'He has all the right qualities' - Romero replaces Son as Spurs captain
Son, who had worn the armband for the last two seasons and lifted the Europa League in May as Spurs ended their 17-year wait for a trophy, joined LAFC earlier this month.
Romero had acted as vice-captain for the previous two years and started the Europa League final win over Manchester United as skipper before Son came off the bench in the second half.

The 27-year-old Argentine will lead his side out when Tottenham take on European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup on Wednesday.
'I had a good conversation with Cuti Romero and he's going to be our captain,' new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank told the official club website.
'He was very honoured and very happy about it. It's a big thing and should be to lead this wonderful club out on the pitch, not just for this Super Cup, but also throughout the season.
'I think he has all the right qualities. He leads from his behaviour on the pitch, driving the team forward in every way and outside the pitch he's always pushing the team.'
Romero, who joined Spurs from Atalanta four years ago, was part of the Argentina side that won the 2022 World Cup.

Stephen Bradley is convinced that Josh Honohan deserves a place in Heimir Hallgrímsson's Ireland squad when it is named later this month for the September World Cup qualifiers. And he's not just saying that because Honohan, in front of Heimir Hallgrímsson on Thursday night, scored a screamer in Shamrock Rovers' 4-0 Europa Conference League win over Ballkani of Kosovo. It was thanks in a large part to his European performances last year that Honohan caught the eye of the Ireland boss. He wasn't capped in the June window, and was carrying a knock ahead of the Luxembourg game, but Bradley believes he deserves a regular spot in Hallgrímsson's plans. 'I've said from day one (that Honohan should be in the squad). It's not a reaction to the goal; over two legs he was our best player by a mile,' said the Rovers boss. 'I think tonight he shows why Josh can play at an elite level, I feel. There's no doubt in my mind. 'He's six foot, lightning quick, both footed, good quality off both sides, defensively good…I can keep going. Josh is an elite level player and tonight he was brilliant.' Ballkani did their best to stifle Honohan by overloading Rovers' left-hand-side - but that just meant there was more space for Rovers to attack them in other areas. 'They changed their whole system, their team to try and stop Josh,' said Bradley. 'They gave up their midfield and played three defenders… well, not out-and-out defenders, players that would have played there a lot, and all on Josh's side to try and combat that side. 'And we knew that. But what that did was unbalance them elsewhere. And then they freed him up in the second-half and he got joy out of that. 'But they definitely looked to stop Josh. Looking at last week, they would have said he was our threat, so they tried to stop him. But we were levels above and he was brilliant.' 'We fancy our chances against anyone here (in Tallaght),' insisted Bradley, 'but the key is taking it here. 'We'll have to go over there, obviously and perform a lot better than we did last week (in Kosovo). We won't get away with that again. But if we take it back here, game on. 'We've seen throughout the years, especially last year in the campaign, we're a match for anybody here. When we get a right, and we get that energy off the crowd, it's very hard to beat us here.' Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers' upcoming game against Shelbourne, scheduled for the weekend of August 22, has been postponed on account of both teams being involved in the play-offs. Rovers' Euro goal hero took PAY-CUT to extend spell with League of Ireland side
Stephen Bradley has paid tribute to evergreen striker Rory Gaffney after the 35-year-old's latest heroics - and revealed that he took a pay-cut to prolong his stay at Tallaght Stadium. Gaffney took his tally for the season to 12 with a classy brace in Thursday's Europa Conference League demolition of Kosovan side Ballkani. He scored either side of half-time in a 4-0 win, which wiped out Ballkani's 1-0 first-leg advantage. Gaffney struggled for game-time last year, playing only eight games in the Premier Division and missing out on the European league phase campaign with achilles and ankle injuries. Bradley admitted that he had doubts about whether the Galwayman would be able for another campaign with the League of Ireland giants. However, he was convinced by the striker to offer him a new deal, with Gaffney giving some assurances and concessions in the process. 'You always have doubts,' said Bradley after the veteran's outstanding display on Thursday night. 'When you're hitting your mid-30s and you have the injuries he's had, of course there's a little bit of doubt thinking. 'But I also know Rory, I trust him and the conversations are very honest. 'I'm willing to come back, I'm willing to take a pay cut. If I'm injured, I'll walk away'. 'There's always that bit of doubt, there has to be at his age. But Rory is so matter-of-fact. If he tells you something, you believe him. 'And he's not saying it just to bullshit you. He wouldn't do that. He's not that type. When he was talking to me, he was telling me the truth.' Bradley added that Gaffney could have walked away from Rovers, with two clubs offering him the security of two-year deals. When it was put to the Rovers boss that few players would agree to a pay-cut, he said: 'No, not many. I think that probably sums up the career he's had. 'I said he could have walked away and had them two contracts, two-year deals and been comfortable. 'But he wants to....(he's said) 'I want to win things. I want to taste Europe. I want to win the league. I want to win the cup. I want to win things. I'm nearly there and when I'm finished, I want to finish winning things'. 'You have to admire that. The other job will be negotiating for him next year!' Bradley described Gaffney on Thursday night as 'unplayable' - as the former Mervue, Limerick, Cambridge United, Bristol Rovers, Salford City and Walsall man tormented the Ballkani defence. He even had a pop back at Arber Potoku after he scored his first, in retaliation for the defender's reaction to a block on an earlier Gaffney shot. 'He's so cut throat, Rory,' said Bradley. BESIKTAS ADVANCED against St Patrick's Athletic after suffering a scare in their Uefa Conference League third round qualifier in Istanbul tonight. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side eventually won 3-2 on the night and 7-3 on aggregate, but it was a less-than-straightforward progression. After winning the first leg 4-1 in Dublin, the Turkish side might have been expecting another routine victory this evening. But first-half goals from Conor Carty and Ryan McLaughlin made it 2-0 to the Saints on the night and 4-3 on aggregate, as the Irish side threatened an unlikely comeback. Former Bolton youngster Carty opened the scoring with a penalty in the third minute.
