikkamagaluru from Nov 28 to Nov 30, 2022, with Rs 1 lakh paid through UPI transactions. However, the couple later approached the consumer commission, alleging that the services provided by the company failed to meet the agreed terms. The commission, chaired by GE Saubhagyalakshmi and member Raju N Maitri, directed the photographers to pay Rs 25,000 as compensation to the complainants, along with interest at 6% per annum from the date of the complaint until the amount was paid. Lai is the outspoken founder of the now-closed Apple Daily which is a strong pro-democratic newspaper known for its sharp criticism of China's Communist Party which was later forced to shut down, as reported by CNN. He had spent more than 1600 days in a maximum-security prison, much of it in solitary confinement. Lai is accused of working with foreign forces, a crime under Beijing's 2020 national security law that can lead to life in prison and a separate sedition charge. He has not pleaded guilty to all charges. On Thursday, a Hong Kong court was set to begin closing arguments, but proceedings were delayed due to severe weather. The hearings, expected to span several days, will pave the way for a verdict that could test Trump's ability and willingness to deliver on his October 2024 campaign promise to '100%' secure Lai's release. Comunidades to ask guv to deny nod to bill regularising structures
Panaji: Comunidades across Goa came together on Thursday to launch a concerted campaign to oppose the new bill brought in to regularise unauthorised structures on comunidade lands in the state. The comunidades decided to meet the Goa governor to request that he deny his assent to the bill. 'The bill allows govt to legalise structures on comunidade lands without the approval of the comunidades concerned. All comunidades will hold a meeting before Aug 24 and pass a resolution opposing this new bill,' said Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, leading the group. He said, 'A programme called Monsoon Fellowship will also be held to raise awareness about the rights of comunidades.' Members of comunidades from across Goa convened a meeting in Panaji on Thursday to discuss their next course of action against the bill. Groups of comunidades have already been staging protests across the state against the bill over the past few weeks. 'It is detrimental to the integrity of comunidade land ownership and violates our traditional rights,' Viegas said. If govt regularises constructions on such lands, the name of the person behind the smaller illegal construction will be entered on Forms 1 & 14. So, in the future, the comunidade will be at the mercy of such an encroacher when carrying out any work related to that parcel of land, the protesting group said.
